What are you excited to watch this weekend? FB vs Iowa? MBB?
So we've got a nice weekend of sports (starting soon) with Michigan playing 2 more basketball games and tomorrow's 2nd to last FB game (aside from bowl) vs. Iowa. I know most of us would consider U-M primarily a football school. Instead of focusing about the seasons in general, for just THIS weekend, what are you more excited to watch?
Personally, I've felt that the past few football games have been frustrating, if not downright painful to watch (like the great diarist about all the 3rd downs, I watched the NW game on delay and accidentally was told that it went into OT, so that helped). I am also still coming off the high of the Final Four and generally feel that this BBall team has more upside right now. I'm more excited to watch hoops, which is not the norm. You?

You took the word right out of my mouth. Seriously, if it comes with a Block M in Maize and Blue, I'll probably watch it. I've spent enough hours watching v-ball, softball, gymnastics, wrestling, and soccer on BTN to back that up!

UMBB (and my brain also says, "it's not even close"), but here's the thing about UMFB... I HATE watching them this season. It's like slamming your head against the wall (1st down -1 run, 2nd down sack, 3rd down incomplete, PUNT, lather, rinse, repeat)... and yet, while I've walked away from the TV for long stretches of Nebraska/NU/Akron and Penn State... my heart is still always focused on UMFB.
Damn you, Borges.
I will say, UMBB is a really, really nice break. Particularly given that non-conference BB games aren't as crucial (i.e., a loss at ISU doesn't really matter), and I'm full-on expecting this team to have some kinks that it takes a few months to work through.

That's a good point. It's much easier to shrug off a loss now for the BBall team as the likely worst it would do is hurt seeding for the tournament, whereas any loss for the Fball team is devastating

Plus a Lions win, and 2 fantasy football wins.

Sigh...football. Always football.
Which is why the football team can drive me insane while the basketball team only annoys me from time to time.
Now ask me the same question in March and you probably get a slightly different answer.
And Browns - Steelers on Sunday!

Football. Always football. There are only 12 football Saturdays a year.
And, even though I don't think there's a chance they win Sunday...HERE WE GO BROWNES, HERE WE GO
Also, its must win time in Fantasy Football, so Help me Megatron, you're my only hope!

Oldest loved red wings hockey at 4 months. Red and white on the white ice, I guess. He's 13 now, no ADD, straight A's. I had never heard that before. Good thing i'm done having kids! I think I'd be a wreck!

We could be 0-9 right now and I'd still be amped up to watch Michigan play tomorrow. The basketball game tonight is just a bonus on my weekend Michigan sports watching experience.

I'm worried that college basketball is turning into an unwatchable product, at least early in the season. I'm not saying specifically Michigan, but it's getting old watching every matchup be decided by free throws and who is/isn't in foul trouble. I know this has been an issue in basketball beyond this year, but the new rules and over-emphasis on those rules this point in the season has made for an awful product.

Plus, taking breaks from work to see what I hope will be a comeback win over the 'Noles on the court in Puerto Rico . . . and maybe part of North Dakota and Boston University on NBC Sports Network tonight . . . The Season four finale of HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Homeland Season Three, Episode 9 on Sunday night. . . .And some of the weekend coverage of the 50th Anniversary of JFK's assassination to bring back memories of the blood, sweat and tears from high school wrestling practice during the late afternoon on November 22, 1963. (I suspect that I'm one of the few MGoBloggers who were alive on that day.)

Both, but college football is almost over for the year, so I guess football a little more. But it doesn't have to be an either/or.

Are you seriously writing off the hoops team because it lost one game?

I can't really say until I watch at least half the game. Specifically, I couldn't bear to watch at least the 4th quarter of MSU game. After the turnover, and we not only did nothing, but lost yardage, I lost heart. At least in the Northwestern game, they were in the game, which made it interesting. Once it is clear Michigan can't or won't win, it is hard to watch.
EDIT: I was just listening to the basketball game, and hung on every point . . . what a comeback. It isn't football or basketball, but the game itself that is either worth following (or not!)

I'm looking forward to getting up too early and driving 3.5 hrs to Iowa City to freeze for a few hours.
Can't text and drive or read MGOBLOG, I think my insurance has a crisis line I can talk to a councelor or something on the way to or on my back...maybe both.

Beilein and his staff are all GREAT college coaches (with no expert guidance from Brandon, lol). Even at Ames until the final second, you could see them making adjustments, changing line ups, encouraging/scolding players, etc . This and the fact that they have exciting playmakers makes me look forward to each and every hoops game. Tonights game and crowd was exciting and well executed against a very good FSU team .... Contrast this to football where aside from some defensive coaching under Brady and some offensive coaching under RichRod, we seem to be outcoached most weeks for many years. Every road game UM football plays is just painful to watch and we no longer play manball of the lines, the essence of big10 football...To further compound things our football coaches are very stubborn in schemes and the same personnel they use and quite frankly it is infuriating... I will be watching religiously from kickoff tomorrow but have little faith in this coaching staff to lead us to a win in Iowa City, or the following week... right now it is UM basketball > UM hockey > UM football.
