Meyer releases statement:
How is it that 1). He kept Smith on his staff in 2015 - and only fired him when the media found out about the abuse?!? And 2). He flat out lied last week to all the coaches and media, etc. at the Big Ten meetings?!?
Scumbag - this makes me furious!
They are going to say it was investigated and they found no DV and it was a a domestic dispute like married couples have - basically the same conclusion from the Florida incident.
They have everyone on board it is OSU+Meyer+Smith+Police vs Courtney
I don't doubt that is how it may play out. But any investigation would have to reach out to Courtney and others, correct? Are they going to say they tried to interview her and she refused?
Are you talking about the police investigation or the new OSU one?
No way their firing him after this letter. I just don't see it and I agree with whoever wrote a non conference games suspension, and a phat donation to charity and an apology.
Track record speaks for himself
2015 he said at B1G Media day he knew nothing about it, now he reported it . Right their is a mixed up lie. Which one is it. Ok SO OSU reported it . People are lying to cover their ass.
No way their gonna fire him. Cuz is Meyer goes, Smith goes, I don't see them firing him.
Can't Hire Tom Herman cuz he knew and was on that staff. So who you gonna hire ?
Stoops or Campbell or somebody else
No way their firing him, I just don't see it, yesterday yes, today no.
So you're saying there's no way they fire him, right?
The lie is less of an issue than continuing to employ (and repeatedly promote) the guy. It’s inconceivable for them to keep him, but then again MSU keeps two coaches who lie and protect abusers.
Have to believe that Urban is negotiating his severance right now at > $0 and < $40MM.
Zach Smith was never actually charged with anything, until like 2 months ago. That's how they'll justify keeping him employed for the last 3 years.
Because 2 close friends of Urban/OSU football pressured her not to press charges. OSU sweeps a lot under the rug.
This is Gene Smith being out and Urban Meyer staying.
Doesn't look good Gene Smith. Guess Urban's going to fire Gene after Tressell didn't.
I hope they keep Urban. Harbaugh can and will beat him, especially because nobody wants their kids to go to wife beater U.
I wish that were true but it's not because they think he can get them to the NFL/
LIES!!!
Putting pieces together.
Meyer knew in 2015. Reported it to someone. Someone decided not to fire Zach.
Simultaneously Zach goes on the radio and says he never hit her, only restrained her, and never told urban in 2015. Says gene called him to talk about the incident.
Meyer lied to media saying he didn’t know and would have fired Zach in 2015 if he did. Zach fired in 2018.
Still some holes to fill. If firing Zach wasn’t warranted in 2015 after investigation, why was it warranted in 2018 when this got exposed?
What about the photos - is this consistent with only restraining her? How long was this conversation between Courtney and Shelley going on? If there were several repeated incidents and police reports, how many were urbz and co aware of and how many did he report ?
lets say everyone is telling the truth and every incident went through protocol. Just 9 different times that someone determined - hey, little marital spat, police called, nobody hurt, no arrests, nothing to see here. In that unlikely scenario, what should OSU and Meyer have done? I guess it’s plausible to say they do nothing, although that still reeks of enablement.
I guess im saying that even though there was some garbage on everyone’s part, I still see a path where they get off the hook.
Then zach dies for wrongful termination hahahaha
At this point this seems most likely.
Meyer: I reported it.
Smith: We checked it out and decided it was not bad enough to fire him in 2015. He said she said, yada yada yada...
If it plays out that way then Meyer and Smith remain. But OSU has shown what it really is.
The one wild card: The new OSU Pres. seems like he is no Gordon Gee. He might have less tolerance for this stuff.
A 2nd Wild Card; in Columbus: Urban Meyer > OSU's President + Abe Lincoln + Jesus
Not sure you are correct. Gee knew Meyer was much bigger than him.
OSU Pres. Drake is much more serious dude than Gee was, and he might not tolerate an AD and FB coach that are in technical compliance with Title IX (assuming they are) but really are just putting the program over doing the right thing and getting rid of Smith years ago.
Drake may be the sort of guy that says 'not going to let OSU's brand be about finding reasons to tolerate spousal abuse from FB assistant coaches that are supposed to project an image of leadership.'
Not saying it will play out that way. But it might.
Meyer putting this up on his twitter page is already a direct challenge to the OSU Pres. Any U Pres. wants the message to me unified, controlled, and via official University channels.
Meyer just stuck one in Drake's eye by putting his own interests above those of OSU by posting on his twitter page. Not sure Drake will roll over the way a Gordon Gee did.
Not quite. Meyer has full control over who gets hired or fired on his staff.
I believe this to be the most accurate take.
Nice when you can employ of team of $1000 per hour "wordsmiths" to CYA and start the process of throwing Gene Smith under the bus. Kind of like the scene in Apollo 13 when Ed Harris tells the engineer "looks like you can keep your job" after the engine worked. "You betcha!"
Congratulations for admitting to something after getting caught red handed, Urbs. Now that we have it settled that you did know about "things" in 2015 can you please answer the question that was being asked of you at media days: Why did you fire Zach Smith only after his conduct became public knowledge? Oh, and one other question: How can anyone ever trust that you will tell the truth again?
