Mitch McGary Announcement Open Thread Edit: Spoiler - It's Michigan
5 pm, ESPNU. Leave work early, program the dvr, pop the popcorn, and get ready for tremendous joy followed by raining muppets, or soul (and dong) crushing diappointment. Don't want to count any chickens....but you know you'll be watching. Go Blue Mitch!
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
they wait until the end of the show to have him announce, so I'm guessing it'll be close to as long as the Cullen Christian one.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
the Cullen Christian announcement press conference will be wrapping up any moment now.

I'm telling you that Dorsey kid is a lock! Wait.....wut?
Sorry - wrong thread.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
Has anybody heard anything about him lately?
No. I am not serious.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
Does anybody know what channel espn-u is? I'm already anxious, I really hope I can throw this in my duke alumnus cousins face.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
in the Ann Arbor area.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
didn't think I even had it. (Edit: Channel 708 on Comcast) Also got it programmed to record on my other TV. And of course I'll be tuned in at 5:00. I'm getting real anxious now. You'd think after all these years I'd be more relaxed about this. I've followed almost all the big battles over top prospects, all the way back to Magic Johnson and Clark Kellogg. It goes both ways, but I have a good feeling about today. Go Blue!
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Does anyone know of a live online stream of the announcement? I need to see this!

Thanks!

Call me a pessimist, but with the overwhelming majority saying it's going to be UM, and the fact that McGary has been been pretty private about the whole situation I'm just getting a bad feeling. We know his coach like UM and his parents like Duke. We know what Mitch has said in his blogs, but I think all of the pro-UM sentiment is simply conjecture and guesses. I give us a 60% shot right now, but I'm ready for both possiblities tonight. Ultimate i think having GRIII in the class is what pushes him to commit to UM.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
You're pessimistic, yet you think he'll be pushed to UM? What are you a Duke fan?
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
I just get the sense that most people think that MM is already a done deal. I explained myself poorly before. I think having GRIII gives us slightly better odds (60%) but I still think there's a very good chance he picks Duke and it's not as definite as a lot of journalists have made it seem. I did a very bad job of explaining that before.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Sorry, nothing to see here.
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
An hour and 15 minutes early? More than likely an hour and 45 minutes early?
Ya'll need some jobs and shit, man.

and that our Texan friend realizes that "sence" is not a word...
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
And from now on stop playing with yourself.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
DONE!! SENCE IS NOT A WORD!!!!! thanks buddy LOL
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
Any chance he announces before 5:45? I'll be in transit thereafter and would like to know before I leave work. Maybe I should call him to ask him to move the press conference along . . .
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
I really hope he goes Blue because I'll have nothing else to do today besides work - I hate that!
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
I want to see Mitch breaking backboards at Crisler!

Pretty funny reading from ESPNHS...
http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/boys-basketball/
They have the final pitch from fellow commits from three final schools.
The following quote from GRIII caught my attention...
You’ll get so much more attention here. We’ve got a great academic reputation, of course, and we’ve got some of the best looking girls in the country. Everything that you want and need is here at Michigan.
I am guessing GRIII really has not spent much time on the campus...
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
I am guessing GRIII has not spent much time on other campuses. Michigan's girls could be some of the best looking if you don't have other college girls to compare to. But for me, after visiting Ole Miss, it's all downhill from there.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
I've visited a couple SEC schools now, and have found the girls to be quite overrated. They are definitely more friendly down there, but really nothing special in terms of looks.
The problem Michigan has is that there are very few blonde girls. For someone who didn't even look at brunettes before coming to school here, it definitely took some adjusting. Once I started looking at the brunettes, I realized that there are actually some very attractive girls.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
Brunettes > Blondes >>>> Fake Blondes.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
The biggest difference is the amount of time girls in the South spend getting ready for even the most mundane of occurrences. Putting on a dress will give (almost) any girl at least a +1 bump from yoga pants, uggs, and hoodie.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
As a brunette female, I had the same problem - not enough blonde guys. And not enough hot guys. Not enough guys with great bodies, or even better, body builders. Not enough guys who wore muscle t's or mesh tank tops or who spent a ton of time working on themselves. But after I came to school here, I realized that you could just close your eyes and pretend you were with a hot quarterback. Oh, it took a 12-pack to get to that point. But I got there.
(Is this where I put that slash S thing?)

I don't care if you double posted. That was funny enough to upvote twice.

and I visited him a few times...In all honesty, I'm amazed that any top midwest recruits end up staying home.

Please see it.

Compared to Duke, Michigan looks like a boner-inducing smorgasbord.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
I believe this should be the university's new marketing slogan.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Oh c'mon, while we're never going to be the Arizona schools we have some good lookers on campus. It's not like we're Michigan Tech
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
Or Kettering.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
That's because Michigan Tech doesn't have ANY girls.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
They have 2 now, but one is actually a guy. Good luck figuring out which one.
November 3rd, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Every school has good looking girls, but some have more than others. A star athlete is likely to have more contact with the best looking girls on campus. The rest of us? Well, we hit the parties and have 7, maybe 18 beers and then they all look the same anyway!
November 3rd, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
For those of you that have access to the WatchESPN app on iOS and Android, you can watch ESPNU on there. I'm not sure if it will be available on http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index, but it's worth a try.
