Michigan’s success this year, plus the roster situation/need, plus the coaching situations at the other schools he’s considering, Michigan has a fair chance here.

Meyer admitted in his letter he knew. That’s no longer in question. His argument is that because he met his reporting  responsibilities, he should not be fired.

As Brian referenced: this is why nepotism is bad and there are (often) laws guarding against it. Meyer dealt with this as a personal or family issue (he said so himself at the media day) in disregard to his professional and institutional responsibility.

08/01/2018 - 1:03pm What compounds this is Meyer…

What compounds this is Meyer’s similar record of negligence at Florida, which he ran from and paid no price for. Great football coach, sure, but not at all an admirable person and someone of whom the most charitable read is that he’s not good at promoting a healthy and safe culture within his programs. But it’s also not unreasonable to conclude he simply doesn’t care.

He deserves a ton of credit for culture, stability, and talent upgrade

Has had some tough luck losses

Last season got away from him but if 8-5 is the floor then that’s in line with Bo and Lloyd

One thing about Bo and Lloyd is they were really good bounce back coaches. Hopefully JH’s offseason adjustments pay off.

In 25ish years of fandom, I’d rate this year’s preseason roster as probably a top five preseason roster

If you hadn’t included the picture of Eaton, I’d have imagined he looks exactly as he does. Credit to your prose, I guess. This is a fine example of engaged citizenship, which is something the University of Michigan taught me is important.

We could potentially see defensive fronts featuring a Scotsman and a German and an American or two in the next few years. Call it NATO (God save it)

07/02/2018 - 1:02am Those are promising remarks…

Those are promising remarks and often we see that being too (geographically) close to a recruit can work against a school, as the lure to leave the familiar for the new can be strong for some. He would be a huge get. Regardless it seems Washington has been a valuable addition and a nice hire by JH.

06/28/2018 - 2:05pm True but Spain and Germany…

True but Spain and Germany had both won the Euros before, so they had a pedigree that I don’t see from any side this year. Their domestic leagues had both also recently won Champions League titles.

06/28/2018 - 10:54am There’s no vintage side in…

There’s no vintage side in the World Cup as there has been in the prior two with Spain and Germany. In fact if any team comes close to hitting that golden generation cycle it’s Belgium. But there’s not a huge incentive to avoid any particular side. Priorities for the managers today will be avoiding injury and getting your depth/bench players a run. It will also factor that most of these players are Premier League players, many of them club teammates, so we’re likely to see a gentle match.

06/01/2018 - 5:39pm Beilein

is in the same mold as Steve Kerr and Brad Stevens, maybe even Pop. They each share demeanors and philosophies. There are many arguments against this move but saying Beilein wouldn’t be a very attractive NBA hire is not one. Now whether any coach can find success in Detroit in the short-term is highly questionable, and our best reason to not get too worked up over this interview. This feels to me like it’s Beilein kicking the tires, taking an NBA interview because it’s the pinnacle of his profession, but ultimately staying for what figures to be a third NCAA championship window at Michigan