Zach Smith was only charged with something in 2018. Before that there were no charges. That's exactly how they'll justify his employment.
Next question then should be do you know about your personal friends with connections deep into your program including Earl Bruce pressuring her not to press charges.
Sure, Urbz will lie, but the question needs to be asked.
I can field those for Urban:
1) because it would have looked bad.
2) you can't.
"My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading." Uh, that was exactly his intention. He flat out lied with the exact purpose being to be inaccurate and mislead. This stuff is exactly why I have always hated this guy. He is a complete slimeball. And no one has ever cared because if you win enough, it doesn't matter if you are a garbage human being.
Yes, the guy clearly lied about lying. He can't even own up to his lie like a mature adult that isn't a sociopath.
Bingo. He has to assume the average OSU fan has an IQ of 85 and the media will just let this go.
Somehow, I don’t see certain factions of the population just leaving this situation alone. “Urban knowingly hired and promoted a domestic abuser? Ok, nothing to see here.” This is #metoo time
Wow. Everyone has such a strong opinion about what's going to happen. I have no idea what to expect, but what I do know is that when someone goes into CYA mode, keeping their job isn't usually high on their list of options.
Fucking disgusting.
I really don't care what they say. We all knew he wasn't getting fired. Now let's get ready to kick the shit out of OSU in November, fuck em
And he shouldn't be fired. Lied to the media? Yes, but that is not a crime
Knowingly employing a serial abuser and being a mandated reporter as an employee of the university is the issue. He has stipulations in his contract to report these issues.
Lol. After this, Urban and his team and going to be on an absolute mission of destruction. A Hells Angels style gang rape of your Michigan Men football team will occur on 11/24/2018 in cbus. You heard it here first. Fuck yeah! Mother fuckers!
Well...you’re probably correct about some “gang rape”
All this shit happened in your house, a woman is abused (fact) and your response is to get fired up about a football game. You're actually psyched this happened.
I’d bet $100 this piece of trash is sitting in his trailer right now drinking Natty Lite thinking he’s cool for talking shit to some Michigan fans. How terrible is your life? It’s so comical that you had to make an Mgoblog account to defend your piece of shit coach Urban. Get a life you fuckin’ loser.
Lol I love that losers think Harbaugh is some saint. It is a long fall from that high horse
My dog doesn’t cover up his shit as much as Urban is trying to cover this up.
Looks like Brett McMurphy was anticipating this:
https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy
Let me get this straight: Urban Meyer, in a matter of seconds, can come up w/way to convert a 4th-&-1 in double OT to beat Michigan, yet he can not be "adequately” prepared to take questions at B1G Media Day
And
Zach Smith told @1057TheZone he never abused Courtney. Here is text message b/w Zach & Courtney when he admits & apologizes for strangling his wife on Punta Cana trip in March 2015 & again in April
Right - read the texts - what scum
That's a fair point that McMurphy is making, that goes directly and exclusively to Zach Smith's credibility.
Because unless Ohio State had those text messages, I don't see how it impacts Gene Smith or Urban Meyer. How would they know? And why would Courtney Smith share them with a reporter instead of OSU, if indeed she thinks that Zach's continued employment at OSU was a problem?
Now, if McMurphy wants to say, "You can't believe anything that Zach Smith says about this entire matter or the OSU football administration more broadly because he's an alcoholic and is lying about never having abused Courtney," be my guest. Somebody else is going to say, "You can't believe Courtney Smith because ... {fill in the blank; alcoholism, sensationalism, shopping a story, financial self-interest, crazy lady who called 911 on 66 occasions, who called the police when her husband delivered kids following her missing meeting time, multiple DUI stops, threatening visits to OSU practices, etc.}..."
Get real. Meyer knew everything. And he knew it back to 2009. Preposterous to think that the HC does not know everything going on with their staff, especially this sort of thing. His wife knew everything and she told him everything.
Did Meyer report it? He claims he did. Could be true.
But it seems obvious that he knew for many years and chose to keep him on staff UNTIL IT WENT PUBLIC.
All that crap on the wall at the Woody Hayes Center about respecting women is a lie. Just bullshit to convince recruits' mothers.
The main reason OSU should get rid of Meyer is that he knew of many incidents over many years and kept him UNTIL IT WENT PUBLIC. He's a fraud.
The only 2 things we all know for sure are that Zach Smith and Urban Meyer are both liars.
Let me get this straight: Urban Meyer, in a matter of seconds, can come up w/way to convert a 4th-&-1 in double OT to beat Michigan, yet he can not be "adequately” prepared to take questions at B1G Media Day
Hey, in Meyer's defense he never actually converted the 4th-&-1.
Is anything more obvious than that Urban has paid Smith to support him. Or threatened him mafia style.
Do you have some source or proof of this happening?
If course not but it sure doesn’t seem like Urban simply fires Smith. The actions from Smith indicate he had a “long talk” with Smith in the firing process.
And it begins .....
if he reported it, why is he on administrative leave?
