OT: Abuse Allegations at Ohio State now?

Submitted by CriticalFan on

In case the MSU story is too old and moldy, here's a new one:

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/07/jim-jordan-accused-of-ignoring-ohio-state-sexual-abuse-allegations.html

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a highly influential conservative and a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, has been accused by former Ohio State University wrestlers he coached in the 1980s and ‘90s of overlooking evidence and direct complaints of sexual abuse by the team doctor, [Richard Strauss, who died in 2005]

...

The university has also confirmed that Strauss has been accused of molesting former athletes in other sports programs, as well as former student patients.

This is an innappropriate topic to be influenced by sports fandom. If the mods can't crack down on individual posts, I hope it gets locked before someone says something dumb.

FWIW, this story has been around for several months. OSU opened an investigation into it back in April, IIRC.

Probably doesn't have legs for a number of reasons: 1) The alleged perp is dead, and has been for like 15 years. 2) It's not going to involve any high ranking University people because most, if not all, were not at the University 30 years ago.

At a certain people are going to realize this is a symptom of the culture around college athletics and not a problem at individual athletic departments.

These things can, and have occurred and been covered up at many large and small athletic departments, corporations, etc. Its a culture problem and until we address that this won't go away.

It's bigger than athletics. Predators go where they can get access and through some combination of people not wanting to assume the worst of people they know and being afraid of the repercussions, people tend to cover things up or not speak out far more often than most people would have guessed.

Given the way OSU operates, I will be shocked if anything consequential comes of this.

Congressman Jim Jordan, representing Ohio's 4th district since 2007 and apparently enabling pedophiles since '86 (when he was the asst wrestling coach at OSU)... Pedophiles are a scourge on society, but never underestimate the roll enablers play in most pedophile's actions

Wasn't going to make a separate thread for this, but did anyone see the additional charges and information on the U of M doctor that got charged?

https://amp.wnem.com/story/38562535/ex-u-of-michigan-doctor-charged-with-more-sex-crimes

Apparently he had sent inappropriate messages to a nine-year-old in 2004 or something and wasn't stripped of his license back then? He got sent to a boundaries class.

Who ever let that guy be a doctor a camp for kids with arthritis? It blows my mind.

This stuff is just everywhere.

For making this "go away," they'll elect him governor. At least Sparty and Penn State reckoned (to a greater or lesser degree) with the wrongdoing.

Like others have said, pedos have sought out these situations for all of human history. Priests, doctors, coaches, teachers, scout leaders and such. Jordan is accused of turning a blind eye and not reporting reports of abuse back in the late 1980s. Unfortunately, that’s how this stuff was handled by EVERYONE back then. Hush it up. Don’t discuss it. Stay away from the person. Cognitive dissonance. We had a math teacher at my high school. Late 1970s. Head of the department. There were rumors he invited young teenage boys to his house to trace their bodies on paper. Creepy stuff. While damn town and school knew about it. But it was hush hush. Don’t go there. Asked my brother about and he’s 10 years older than me. He heard the rumors too. Went on for another 10 years until I guess he tried something else with a boy who reported him to his parents and finally someone called the police. The guy was doing this stuff for probably 20 years until he was caught. It was wrong but it’s how society handled these and other predators like this math teacher, Cosby, Sandusky, Nassar, Weinstein etc.

Like some others have said we all live in glass house regardless of political party or favorite team/university.

Here is a key name from that article....

"But emails obtained by TheDCNF show that the inquires from Perkins Coie partner Markus Funk were sent to the inactive email address [email protected]."

For those that aren't aware, Perkins Coie lawyer Marc Elias hired the company that compiled a dossier with allegations about Donald Trump’s Russia connections. The law firm confirmed this back in 2017.

Elias hired the company, Fusion GPS, to assist in the law firm’s representation of the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The Clinton campaign and the DNC helped pay for the opposition research, the stories report.

Now, they are in middle of going after Jordan, who is a potential candidate to replace Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House.

Nothing to see here people....

This seems to be picking up more steam and due to its political nature I doubt it dies down.

Here is Mike DiSabato talking about the situation.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2018/07/04/ohio-state-wrestler-abuse-jim-jordan-disabato-baffling-sot-nr-vpx.cnn/video/playlists/jim-jordan/

What hits me is he has the same tone that Chris Spielman had when suing his alma mater about using his likeness.  They both said how shocked they were with the stonewalling OSU gave them over transparent grievances and how the university takes advantage of their athletes with little regard for them after they're no longer of use.  I mean, OSU is a master at controlling the narrative with their complicit press.  Look at the Schiano/Tennessee thing, the numerous assault scandals against women with Conley, Elliott, Webb, Hyde etc... I shudder to think about the skeletons in that closet.

“Mike DiSabato has a vendetta against Ohio State,” Jordan said. “He lost a licensing agreement with Ohio State. He is out to get Ohio State. He has a vendetta against our family. He was arrested just five months ago threatening Chris Spielman’s lawyer and Chris Spielman. He’s got all kinds of lawsuits against him.”
