HTTV Question
I got my HTTV and shirt today. Which is awesome. However, I was wondering if anyone else that had received theirs noticed any issue with cover being pretty beat up. Fresh out of the bag this one looks more worn than the one from last year that I have read several times. I'm not really complaining, because the content is obviously the most important part. However, I was just surprised considering how pristine the 2012 mag was when it arrived.
Not an answer, but I had another question. I'm assuming it would come out later, but is there a timeline for when the basketball and hockey HTTV will come out? I ordered both but only got the Football one.
IIRC the kickstarter just said it would come out at a later date or something. Realisitically, it would be insane for the few guys who put together HTTV to do that and the basketball/hockey edition at the same time, especially since HTTV needs to be out before the end of August
mine came with a note that it would be out late Sept/Oct
Yeah, basketball/hockey won't be out until September-October. I wouldn't expect that in the mail until mid-Oct. We haven't even written most of it, and I just started getting the photos sorted out.
Got some awesome shots of the incoming hockey recruits yesterday
I noticed he slightest bit of wear on mine as well. Maybe it's made out of flimsier material or something? Idk. Not that it matters at all, it wasn't something I dwelled on for more than .5 seconds. The preview itself looks great.
That is probably why I was so surprised. Mine wasn't in the mailbox. I live in a small town, and I know the Post Mistress pretty well. I told her to expect the package and asked to just have it set aside instead of put in the box. Maybe for the next round they can use a solid envelope instead of the bags? That might help prevent the damage.
what local/Michigan stores/chains is it available in?
Right now any ann arbor UGP store (including Moe's) and Literati has a few copies for sale. We're going to be in Costco but probably not by Aug 5 which was the original plan.
If it's all the same buy it at Underground because they do nice things for us like deliver copies to those other stores.
You should bug your CVS to carry it and then come back and give them my contact.
The reason it got into that store was Maple Street had a relationship with a newsstand distributor who has a relationship with CVS. When the Maple Street guy couldn't pay us for the 2011 book we asked if he could turn over that contact at least, but instead he went to go work for a different company that publishes preview books and cashed in that relationship that way, since he could rub out his debt to us by declaring bankruptcy.
...and the package looked fine on the outside, but once it was opened I noticed considerable wear/damage. Last one arrived in great shape. That said, I can't wait to devour!
Darn, I haven't received my HTTV yet. Just ordered the book by itself, so I think it should be here by now. I'll give it another day or two, though.
That's why I just buy mine at the news stand (the what?). I'm very particular about that kind of thing, not sure why.
I got mine in Memphis, TN today in pretty decent shape.
Guess I should feel lucky with the distance and everything. Maybe different envelope from last year?
I know some of you have to be wondering the same thing I am
for consistent brand marketing across platforms, mr. fisherman
And this quote from Seth's opening is crazy
By this point we pretty much trust Mattison will plug in competent sophomores and keep the defense in the top 15
How glorious it was to read that and know that it's probably going to be true. We've come a long freakin way in 3 years
Got mine a few days ago...fine condition.
Mine has some wear around the edges and a few pages have odd little creases in them that run top to bottom. Also the ones I saw on display at UGP had covers with lots of wear on the edge.
Nothing to the point I'd go write angry letters to Seth, but I was left with the impression whoever is printing these is having growing pains, which is expected HTTV is with some small time outfit after Maple Street went out of business.
I produce and distribute 35k brochures annually; it's a daunting task. The product needs to be under 13 oz. to avoid additional permit and postage fees. The stock for this HTTV is more forgiving than prior editions (our faithful USPS delivery folk being constrained by time and mailbox size) and the content is fantastic. Well done MGoStaff.
Yeah, exactly.
My mailman decided it was a great idea to roll it up into my box. Great idea. He rolled it opposite the binding (Hamburger instead of hotdog). So yeah even though there was plenty of space to hotdog it my binding is all weird now.
Mine was good enough, but the mail person did jam it into the mail box and bent the cover a bit. Must have a lot of Sparty mail workers.....
Postal delivery IS a four year degree at Michigan State....
ligher page stock, maybe some blue from the other side of the page is showing through. Which page?
And the spine has a couple of bends in it. As said above, nothing I'd complain about in a letter of outrage, but I thought I'd add to the data so they can assess the process when it's all done and make improvements.
I can't really tell you. You know why? Because mine hasn't f#*king shown up yet!!!
{takes deep breath}
We went down several steps in cover stock and also page stock. You'll also note it's a little smaller than last year's as well. That's because we wasted a good $3,000 last year by having a book that was too heavy to send in the mail as a first class media. We had to get under 13 ounces and didn't want to cut pages, so we cut page thickness. We went with the highest quality stock we could while shaving ounces and just barely made it.
I'm really sorry if the mail beat it up. We did spring for padded envelopes for the ones with t-shirts to avoid that but sadly you never know what the mailmen will do to a package once it's in their hands. Everything went into the envelope fresh out of the box.
If you'll be in metro-Detroit or Ann Arbor I'll swap you a clean one.

I appreciate the offer and the response. I was actually supposed to be in AA this weekend, but my friend just cancelled. Stupid real life responsibilities getting in the way of alcohol consumption.
I'm guessing that shipping in these envelopes is cheaper than using one of the heavy cardboard envelopes that USPS and UPS use?
Mine was wrapped in the t-shirt. It is entirely possible that the prolonged contact with an outline of the worst state ever is responsible for the damage.
I miss old comic book paper stock. They don't even print comic books on it anymore.
Yeah mine got beat to hell. Not really sure how one tears a thick magazine on the binder side.
Looking forward to reading it tonight, though.
