Joey Velazquez Commits to Michigan
Does this warrant the "commits come in seemingly endless waves" yet or do we need another? Uh, anyway:
Extremely blessed to say that I will be furthering my academic, football, and baseball career at THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN! 〽️ #GOBLUE pic.twitter.com/YoRs1oqh47

Velazquez is a 2019 safety sort who Michigan plans to play at viper, per Sam Webb, and was an Ohio State baseball commit. He evidently plans to play both sports at Michigan, which hasn't happened in quite a while.
As a football recruit, Velazquez is... nondescript, slotting in just inside the top 1000 on the composite and listing offers from Cincinnati and Indiana. But Khaleke Hudson wasn't even a consensus four star despite his rim-rattling dunk-tape; Michigan's requirements for viper often see them recruit guys the recruiting industry considers marginal tweeners.
More detail in a bit.
The last time Michigan got a commitment from a composite Top 100 or Top 247 player was August 5th, 2017 (Chris Hinton). Technically you could say Te'Cory Couch but he was on the commit list for barely a month.
Michigan is the new 3 Star U.

I know I have posted a lot about this kid but I LOVE this kid's game. He is going to be the next Khaleke Hudson.
His tape is the best Viper tape that I have seen since Khaleke - just absolutely tailor made for the position. I am not saying that he is better than Reese or Dixon, those guys are going to be fantastic Outside LBs, but this guy is the Viper that we have been looking for.
He must have assured the coaches he was going to play football even if he is drafted in the top 3 rounds of the MLB 2019 draft.
I honestly don't understand why someone would choose college football over getting drafted in the first three rounds in baseball. Just the long-term health consequences would be a huge weight on the side of sticking with baseball.
Ask Drew Henson about that. But seriously, just depends on what you love to do.
His baseball career didn't work out like he hoped, but he still made more money in those years than many people will make in their lifetime.
I was just kidding. But don't you think he would picked football if he could do it over again?
Pretty sure he made more money playing baseball than he did playing football.
Signed a 6 yr - $17MM contract with the Yanks in 2001
Signed for $3.5MM by Dallas is 2004.
So... Tell that to Drew Henson?
I was just kidding with the reference but don't you think Henson would have picked football if he could do it again? I get that he made a lot of money but he was a bust at the MLB level.
He would have been a top 3 pick in the 2002 draft and may have had a long career. Money is great and all but having a successful career doing what you love is even better.
Take the MLB money and avoid CTE.
How do you know that you would avoid CTE in baseball? People are throwing a hard ball at you at 95 mph. One direct hit to the head can be more damaging than an entire football career.
You do what you make the most money doing. This is a capitalist society. Welcome!
That is not how a capitalist works - you obviously didn't go into business or economics. This is Econ 101 - day 1 $hit.
Capitalism, in the labor sense, means that you do what provides the most value to you. For some people, it is whatever makes them the most money (I guess I am reluctantly in that crowd) and other people get more value out of creativity, vacation time, working from home, whatever that is for each individual.
You must be an art major.
PS I do have my grad degree from UofM... in business.
Enjoy your paintins!
Ummm, I have both a BBA and MBA from Ross and I own my own investment management firm. If you have F&cking degree from Ross, I need to thinking about handing my diplomas back in.
That is seriously scary $hit for me that you have the same degree that I do. You must have changed the grades in the computer system or something.
Dude, let's step back for a moment and be serious. I usually really like your football posts and I always defended you (except for politics) when I see someone attacking you or your posts. I have been doing that for a couple of years.
But seriously, what the hell is your problem today? You sound more like that @sshat incel Maizen than yourself from what I remember from your posting history.
Ha! I meant *Dudeness but my phone autocorrected back to just "Dude"
You don't like making money? Then why are you doing it?
I like making money- but my life is probably to heavily focused on work / my company and not enough on rest and relaxation.
Business has been really, really good but have been putting in 12 - 16 hour days for the mast couple of months.
I think there was a movie about Drew Henson starring Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. Something about Trouble With the Curve.
Well there are essentially twice as many NFL roster spots as MLB without anywhere near the international competiveness.
I like how he plays and he's a pretty good athlete, too. Below are the 40 times and broad jump he posted at OSU's camp. He's also 5134 tall!
I scrolled down and looked at the pic before reading your comment. Lol, that height caught my eye too. Not even sure what thats supposed to mean....oh those buckeyes....
5134 millimeters?
If so, that's Tacopants territory.
I'm sure he's fast but the 40 times that come out of OSU camps and Pro Days are complete horseshit. Last year they claimed to have something like 10 guys that ran sub 4.4 40's.
All hand-timed 40's are horseshit.
All time is a flat circle.
This is a joke right? Khaleke Hudson was a stud high school running back and was the PA Player of the year and MVP of the Semper Fi Bowl. He's athletically on another plane that Velazquez. Don't see anything special here at all.

