Uniformz: Rumors of MSU "special" gear this weekend?
http://www.delanysdozen.com/2012-articles/october/michigan-state-s-pro-combat-helmet-leaked.html
This site is reporting that MSU may be pumping themselves up and psyching out confused Michigan players by wearing shiny helemts this weekend.
It reminds me that animals and babies are usually attracted to shiny things.
Anyway, real or not?
P.S. - searched board and did not see anything on this SIAP.

Sure, there's a freakout at every proposed change, but then people see the real thing and most end up thinking, "eh....not as bad when you see it in person." In the past, this has generally been true for the 1998 video boards, luxury boxes/stadium renovation, UTL jerseys, bball shorts, cowboy classic uniforms.

Maybe Denard & Co. can hang these ornaments on their Christmas tree this year...

I dont understand all the uniform hate up in here. Not saying change is always good, or that I have like all of our uniform variations, but Im game for something new every now and again.
I think im the only person here who actually like the ND asymetrical uniforms for being unique. Do I like it enough to change stuff like that perminently? no, but special uniforms gets publicity, publicity leads to getting your name out there, and the more your name is out there the more recruits hear it. Does a single uniform sway a commits decision? no, but again, as long as you arent being reported for an NCAA violation, any press is good press.

I wouldn't call it "uniform hate" at all. I think it's more a case of a lot of people here wanting to see a slightly higher football-to-marketing ratio on the field.

It's definitely uniform hate with me. It's all tinkering for the sole sake of goosing new jersey sales. That's all.

Well spoken, my friend.

I'm in the tiny group of people who enjoys the Maryland uniforms (even the turtle-shell helmet). I tend to enjoy this more when other schools do it, though. If Dave Brandon ever touches the Michigan helmet, I will....well, be upset and bitch about it on the internet, probably, but you get what I'm saying.

I'm with you. The flag uniforms are ridiculous, but in an awesome way.

The flag cleats are by far my favorite. So terrible. So great.

Couldn't be...if Maxwell took the shot the image would be incomplete.

I remember the worst week of the season being the week that you had to break in your new helmet. I think it would suck to have to do it in the middle of the season right before a big game.

make them block and catch, I don't think it'll matter too much.

No amount of pro combat can cover up how ugly a beat down we're about to give them will make them look. They'd do better to dress up in some other teams unis so on replays they can pretend it didn't happen to them.

Um....I actually like them.
Now - I do not want us join the "jersey/helmet of the week" club and would love to see us go back to actual maize n blue uni's a-la early 90's but for teams that do embrace the tradition of not keeping traditions these are not that bad. Be honest now......they are WAY better than last year's Kellen Winslow's "I'm a soldier" throwbacks and are not nearly as bad as Notre Dame's epic uniform fail this with the two sided helmets.
Don't know how they'll look on top of whatever uniform they decide to unleah on us tomorrow but as stand-alone I think they look pretty cool.

Maxwell will have a #47 imprint on his shiny new helmet. I mostly feel sorry for the guy. Mostly.

help with getting the wind knocked out of their heads.

Remember that the Michigan players went nuts when they saw those waiting for them in the locker room in East Lansing last year. They loved them and the game is for them first and foremost.
The fact that square older people like us didn't like them shouldn't be the deciding factor.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
I thought the consensus after the game was that Michigan wouldn't do that again because it was too distracting. I don't know exactly how it played out, but I think you want your players thinking about the game and not distracted by their "cool" new clothes. I always thought that was one of the problems with road games, that players were occassionally distracted a little by things that were unfamiliar that day, like the hotel, lockerroom, etc. It makes you feel a little "out of sorts." (Road woes are about more than just crowd noise).
I guess Michigan is now of the opinion that gameday should be so rouine and practiced that there should be minimum distractions.
So, is it a good thing for Michigan if MSU is a little distracted?
P.S. - I don't think it matters much, but it is somewhat interesting to discuss.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:15 AM ^
Doesn't matter. Michigan wins this game. They can take their pretty helmets home and throw them in the trash, cause they're not going to want to remember this one.
October 19th, 2012 at 1:12 PM ^
This way there'll be a nice big flash when Le'veon Bell runs into that wall of Michigan defenders 50 times for a minimal gain
