Many more freshman jersey #s revealed
List of the new freshman numbers revealed along with the ones already known to refresh the memory. The number changes with Drake and Dennis make more sense now-
It's not that far. Only sixty-eight days for M football. It will be here before you know it.
Henry Poggi has switched positions, and will be providing depth at safety this season. Team player, that guy.
Yeah #7 on the D line is going to look really odd. Also at 55, Dawson is going to look like a center.
preferred walk-on
what the hell. "Preferred Walk On." Everybody else was doing it....
I feel like Shane Morris after Henne as 7 is going to cement that number as the number you wear if you are a badass Michigan quarterback.
(I can see into the future).
It's interesting to consider that with the advent of the "legends number" program, some of these numbers could be purely temporary.
For instance, the coaches know they will award #11 to Quinton Washington near the beginning of the year. Poggi wants #76, but obviously can't have it until its vacated. For whatever reason, they stick him at #7 in the mean time. (All hypothetical, but you get the point.)
#20
#22
#28
#29
#32
#33
#34
#35
#40
#44
I can think of a lot of great backs in the #32 and #34.
So formal... if you're going to call him Edward, at least use his full name Edward Nathan George, Jr.
I get the sense with these players the number they wear is secondary to being on the team and wearing the maize and blue. They'd be happy and proud to wear any number.
Do some numbers have greater historic meaning than others? Sure. And to wear those numbers is no doubt an extra measure of pride. But most meaningful is be a Wolverine and strap on the winged helmet.
I love what Hoke has done to shape the spirit of this team. Love it.
(All that said, my very favorite number is #41 -- Rob Lytle's number.)
DeVeon has always run hard behind that #4..Keep it up kid..Him and DGreen could make some opposing LBers quit
/s
Hopefully he brings the "rage" back to the number 4. I loved watching Brandon Minor run.
wait how do you cycle in players? /still waiting for my media copy EA.
I always wondered how this works. I have to assume senior players get to choose whether to keep/change their number first. But do scholarship players get priorirty over walk-ons? If a Devin Gardner for whatever reason wants Brian Cleary's (walk-on QB) this year, would Cleary have to give it up? Just curious. I know in the NFL, it's generally if you want my number you have to pay/trade me something for it.
Yeah, scholarship players get to choose their numbers. Walk-ons get the leftovers.
I always thought numbers were assigned by the coaches. How else do you explain J.T. Floyd getting #1 in 2008? Or Devin Gardner making the switch from #7 to #12? Or all those other stories where a player says he walked into the coach's office and the coach said "You're wearing this number"?
Interesting. I wonder why James Ross didn't choose #6 as a freshman then. It was available, and that was the number he had in HS.
There are also stories like Wyatt Shallman wearing #33 for a teammate who passed away, Henry Poggi wearing #7 despite being a defensive tackle, etc. I don't know the particulars of how Floyd got the #1 jersey, except maybe he said he didn't care what number he got and Rodriguez's staff didn't know any better.
Fair point, good sir.
Cinco de Mayo Taco Charlton
"Tate Forcer: Michigan Legend"?
I can see it.
That is one badass lookin' QB.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CATCH COLD, TATE! It's only summer!
...for Cinco de Quatro.
What's Quatro?
First thing I noticed too. Not only is WS staying on O, but two big strong young athletes now can't play special teams together. Seems a little odd (the second issue, not so much the first).
