Danny O'Brien still an option?

Submitted by Knappster on

With TomVH's cryptic comment yesterday in the ESPN chat, does anyone wonder if Danny O could be back in play?  Tom said that he couldnt really say much other than the person is committed to another school.  I don't think he was referring to Reeves, so who is it?  With all the shenanigans going on at Tennessee, I wouldnt mind seeing O'Brien back in the mix for UM.  And yeah, I know we have a ton of DL talent coming in, but we lost Pharoah who was at one time considered a DL/TE commit.

It was a 5 star recruit. He was wearing a red suit and had a big white beard. He had ti wait for the dead period before he could visit.

Our good friend TomVH has said as much and stated that without going into too much detail that if O'Brien did decommit...he still wouldn't choose Michigan

Let's say it is Danny oBrien. Would the coaches have to run that past pipkins? Or should they for courtesy? Or do they just do what they want and let commits decide how to respond when a recruit of the same position is coming in?

I don't think so...I think Dantanio would have ensured that he is as firm as possible given Arnett's history with commiting to MSU. However, I would love to be wrong in this instance.

You know this makes sense. Total speculation. Let's say Aqua was right and that Dantonio really didn't want Arnett. His decision was between two schools MSU and Michigan pretty much. He committed right away. Maybe Dantonio made him an offer he couldn't refuse. As in, "you don't commit right now we will not take you." If he really said something along these lines and Michigan was serious on saying we only want two receivers then Arnett would be up shit's creek. Yes, he technically can comitt to any program since he got the full release, but if he didn't stick to his guns who would take him? Talent is important but trust is also important as we've seen this year in recruiting. Finishing the theory, Arnett committs to MSU but is generally interested in both schools but wants to have some choice. By safely reserving his spot while secretly visiting UM he could retain some choice even if, hypothetically, Dantonio played hardball. This is wild speculation but could explain some of the facts we've seen. We shall see. Also, Hoke would consider him fair game since he hasn't signed the LOI yet.

This would be impossible. Arnett is already enrolled and has already moved into his dorm on campus.

Additionally, it doesn't make much sense of the comments that originally started the rumor, which discussed a 4* recruit who had already committed, therefore not a transfer.

Tom has said its a 4 star via espn. It's not goodman. He's committed to another school. He hasn't been on the radar at all. O'brien is a 3 star. So yeah I really don't think anyone is going to get it. I thought it was muller as well but apparently it's being denied.

I didn't make it clear. The seceret visitor isn't listed. Goodman has been for a while. Tom has never been able to get a hold of goodman but has talked to the mystery guy.

what we know or has been rumored

- hes a 4 star via espn

- he is commited

- he really hasn't been on our radar

-NOT GOODMAN

Based on all the evidence, that he's a 4 star to ESPN currently committed elsewhere, in addition to the fact that TVH stated that this unknown recruit's visit was being confirmed/denied by a current Michigan commit, I tend to believe that it is Burbridge

It's someone who is currently committed, and who is afraid he'll lose his spot if his visit becomes public.  I only know of one coach who has a hard-and-fast "visit = lost spot" rule:

Brady Hoke.

That's right: it's probably a Michigan commit who is looking to visit Michigan, but who is afraid his Michigan scholarship could be in jeopardy once it gets back to Michigan that he visited Michigan.
