Da'Shawn Hand names Michigan's coaches his favorites
Da' Shawn Hand (#1 ranked 2014 recruit) named Michigan's coaching staff his favorite. Hand recently named his top 5, as dicussed in a previous post, and Michigan made the cut. It's nice to see how highly Hand thinks of our coaching staff, and it's huge to hear he has them as is favorite. Hand did say a different team had his favorite coach, but on a whole Michigan's coaching staff was his favorite.
It's obvious the staff is doing a great job evidenced by the classes we have have put together, and to hear a top ranked kid make this kind of claim about our staff lets you know Hoke and the gang can put together top ranked classes for years to come.
The below article is paywalled, so i can't say too much about what he said of the other teams, but based on Chantel Jennings post and the headline of the paywalled article it was easy to figure out what I posted above.

Well, this is certainly better than him saying UM's coaching staff is the worst he's ever interacted with.

They're my favorites, too.

I don't have insider, but I'm pretty sure it's Hand's presumed favorite, Virginia Tech, that has Hand's favorite coach: DC Buddy Foster.

Hand specifically names Bud Foster as his favorite coach but says Michigan's coaching staff is his favorite.
After reading the article I think the op is making a big deal out of nothing. The interviewer just quoted some nice things Hand had to say about each of his top 5 schools. He definitely wasn't hinting at Michigan being his leader because he likes the coaching staff the best.

Are their names on his bookcovers yet?
Do high school kids use bookcovers anymore?
Do they use books?
Why are my fingernails painted?

On top it says Will you commit to Michigan? Yes No (Maybe).

That sounds great, but Hand and McDowell might be playing for Virginia Tech and Notre Dame, respectively. I'm not sure they'll face off against Ohio State very often.

I am not sure how this:
to hear a top ranked kid make this kind of claim about our staff
leads you to this:
lets you know Hoke and the gang can put together top ranked classes for years to come.
How does a kid liking our staff "let me know" our staff can put together top ranked classes for years to come?
That doesn't make any sense.

Try starting with this: 1 + 1 = 2. Then we'll proceed forward when you've mastered this.

let me break it down for you in the way I understand it.
This guy has over thirty offers, including ones from Ohio St., Auburn, Florida, ND, Oklahoma, Bama, and somehow Michigan is in his top five.
Even if this kid doesn't commit to us (a distinct possibility), the fact that our staff is able to get a Virginia kid, the #1 overall Rivals recruit, with as many offers he has (from SEC schools and the national champion), to have us in his top five and say he likes our staff the best is a massive testament to their ability as recruiters.
Sooner or later, it's going to pay off. That's all we're saying. We're not guaranteeing that Hoke and co. will land him. We're just saying that it's impressive that he's as sought-after as he is and Michigan is in the running.

Next year could be a banner year with defensive linemen.

Getting him to commit to Michigan over VaTech, Alabama, or other area schools might be an uphill battle, but it's a great baseline to start from.

He said one of the things that stands out most to him about Va Tech is their "excellent" engineering program.

Honestly, if I were the prospective #1 overall recruit for my class, I'd probably be putting my eggs in the NFL basket rather than engineering. I'd still choose Michigan.

When was the last time Michigan landed a #1 overall recruit?
January 20th, 2013 at 9:03 PM ^
Never. According to Rivals, at least.
I think Mallett was the highest at #4 or #5.
January 21st, 2013 at 9:28 AM ^
I know you are a relatively new guy :-) but back in the day some (but not all) of the papers/services had Justin Fargas as the #1 guy (most had him as the #1 RB).
January 20th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
Never during the years that Rivals and Scout have been around that I remember. I think Charles would have been a top 3 guy if they had services back then. I think Mallett is the closest we've come to a number one guy. He was top 5.

No one in the modern recruiting rankings era. As far as the last guy who had that kind of hype, maybe Drew Henson?
January 21st, 2013 at 9:34 AM ^
I know it's hard to believe but Henson wasn't Michigan's highest rated recruit in that class. Fargas was rated more highly. I believe that Walker and Terrell were also rated slightly higher.
