2011 Defense Highlights
UPDATE II: Re-uploaded.
Track list:
1. c-sick - chicago juke anthem
2. jensyao - test beat 9
3. jensyao - test beat 11
4. c-sick - instrumental
5. jensyao - exam
Judging from his youtube subscriptions, I'm guessing jensyao a local kid. These tracks were recommended to me by the guy who did the Denard eating videos.
UPDATE: Had to delete as the audio matched third party content. I'm re-uploading with different tracks now.

I forgot about T. Gordon's spectacular behind-the-back, one-handed interception against Eastern. Soooo clutch.

Great watch. Anyone remember last years defensive highlights vs Indiana? LOL

This is worthy of a Mattison Point

Was anyone else grinning from ear to ear after watching this video. Last year a defensive highlight film would've been roughly 1-2 minutes long. Now we have a defensive highlight film that is the equivalent of a full quarter of football.A big shout out to Defense 132, you guys played your asses off and made everyone who supports the Maize and Blue proud of you. Thank you Coaches Hoke, Mattison, Montgomery, Smith, Wellman, etc...... for giving our defensive seniors the coaching and confidence they have been lacking and for making sure they leave this university knowing they were a "Michigan" defense.
FWIW, my personal favorite highlight is Kovacs goal line tackle against EMU, but Martin plowing through the Nebraska wide receiver block, like he wasn't even there is a close second.

My favorite are the 3 plays to end the first drive of the second half against Illinois. I haven't seen us have 3 plays that dominant since '97...no joke.
Play #1 - Desmond Morgan ROCKING the Illinois RB
Play #2 - Jake Ryan shedding a block and destroying the Illinois QB, who gets off the pitch...no worries because Coach Kovacs takes PERFECT outside/in contain and not only forces the RB to try to cut inside, but also makes the tackle with help from Martin.
Play #3 - Ryan Van Bergen and his buddies DESTROY the Illinois OLine and get the sack as RVB rides the Illinois QB down to the ground.
Those 3 plays were so textbook. It wasn't just the fact that we were better...it wasn't just a great playcall. It was everything you'd ever want to see in a defense for 3 plays in a row. They couldn't have be executed any better. That is when Michigan Defense - was back.

to think that many on this blog thought that a top 50 finish on D was highly unlikely let alone a top 16.
December 17th, 2011 at 11:40 AM ^
Watch that, then answer this question: how many of you concluded after the first one-and-a-half drives of the Western game that this defense would be terrible again?
I know I did. And I couldn't feel dumber.
December 18th, 2011 at 9:04 AM ^
Yeah I was worried.
December 17th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
It felt like a Kovacs highlight reel, with RVB as the supporting actor, and cameos by just about everyone else on the team.
Has anyone else noticed how our D-Line (both interior and ends) uses a shoulder dip move to get by the blockers? I just don't remember seeing this last year. Some of the close up plays have Roh and Heininger getting by their guys by keeping their inside shoulder low and balancing their way by the o-line.

Brady Hoke dubstep... I'm speechless.
December 17th, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
but I didn't see the play where Mike Martin destroyed some runningback who was trying to pass block him.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
That was Coker. Play makes me giggle.
December 17th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
I found it at 8:16
December 17th, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
Actually... I don't think it's weird after watching this video.

BUT I think a video that DOESNT include every run stop would be better. Maybe a 5ish minute video with the fumbles, sacks, picks, and sick ass hits!
December 18th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
It's unfortunate that there are so many more people who know exactly how to make sick ass videos than sick ass videos.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
this video is awesome, thank you!
[ED:BISB - For those of us who read this interblog at work, we appreciate it when the boobz pics are kept to a minimum]

Kovacs was everywhere! How did he not win any awards? What more does this guy have to do to prove himself.

Every time he makes a play (and even when someone else does), Kovacs waves his arms or pumps his fists. Gotta love that energy. I think he's going to provide excellent leadership on that defense next year.
As an interesting contrast, compare to RVB. He doesn't fist pump, but his body language says "this is what we do." Love that swagger. We will miss him and Martin an awful lot.
Thanks Boyz. This video is like Christmas coming early.

Gave me goosebumps numerous times!

So nice to be able to have one of these again.

After the past three years I was like..
De-fen-sive High-lights?? What is thiss?? Me no UNDerstand?
December 17th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Annnnnd I love the music. Very well done. HOWEVER, and maybe I'm the only person who thinks this way, but it would have been even better with the game commentary instead of music. Something about people's spontaneous reactions in sports just gets me going I guess. Well done in spite of my needless opinion.
December 18th, 2011 at 12:22 AM ^
I agree. I like the game commentary. But whatever - it's awesome regardless.
So many great plays. I think my favorite is at 12:02. It's 2nd and 25, so Braxton Miller assumes it's safe to run a QB draw. Nope! Van Bergen devours him in the backfield.

The music and highlights match up so well.
December 18th, 2011 at 1:42 AM ^
One of my favorite stats is that we had no defensive safeties from like 2002(?)-2011 and then we forced 2 in 2011. What a strange feeling it is to see this dee-fence
December 18th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
More great stuff from Boyz. Man, someday I'm going to have to buy you a beer.

What a fun defense to watch!
