Borges has managed to score 1 touchdown in the last 18 quarters against MSU, Neb. and OSU. Only Michigan would allow this trainwreck to continue.

After that playcalling with 1st down at Nebraska's 26, I'm completely off the Al Borges train. Basically cost of us the game
November 9th, 2013 at 6:41 PM ^
Same here. I literally can't comprehend how he thought running power on 1st and 2nd down was the way to go there, given the complete lack of success all game long on the ground. It was like he wanted to set up 3rd and long. I am dumbfounded by that playcalling.

He HAD to get Green his 10 carries!!

Fire Borges now.

The play calls after we received a gift turnover in the red zone.
Stupid is the least offensive word I can use to describe it.

Because Borges is the least offensive coordinator in the country

Posted my thoughts in my errant diary post:
I've defended him a bit this year. He can't do much with the OL.
But the numbers don't lie. Lots of playmakers, good talent on the team--and garbage offense at key moments. It's not just (or even mostly) his plays. It's the philosophy of the entire team. Notice how lousy the 2-minute offense is.
He must be gone.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
Yeah. The philosophy just doesn't seem to, like, flow or make sense. Not for this team anyway; and this is the team we have, so do something that they can do.. The two-minute drive is a good e.g.. It had a few missed plays of course but it just didn't have the feel of being capable of doing what it needed.

That's overstating it. He should get to finish the season, no reason to fire him now.

November 9th, 2013 at 6:47 PM ^
It doesn't gain anything by firing him now, either. And while it gains little on the field this year, it will help its reputation with future OCs and with recruits down the line.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:13 PM ^
How in god's name does it help with anyone in the future? Seriously. He's confused the hell out of a Gardner who used to be able to improvise with some success. He continues to get Fitz in the game - who can't block his way out of a paperbag nor can he run forward with any velocity. His playcalling is so predictable that my 8 year old twins can predict the run plays or pass plays. So, once again, what's the point in keeping him around?
November 9th, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
Well that depends on who they would replace him with. If they can't get an interim OC with the same level of competency (hold the jokes), then yes, let him finish the season.

We can't do that unless we fire someone else. The NCAA limit is nine assistants.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:50 PM ^
I really don't get the point of having 2 LB coaches.
Maybe Freddy retires then we can move Manning to RB coach. That will open up a spot for a WB coach.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:55 PM ^
Does Manning know a lot about coaching tailbacks?
If we're going to shake things up, we need guys that are as good as possible at their positions. Realistically, the coordinator will end up also coaching a position group. That's normal.
November 9th, 2013 at 8:01 PM ^
He was the RB coach at Cinny and they led their league in rushing that year.

keep going back to plays that have no hope of working. Underutilizes skills players. We got beat by fucking Nebraska and their backup QBs.

Actually, I doubt that practice was that good this year. Punishing, heartbreaking loss to MSU? I'm worried about Hoke losing this team. And things are getting worse now. Wave bye-bye to the top recruits we're hoping for.

Imagine how bad it would have been if Nebraska was healthy and didn't make that bone headed muffed punt. They could have easily blown us out.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:40 PM ^
Borges is a loser and deserves to be fired. If Hoke is unwilling to fire him, then show Hoke the door too. The season is lost.

Akron, Uconn, Nebraska, 3 of the worst defenses in the country, all stifle us.
It's unbelievable how bad our offense is when we can't score more against one of the worst D's in the country than their backup qb and 3 backup OL can score against our defense. And why was our defense half backups?

How and why he continues to call plays that take longer than like 2-3 seconds to execute is beyond me. The entire offense should be quick passes, screens, and then play action off those quick plays. Have an assistant in practice hold an air horn and blow it after 3s. If you didn't get the play off, then its dead. Because another thing that's broken is the clock in Devin's head. A lot of those sacks are on him holding the ball too long. Just throw it out of bounds. Don't know if I've seen him throw it out of bounds intentionally all season.
And while the part about players not executing may be true, its on you as the coach to put them in a position that they CAN execute. And he's not doing that. At all.

Wyoming had 600+ yards and 30+ points against Nebraska. In Lincoln. Perspective.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:13 PM ^
Southern Miss had 282 yards of offense and 13 points against a healthy version of this defense, in Nebraska. And 60 yards of rushing, including sacks.
You know. More perspective.
