Kugler, McGovern, Pocic?
February 24th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
Kugler this weekend
McGovern on 3/10
February 24th, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
Fuck it. Let's just sign our who class now and start working on 2014.
/sarcasm
I wonder if anyone has ever done that?
February 24th, 2012 at 2:05 PM ^
That's your answer. That's your answer for everything! Tatoo it on your forehead!
February 24th, 2012 at 2:30 PM ^
Your revolution is over, Mr. Lebowski. The bums lose! The bums will always lose!
February 24th, 2012 at 1:44 PM ^
I'm just wondering who takes the last spot for O line and if it will be a pure tackle prospect.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
Bring in guys you want, take the first to jump on board.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:01 PM ^
February 24th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
Anyone have an idea why they are hitting the line so hard? I would understand if they are all interior lineman, but man the coaches must really want these guys to stay fresh during games because there is jsut no way you can keep some of these guys off the field.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
Not sure if you're serious.
Have you looked at the potential 2013 depth chart on offensive line?
February 24th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
It'd be nice to have a 2 DEEP again.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
After 2013 the only scholarship O-Lineman on the team will be those in the 2012 and 2013 class. Plus Jack Miller and Chris Bryant.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:48 PM ^
Numbers wise, the situation was worse this year (2011) than it is likely to be in 2013 or 2014. I think there were only 10 scholarship OL's in 2011. Hoke and Co. were fortunate to have so few injuries
50 | David Molk | OL | 6-2 | 286 | RS SR | Lemont, Ill. (Lemont Township) |
52 | Ricky Barnum | OL | 6-3 | 292 | RS JR | Lakeland, Fla. (Lake Gibson) |
57 | Elliott Mealer | OL | 6-5 | 310 | RS JR | Wauseon, Ohio (Wauseon) |
58 | Chris Bryant | OL | 6-4 | 341 | FR | Chicago, Ill. (Simeon) |
60 | Jack Miller | OL | 6-4 | 263 | FR | Perrysburg, Ohio (St. John's Jesuit) |
63 | Rocko Khoury | OL | 6-4 | 287 | RS JR | Traverse City, Mich. (Traverse City West) |
65 | Patrick Omameh | OL | 6-4 | 299 | RS JR | Columbus, Ohio (St. Francis DeSales) |
72 | Mark Huyge | OL | 6-6 | 302 | RS SR | Wyoming, Mich. (Catholic Central) |
75 | Michael Schofield | OL | 6-7 | 299 | RS SO | Orland Park, Ill. (Carl Sandburg) |
77 | Taylor Lewan | OL | 6-8 | 302 | RS SO | Scottsdale, Ariz. (Chaparral) |
As for 2012, we stand to have 12 scholarship OL with a possibility of 13 if Kozan comes aboard
As for 2013 we have 12 as it stands now but it could be 14 and the possibiltiy of 15 with AJ Williams shifting from TE if needed. M would have to have horrible attrition rate to match the 10 scholarship number of 2011
OT (5 + 2) |
C. Fox |
B. Braden |
M. Schofield* T. Lewan* |
||
OG (5 - 1) |
D. Dawson K. Bosch |
C. Bryant* B. Bars |
P. Omameh* R. Barnum* E. Mealer* |
||
C (2 - 1) | J. Miller* | R. Khoury* |
February 24th, 2012 at 4:00 PM ^
But you really have to look at it as "number of non-true frosh OL," of which we had 8 in 2011, because guys like Miller and Bryant weren't going to play unless it was dire.
That means that in 2013, we'll again have 8, and that assumes no attrition and that Lewan stays for his 5th year. Not only that, but at least three and maybe four of those 8 will be redshirt freshmen in 2013, meaning that in 18 months, we'll have at least one OL starter who is not yet on campus, and we won't have a single back-up who has seen the field even in mop up duty.
That's why getting Kozan will be huge and losing Stacey hurt. Bright side - 2015 and 2016 should be good years for the OL.
February 24th, 2012 at 4:53 PM ^
More bright side: We have Graham Glasgow a 6'7'' 315 preferred walkon who redshirted this season and probably passed on some schollies to attend M. former Wolverine great Kurt Becker was his HS coach and says he could start in the BIG
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/602143-michigan-interested-in-a-late-bloomer-for-the-2011-class
Then there is Dan Gibbs 6'7'' 315, who will be preferred walkon next season and passed on some MAC scholarships to attend Michigan
February 24th, 2012 at 5:00 PM ^
Exactly, if even one of those guys can step up and be a quality back-up or spot starter, we're in good shape. Definitely add Erik Gunderson to that list who is 6'8" 312 on the roster, and who got some reps in the spring game last year, and I'm sure will again this year with the loss of Huyge. He'll still be around in 2013 (likely) and if he's a solid back-up at tackle it would help a lot.

