OT: UConn student terrified by new husky dog logo
Well , it's not exactly the logo itself that "terrifies" Carolyn Luby, but the traits she sees represented by the new logo. As Luby, puts in her open letter to UConn president Susan Herbst,
Instead of giving ... problematic aspects of male athletic peer culture at UConn a second look or a giving the real face of athletics a true makeover, it appears that the focus of your administration is prioritizing the remodeling of the fictional face of the Husky Logo.
. . . .
What terrifies me about the admiration of such traits is that I know what it feels like to have a real life Husky look straight through you and to feel powerless, and to wonder if even the administration cannot “mess with them.”

most of the policital system in the US is designed to avoid the "tyranny of the majority" and it can be argued that this is why the republic has lasted as long as it has.
would you all like some examples?
you're talking about tyranny of the powerful over the powerless/unrepresented based on race/class.
I'm talking about majority rule limitations based in the constitution and structure for the republic: the senate, the fillibuster, 2/3 suremajority votes, the electoral college, and the checks & balances system in general.
That's what Eric Bolling said about the firing of Mike Rice. This article is fractally absurd and thus humorous, but making blanket get-off-my-lawn statements is rather petty.

"fractally" absurd?

"no matter what resolution you look at it, it's still ridiculous"
I don't get it. Was this woman writing raped by a Husky at some point in her life?
I just took a major ride on the lollercoaster.
EDIT: After reading the whole thing, it makes slightly more sense. Kind of. Not really.
However, she may be drunk.
I have a growler from the Kuhnhenn of their DRIPA. It's really good, but at almost 10% I don't get to drink as much as I'd want. It's Friday so i'll have a second glass, though.
Isn't UConn most known for its WOMEN's basketball team? Of all the schools that prioritize "male athletic peer culture," UConn ain't so bad.
As for the rest of it....see above comments of confusion.
Hey, just because I like football doesn't mean I don't have a feminine side. Really, though, I was glancing through the Purdue blog Boiled Sports and there was mention of the story in the Twitter feed on the blog. So, which would be more pathetic, spending my Friday evening looking at a Purdue sports blog or a feminist magazine?
You need to think outside the box. Next time, avoid either option.
No charge for the advice.

Huskies.... Feminists.....
what the OP was doing reading The Feminist Wire when he stumbled across that article.
You beat me by a minute, Butterfield. Your great mind is just slightly faster than my almost-great mind, I guess...
That Husky is LITERALLY raping me with it's gaze.
That is not synonymous with rape and it's people like you that allow others to thin it is.
