Should the helmet numbers stay?
I really like the helmet numbers and am wondering if they will return for next season. It's encouraging that coach Hoke is open to what the players like so they could be here to stay.
I think they should stay and have an occasional game where the team wears the Legacy helmet. But if the numbers stay, NO helmet stickers!
What's your opinion?

I think team 132 earned the right to have their choice this year. I think they look sweet myself. I'd be for them coming back.

I'm fine with them as long as it's the only change that's made to the uniform.

I hate making a slippery slope argument, but it seems like change breeds change. I agree completely with you, and I would be okay with the single change, but there's too much being stirred around already to feel comfortable. This includes having something around 5 jerseys over this past season, having the #21 patch (not saying it's bad, just something different and publicized), and the numbers staying for more than the UTL game. Maybe it's Brandon, maybe not, but there's a line to be drawn between giving deserving players a choice of their preferences and allowing them to change everything. I'm not being a codger or anything, I just get uneasy about that stuff I guess.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
NO!!!
January 10th, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
..in my opinion, they need to go. Don't mess with the iconic helmet.
January 10th, 2012 at 10:03 PM ^
You really can't make something more perfect than it already is. Now I'm all for tinkering with the away uniforms because I think they need some work. But leave the rest alone. It's already the most recognized and appreciated unifom in all of sports.
January 11th, 2012 at 9:50 AM ^
I will just piggy back on your post it is exactly how I feel.
Well said
January 10th, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
Because UM has had them in the past... but I'd prefer perfection (our regular helmets) undisturbed.
Also, I don't agree with this: It's encouraging that coach Hoke is open to what the players like so they could be here to stay.
You don't build tradition on being overly open to what the players like, uniform-wise. You become Maryland that way.
January 10th, 2012 at 7:15 PM ^
Or Oregon, which no one wants that
/s
January 10th, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
With all the stupid ideas we had this year with regards to uniform changes (I still don't understand the MSU legacy uniforms and those damn white pants), this would be one addition I'd be okay with retaining.
It actually looks pretty cool and has somewhat more of an old school feel to it.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:09 PM ^
I would prefer that they go away. I don't care that much either way, but I like the helmets better without them.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:09 PM ^
for a player to find his helmet around the bench and locker room.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
I really hate the helmet number. I mean, REALLY hate it. I understand for the ND game it was a gimmick, but it needs to disappear, now.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
Not a fan. Our helmets don't need any clutter.
Plus, after hits, the stickers tended to peel off and look untidy. No bueno.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:18 PM ^
please god no. We're not Alabama.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:18 PM ^
But I miss the plain winged helmet.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:20 PM ^
I personally think it takes away from the winged helmet brand. I feel this image below speaks for itself. Adding anything else could be tacky and unnecessary.
But if Coach Hoke and THE TEAM want numbers, then I am all for it.
January 10th, 2012 at 8:15 PM ^
I think 1. We could use the numbers as an alternate for some games (the home uniforms themselves will/should never be changed), 2. I think it could be cool to keep the clean helmet for home games and the numbered helmet for away games.
No matter what, no helmet stickers. You don'y put stickers on an epic-looking Ferrari, why put them on our epic helmets?
January 10th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
If they agree to go to a BCS bowl...then sure
January 10th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
If the numbers stay, i think the facemasks gotta go gray. I'd prefer if the home jersey stayed the same, we did a little bit better with a road jersey, and ONE home game per year with a legacy jersey (ND, lil' bro, or tSIO)
January 10th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
Hell no.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
I don't really dislike them but I would rather they stick with no number. The maize wings alone on the blue is just way too classic.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
Coach Hoke will probably have us ready to play without helemts by next year anyways, making the apperance irrelevant...MAN BALL!!!!
January 10th, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
fun for one year. time to put them back on shelf
January 10th, 2012 at 8:07 PM ^
Just think. This might be the last sight a poor hooker saw.
January 11th, 2012 at 1:27 AM ^
You mean, 5 poor hookers.
January 11th, 2012 at 9:01 AM ^
Let's be clear, there is absolutely no actual proof that CRAIG JAMES KILLED 5 HOOKERS WHILE HE WAS AT SMU. To suggest otherwise would be libelous.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
They ruin the clean and classic look.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
god helmet stickers were ugly as all get out, but still have more tradition to them then these numbers. I like the numbers, but don't want to see them in every game
January 10th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
No numbers, no helmet stickers. Please just give us that smooth clean look. The only time numbers/gray facemasks are cool is when they wear the legacy gear.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
I dont care for the numbers on the helmet and definitely a big no on helmet stickers. Keep 'em clean.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:30 PM ^
I would like to see what the Ducks did and make them chrome with chrome facemasks. the wings and numbers on the side with that chrome look would be awesome!!
signed: Dave Brandon or any 12 year old kid
January 11th, 2012 at 8:58 AM ^
but I agree with your sarcastic remark. Not the sarcasm. Those Oregon helmets were the coolest thing I have ever seen on a football field. The michigan version of that same idea would immediatly get all 5 star recruits to sign for us forever. Somebody with mad graphics skillz should hook up a mock version for us to peruse.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:32 PM ^
FUCK NO! Get rid of them ASAP!
January 10th, 2012 at 6:34 PM ^
I'm fine either way. I like the numbers, but I also like the clean helmet. If this turned out to be Hoke's change to the uniforms, then it sure as hell beats piping and helmet stickers.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:36 PM ^
Michigan has the most iconic uniforms in college football without the helmet numbers. It was cool for a season, but I'd like to see them go, along with those damn alternate uniforms.
I would like to see the helmet stickers return, though.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:38 PM ^
Love 'em, always thought they should have been brought back, and I think with the success we had this year, they deserve to stay.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:38 PM ^
Like a lot of folks, I'm fine either way. Just want us to decide one way or the other (Are we a helmet number team or not?) and then stick with it.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:43 PM ^
I'm a traditionalist about the uniforms, but I am okay with the numbers on the helmet. They are functional for one thing -- easier to figure out who is who on some plays. There were also actually used in the past and therefore a real throwback, not some fake throwback.
I don't think they detract from the classic helmets. I could go either way.
Since I am a child of the Bo era, I am also in favor of the helmet stickers, but I realize I am in a minority on that here.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:50 PM ^
but I also prescribe to the slippery slope theory so I'm torn
January 10th, 2012 at 6:53 PM ^
I'd rather not have the numbers. And no helmet stickers. When you have the best helmets in college football, as we do, you don't need any clutter. Let them be clean of anything but the wing.
Speaking of the wing, I'd rather have the 80's/90's wing. Not the thinner one we have had the last few years.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:53 PM ^
I don't really care, but if they keep them can they find a way to keep them stuck to the helmet?
January 10th, 2012 at 6:54 PM ^
The helmets were perfect the way they were. The numbers make them look cluttered.
January 10th, 2012 at 7:13 PM ^
January 10th, 2012 at 6:59 PM ^
Prefer that they not bring the numbers back next year. But not going to abandon the team over it.
January 10th, 2012 at 6:59 PM ^
Don't like them. Just being honest. I don't really care if they keep them, because I'd rather see helmet stickers than anymore of the bumblebee bullshit we wore for MSU. Leave the damn uniform alone!
January 10th, 2012 at 6:59 PM ^
I don't really care that much, and if the team / Hoke like them, I am fine.
My personal preference is that the helmets look better without them, but that is just my opinion.
