The Game: Red vs. Blue?
Something I've often wondered, and it came across my twitter feed today (h/t @Hooverstreet), why don't we play OSU as Red vs. Blue with both teams wearing their home unis?
In the OSU Uniformz thread it often came up that the Home Jersey is the Untouchable, for both us and the OSU guys on the board. While Adidas has tried playing with the away uni piping, and Nike changed things up too, AA Torch and Pitchfork would really go nuts if they tried to do anything to the home blues.
This could add a bit of stabilization. Every year we play the last Saturday of November. Every year it's at noon (most years). And every year it looks like OSU vs. Michigan because we both wear traditional home unis.
That said, the "one team must wear white" rule came about for black-and-white TV, and has since been taken off the books. As I like Michigan's blue home jersey, I'd love to see us wear it more often. We could go color vs. color against OSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Indiana in conference, we could have done it against Bama and should do it against Arkansas. UCLA and USC do this every year, I'd love to see us pick it up. What do you think?

They wear scarlet...yes, I do distinguished between the spectrum, and hate all incarnations of "red". Just saying, however, this would be an interesting change of pace, if not add to the tradition and rivalry. This is a good point!

What do we with that??? Am I the only one concerned about this often overlooked historical footnote in Ohio/Michigan history? In some way, we should honor the heros lost in that Great War. Perhaps a patch in the shape of Toledo on our uniforms.

Whoa, how did you get my photo for your avatar? I'm a private person.

The only casualty sustained was a non life threatening stabbing by way of pen knife.

I would love to wear blue as much as possible, much like LSU almost always wears white. I don't see why people think it is messing with tradition. As others have stated, the reason that one team wears white was due to black and white televisions. There is no reason to keep that going if your only reason is "because that is how we have always done it." Calling Michigan's white road uniforms a tradition is going out on a limb IMO. I also don't consider it a gimmick to wear the best uniform in sports as much as possible. We can still wear white against NW and Iowa (black and navy would probably be tough to differentiate), but I am in favor of wearing our blues against red and green schools.

My order of preferences:
(1) Both teams wear their damn uniforms (classic look).
(2) Red vs. blue
(3) Leave the home team's uniform alone and mess with the visiting team's uniform in some silly, 21st century way.
(4) Mess with the home team's uniform / both uniforms (e.g., with fake "throwbacks").
I'd be fine with red vs. blue, but that's really just because it feels like our chances of seeing The Game played with actual, classic uniforms might be fading. In reality, though, since you don't sell more jerseys by having red vs. blue, I think this is unlikely. It's all about the $$$.

Not necessary. USC/UCLA is a special case because they're both schools in L.A. (and they both shared the Coliseum for awhile). Our tradition is to have only one home team. Keep it as it is.

I wouldn't mind this idea, but remember that both schools have already messed with the home jerseys and survived the torches and pitchforks.

That would be very cool, coming from an outsider.
