Semi OT - MGoVideo deleted
I know there's a lot of people on here who watched Thorin's videos, just relaying the bad news.
YouTube terminated the mgovideo and mgodisney YouTube accounts today. I'll keep uploading but that's more than 1500 videos lost.

No!!
is going on with this world !?!
I hate youtube. Why would they do this to us!
ugh.
To that guy who brought Thorin to the attention of those shit bird lawyerin bastards, and the lawyerin bastards, and YouTube:

That kid has to be 15 or 16 years old now. Someone needs to find him for a Where Are The Now? piece.

Every time I see that picture, I think how I can totally picture what this kid will look like when he grows up...

Is this what you are picturing?
That sucks. Thorin posted several great videos and went out his way to post several OSU full games from this past fall. Heck, I even subscribed to his content. I hope he had back ups of his content and didn't lose anything permanently. Not sure if he'll read this thread but thanks for being fair and objective in the content you posted.
What a bunch of poop.
WolverineHistorian, MGoVideo and WolverineDevotee have all lost their content
It was curtains for free YouTube the minute Google bought it and has been in the dumpster since. Now it is a glorified Netflix with ads on every video, copyright nazis going after people making no money off of videos and douches like movieclips making people pay to watch movies.
Be right back
It was purchased in 2006, it's still free, and if you want to pirate the game videos, you still can.
I do'nt think it's an anyone's best interest to take down fan videos and stuff because I feel it spurs interest, but this has nothing to do with Google.

Google owns YouTube, so it has everything to do with the parent company.
If YouTube were still a start-up, they would actually care about pissing off users, but since they are owned and backed by Google, their users are like 99% of the Internet, so who cares if they piss off anyone.
BTW, I'll refrain from anything political here.

If YouTube was still a startup they would have no resources to fight copyright claims, and would have to pull videos even more often than they do now. As it is, Google has used its clout to get some copyright holders to allow videos to stay up in exchange for a percentage of ad revenues. This DOES NOT happen if YouTube is still a small company.
Also remember that before Google bought YouTube there was very little copyrighted content on it. Back in those days it was still serving its original purpose, which was essentially a dump for home videos and the like.

You are completely wrong. There was tons of movies and the like all over youtube before google bought it.

Which sole? The left one or the right one?
I was going to ask if I should be nervous for my own sake but 60% of my account is currently blocked anyway so it's not like it would be as big a loss if it happened 2 months ago.
I went to go watch the 2002 Washington game the other day and that's what I figured when I couldn't find it. Fucking youtube nazis.
Guh. When will people learn that free advertising on Youtube is GOOD for your brand?
This is really terrible news. Can't have nothin'. So sick of this, you guys.
RIP MGoVideo! You'll be missed!!
to hell with youtube.
This is very disappointing
Why would you delete those other than because you can? Were they making a lot of money off of 1992 Michigan - Indiana highlights?
Everyone on Mgoblog should send an angry email to youtube. It's war!
This is really sad. The worst part about this is a lot of the videos he uploaded were only uploaded by him, so now so many great videos are lost. This is fucking horrible.
God damnit, I am now realizing that pretty much all of the michigan videos I watched on youtube over the past few years were uploaded by him. This is a huge loss.
Send in the mgotanks and mgoinfantry!
...and what a valuable resource we've lost because of that. Terrible news. Hopefully, MGoVideo is able to exist again somewhere. Immediate reaction, of course....
"YOUTUBE!!!"
Or will a clone pop up to take their place? Seems like the niche is there.
April 29th, 2013 at 10:56 PM ^
Since Google owns YouTube, they will make sure to squash any competitors in their SERP's. In a way, though, it will be better if there is a smaller place that people only find on purpose instead of by accident.
Are the ESPN/ABC games content of Disney or somebody else?
Disney is the parent company.
Damn!! There goes the "man" keeping us down!
This can't be that surprising... Copyrighted content is copyrighted content. Sure, it was great to have all that stuff up, and I certainly watched more than my fair share of videos on these accounts.
But really. We all knew this would probably happen at some point.
What a joke! So much for free media.
Guys, torrents. Download and seed. Streaming on demand with YouTube was fun while it lasted, but that was really just the path of least resistance.
I just wanna go see the final kick of the 02 Washington game, or highlights of 05 MSU, or the 97 rose bowl highlights. I dont want all whole hardrive full of videos just to watch the cool 30 seconds of each game.

There's software to chop music and/or videos as you please. It takes an extra step, but if you want your custom product, it's what you pay.