Who was the highest rated player in Pennsylvania his senior year? Hint it wasn't Hudson.
Welcome Joey, way to GoBlue!
While Urban is out chasing stars on multiple fronts, he's letting the same thing happen that happened before Tressel took back that state. Bring Zach and the boys with ya Joey!
The difference between Cooper (time before Tressel) and Urban is that Urban is beating Michigan. There was nothing wrong with Cooper's recruiting. His coaching? LOL!
If you ask Tressel, he says that the first thing he did to change the course of the rivalry was to wall off Ohio from our recruiting. And that damn has held up nicely but, me thinks, a few holes have been poked; and holes in a damn, lead to floods.
You're not...you're not really suggesting this is a sign of Urban losing his recruiting touch in the state of Ohio, are you?
Nooo, but funny you mention......
hmmm...?
I'm confused. Because you're insinuating I'm a Buckeye fan?
You prefaced something saying you were a buckeye fan, so I took your word and insinuated it in my coy remark.
Of course, I don't care what team you're a fan of, I just find it interesting that you see that Urban and the recruiteyes might be out of touch with the state of Ohio.
Hmmmm.....I'll have to think about that one.
Urban is 6-0 against Michigan. He's probably having a good laugh at this one.
If you can't appreciate this kids tape while playing against some pretty high-level Ohio HS football teams, then I feel sorry for you.
Wish i could up vote you.
DeSales plays a very good schedule, and his tape was VERY encouraging. You cannot teach mentality. I'm looking forward reading/seeing clips about him on the news this fall.
It’s not that they can’t appreciate it, it’s that they’re too lazy to do their own digging and watch the kids tape and look into WHY he’s ranked where he is (scouts don’t know if he’ll even play football).
Instead they’d rather just take the recruiting rankings as if they’re 100% certain and nothing else matters.
Not to mention the flaws and pure laziness of the recruiting sites.
Which is, not to give Dantonio too much credit, but his complete recruiting strategy.
Give me competition and production over measurables and camp hero's every day. Take away the tape and Velazquez looks like a top 150 player.
Ratings*
1) Mgoblog posters are not talent evaluators, so any opinions they have mean zilch
2) All highlight tapes look "good". They are called highlight tapes for a reason. Go watch some of the kids committed to MAC schools. They all look good
3) This is a rough blow for the "look at his offers" crowd. Bowling Green and Holy Cross. Gross.
4) I watched his tape and was not impressed, at all. Very stiff, can't flip his hips, and can't really cover. He has good straight line speed though.
A. "Mgoblog posters are not talent evaluators, so any opinions they have mean zilch"
B. " I watched his tape and was not impressed, at all."
Correct.
Somehow that irony is going over his head
This one might even be better:
A. "Let's try not to be unnecessary assholes to commits on the very day they commit, eh?"
B. "Not going to spin this any way other than this is quite ridiculous. As if taking a commit from Missouri State's basketball class wasn't enough."
