OT: UConn student terrified by new husky dog logo
Well , it's not exactly the logo itself that "terrifies" Carolyn Luby, but the traits she sees represented by the new logo. As Luby, puts in her open letter to UConn president Susan Herbst,
Instead of giving ... problematic aspects of male athletic peer culture at UConn a second look or a giving the real face of athletics a true makeover, it appears that the focus of your administration is prioritizing the remodeling of the fictional face of the Husky Logo.
. . . .
What terrifies me about the admiration of such traits is that I know what it feels like to have a real life Husky look straight through you and to feel powerless, and to wonder if even the administration cannot “mess with them.”

wat?
Huh?
For video.
That girl should watch The Grey instead of writing the University President
What did I just read?
So she's saying use a real husky as their mascot? Sounds like an awesome idea
/s in case
this country has turned today's kids into a bunch of wimps. They cater to the minority for every little thing so they dont get offended.
welcome to America, since forever
Catering to the minority represents very little of American history.
Barack Obama, free college tuition and title 9... Can we come in?

And all those things are fairly recent. And I'm not sure how Barack Obama being elected president means slaves were catered to....
most of the policital system in the US is designed to avoid the "tyranny of the majority" and it can be argued that this is why the republic has lasted as long as it has.
would you all like some examples?
Well the people groups I listed would have a say about how well it has prevented the tyranny of the majority. But I'm not going to argue about it here b/c of board policies. I bid you adieu
you're talking about tyranny of the powerful over the powerless/unrepresented based on race/class.
I'm talking about majority rule limitations based in the constitution and structure for the republic: the senate, the fillibuster, 2/3 suremajority votes, the electoral college, and the checks & balances system in general.
Are those groups of people not minority groups that were discriminated against in this country? If you were talking about the political system, you should have specified in your first post instead of making a general statement.
I would agree our political system does not cater to the majority. It caters to the minority of the rich and powerful and was designed that way in the counter revolution after we won independence.
That's what Eric Bolling said about the firing of Mike Rice. This article is fractally absurd and thus humorous, but making blanket get-off-my-lawn statements is rather petty.

"fractally" absurd?

"no matter what resolution you look at it, it's still ridiculous"
I ordered a Negro to shine my boots the other day, and he got mad at me. Can you believe it?!
I don't get it. Was this woman writing raped by a Husky at some point in her life?
Is she saying that she had a bad experience with a husky and that the new logo is so realistic that it reminds her of it? What the hell?
I just took a major ride on the lollercoaster.
EDIT: After reading the whole thing, it makes slightly more sense. Kind of. Not really.
I bet she isn't in a sorority.
However, she may be drunk.
We are getting ran over by bullshit in this country.
I mean....come on
Is this the drinking thread?
I have a growler from the Kuhnhenn of their DRIPA. It's really good, but at almost 10% I don't get to drink as much as I'd want. It's Friday so i'll have a second glass, though.
Lets just make the drinking thread in replies of my post and yours.
I picked up a 22 oz bomber of Three Floyd's Rabbid Rabbit saison ale. Really good.
Now on to Unibroue's Ephémère. Very champagne like, good and doing the trick.
Isn't UConn most known for its WOMEN's basketball team? Of all the schools that prioritize "male athletic peer culture," UConn ain't so bad.
As for the rest of it....see above comments of confusion.
Why on earth are you reading The Feminist Wire?
Hey, just because I like football doesn't mean I don't have a feminine side. Really, though, I was glancing through the Purdue blog Boiled Sports and there was mention of the story in the Twitter feed on the blog. So, which would be more pathetic, spending my Friday evening looking at a Purdue sports blog or a feminist magazine?
You need to think outside the box. Next time, avoid either option.
No charge for the advice.
Oddly , feminist literature is probably the worst way to get in touch with ones feminine side....have you seen a feminist? Arf.

Huskies.... Feminists.....
what the OP was doing reading The Feminist Wire when he stumbled across that article.
You beat me by a minute, Butterfield. Your great mind is just slightly faster than my almost-great mind, I guess...
That Husky is LITERALLY raping me with it's gaze.
It's eye-fucking you?
That is not synonymous with rape and it's people like you that allow others to thin it is.
/feministed
"Unwanted Eye-Fucking."
of possible suspects:
The 54 year old polar bear looks guilty.
Was apparently part of Disneyland.
He doesn't look like he's raping anyone.
Hmmmm, maybe just with his eyes....
Patriot Husky is armed in the photo, I can tell you as Patriot Husky's attorney that this is an outrageous violation of Patriot Husky's rights. Highly prejudicial.
Move their home football game to Michigan Stadium to de-emphasize sports.
I'm here for the gangbang.
