Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be this evening's thread to discuss issues with the coaching and any issues you may have with the staff in general.

Do we have to hear, "they did some stuff that surprised us". WHAT!?! Do they really think this is a viable excuse???? This is a bad team with bad leadership. Hate to say it. MSU is way beyond what Michigan could hope to be right now. Big brother is old and fat and little brother took it to him and showed him where to stick it.

The drive before halftime was frustrating (especially after it began with a near-interception), but that really was about the only bad defensive possession for three quarters.  The D did wear down in the fourth, which was discouraging, but the offense did it no favors.

I'll grant that we didn't look like the dominant defense we were hoping for before the season, but that's been true all year.

So I did a quick look into Coach Funk's stats and I'm not sure what to think. His longest tenure as an OL coach was at Colorado State. His teams averaged from 2.7-5 yards per carry. They only had 1 year with 5 ypc and most years were in the mid 3ypc range. He was at Ball State for 1 year and produced 5ypc and the two years at SDSU were 3 and 5 ypc respectively. Once again I'm not sure what to think here but I feel like his history is iffy

That's because its not an excuse. I don't care for the call, but I get it. You know they're blitzing, run a draw. Oops, line sucks, second and 100, lets throw it. How do we throw against a blitz? Quick stuff? Maybe but it hasn't worked because our guys don't wanna catch. Long stuff? Well, we can't block. Lets try max protect with play action, maybe it'll slow the blitzers up if they have to account for the RB. I get it. Doesn't mean I like it or I'm excusing it. Out of curiosity, which football play doesn't rely on blocking people? I presume that's what we should have dialed up. I just don't know what it is yet. No one on here has an answer.

I don't have a huge problem with our offensive and defensive gameplans, to be honest.  I think both were handcuffed - the offense by the OL, and the defense by field position.

My much bigger coaching concern has to do with player development, specifically on the OL (and to a lesser degree the DL).   The OL may not be all Funk's fault, but I can't say I have much faith in his ability to coach them up at this point.

Isn't Hoke the kind of guy that pays extra attention to both lines??? Last time I checked, they were both pitiful... Really starting to question him.... No question Funk needs to go though.

There is nothing that any of us can do. Even if this team didn't win another game all season. Nothing would happen. It's business as usual. Thank You, David Brandon for your great hire. Michigan looks even more inept then under RR, and that's saying something.

RR defenses were a disaster! His offenses could score a lot of points on bad defenses but once we started playing good defenses that spread was shutdown fast.

RR was a losing coach.  Hoke is just a 3-5 game losing coach. But, I don't like it. I want to be relevant again in the B1G and not just staying as an also ran! I don't see us wining a B1G in years and we will keep Hoke because he will win those 8 or 9 games a year but OSU will dominate us!  Face it,  Urban >>> Hoke!

This team just beat 2010 Michigan. It was called 2013 Indiana. And the 2010 team is only part of the issue. The 2010 recruiting class was a disaster that is at least partly to blame for this offensive line that we both hate to watch.

I find it funny how we give up 29 points to a pretty bad offense, yet everyone wants to fire our OC. Sure, our offense looked bad, but it went up against the best D in the league and maybe all of college football. Our D looked equally bad, yet played mediocre competition. If we hold them to 10 points like we did last year, we have a legit shot at the end.

Guys I usually do not respond on this site, but I feel as a proud alum, I need to say this. Until Michigan lets go of the past, we will never be able to compete in the future. We always want to pull up the all time records against other teams that happened 20-30 years ago. Those days are gone. Bo football is gone. Those days were great, but we are well past that. You insisted on hiring a coach who was in touch with tradition and not with winning. Meyer and Dantonio don't give a crap about tradition, they care about winning now. They are trying to create their own legacy and tradition. Our fan base want the coaches to live up to the tradition of a man that coached 30 years ago. If they are not in touch with that tradition, they will be cast of into the abyss. If we are serious about becoming relevant again , we need to get rid of this michigan man nonsense and hire a quality coach. Period. We have a share if a national championship in the last 50 years. We can do better. But we need to stop blindly following this team. Dave Brandon is milking this thing and taking advantage of all of us. He has not put a quality product on the field in a couple years. As long as we keep buying tickets, he will continue to increase prices. Stop buying tickets until we get a quality coaching staff to go along with our top of the line facilities.

I can maybe see your point about Meyer, but not Dantonio - he's all about bringing back the Perles/Saban days at MSU.  There's nothing particularly innovative about him - he's just an old-school power football guy.

If as a program the coaches set the bar high for Michigan, you must act when players and coaches do not meet that bar. Funk MUST be fired to send a message and Borges really needs to go too. Also need to pull Gardner for a series at least when he literally takes steps backwards. He played like a scared little girl. We might have just lost a couple key recruits, especially Hand and McDowell.