Is Steven Elmer visiting?
February 24th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
Only if you can arrange a sit-down with John U. Bacon.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
...that the commenter on this story suggested rather matter-of-factly that Elmer(?) was "Visiting today. Flipping tonight?"
I know nothing about the author of the story, nor the commenter.
I just ask questions.
btw; I think all of our recruits ought to have a sit-down with John U. Bacon, for what it's worth.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
Via twitter; Elmer is NOT going to flip to UM.

Patrick Kugler, Jack Keeler & LTT per WN
February 24th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
I was hoping Kozan and Diggs were 2 of the 3.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
Can Diggs play Center?
February 24th, 2012 at 2:14 PM ^
I think they look at Diggs as a replacement for Glanda, a guy that can snap the ball and catch passes.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
LTT must be spending a TON on gas money driving from Peoria to Ann Arbor almost every weekend. I love the enthusiasm he has for Michigan though.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:17 PM ^
Where are those boosters with free Corvettes when you need them?
February 24th, 2012 at 4:56 PM ^
February 24th, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
I thought he had been taking the train.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
Ran into LTT earlier this week and he said he's making a trip to Ann Arbor this weekend and was also trying to get Ty Isaac to go along with him. It appears Shane isn't the only commit doing some recruiting.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:18 PM ^
LTT said dpecifically there were three guys he was trying to lure to the good side. I assume Isaac and Treadwell are two of those, but I have no idea who the third is.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:48 PM ^
Pocic maybe.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:53 PM ^
Yes, they all work out at the Core 6 facility. It's kind of become a Michigan pipeline of sorts if you think about it.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:56 PM ^
Don't forget that not every lineman that you bring in becomes a starting-quality player. You're going to lose someone to grades/behavior/personal problems and someone's going to get hurt. Someone's not going to be as good as you hoped.
If you bring in 10 over two years and seven of them are quality players, you're probably doing really well.
February 24th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
Not really sure the best way to word this question but:
If the OL line class fills up, how do the coaches deal with staying in the game for other OL prospects (to possibly pick up as insurance should someone in class decommit) when they may have had an offer extended to them but now no room left?
I don't suspect/hope for any of our current commits to change their mind, but when a position fills so early a lot can happen before signing day.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
First of all, you continuously recruit the guys you have committed so they stay that way. If they're seeing you regularly and hearing from you often, then they'll be less likely to decommit, or at least you'll know about it when they're thinking about it.
Then, you keep in touch with the other guys you'd like, and sometimes you just take one more guy than you had targetted for. If you know you need 4 OL in a class, for example, you take verbals from 5. That way, if one guy decommits, you already have his replacement in the class. If they all stick, then you make up for it by taking one less guy the next year, no big deal.
There's no perfect way, but those are what the coaches do to cover themselves.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. In a way I'd been worried thinking it's better to be in position we are now (full except for one spot - and many candidates to fill it) then to be completely full. I no longer have that worry.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:52 PM ^
The other side of it is, if the coaches have one spot left for a certain position group, they're only going to take the kids they really want. So whoever Michigan takes next at OL, it will be a guy the staff loves, you can be assured of that.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
I thought the coaches were on vacation this weekend. Isn't that why Green's visit got canceled?
February 24th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Sometime in the year 2015:
Coach Hoke: Shane, we need you to get rid of the ball more quickly. I dont care if their d-line gave up in the first quarter.
Morris: But coach...if i sip these tea and crumpets too quickly...i burn my tongue. plus i brought bread and salami from home
Hoke: WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT MAKING SANDWICHES IN THE POCKET!?
February 24th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
That was weird.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
Yeah I like the part where Shane's so untouched in the pocket he has time to become British.
February 24th, 2012 at 9:53 PM ^
Maybe it's the bourbon I'm drinking, but damn that was funny
February 24th, 2012 at 2:52 PM ^
has ever seen "crumpets." Tea, maybe.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:58 PM ^
Ugh. Colonials...
February 24th, 2012 at 2:59 PM ^
I partake in tea and crumpets each eve, you bloody ignoramus!
Just kidding. I don't know what the hell a crumpet is.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:14 PM ^
It's similar to a scone.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:20 PM ^
Scones. Now we're talking. I have no idea what was in it, but I ate one of those once.
February 24th, 2012 at 3:16 PM ^
I've just finished eating crumpet. And she was a saucy one, by golly my ole chap!
