Mitch McGary Announcement Open Thread Edit: Spoiler - It's Michigan

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

5 pm, ESPNU.  Leave work early, program the dvr, pop the popcorn, and get ready for tremendous joy followed by raining muppets, or soul (and dong) crushing diappointment. Don't want to count any chickens....but you know you'll be watching. Go Blue Mitch!

didn't think I even had it.  (Edit:  Channel 708 on Comcast)  Also got it programmed to record on my other TV.  And of course I'll be tuned in at 5:00.  I'm getting real anxious now.  You'd think after all these years I'd be more relaxed about this.  I've followed almost all the big battles over top prospects, all the way back to Magic Johnson and Clark Kellogg.  It goes both ways, but I have a good feeling about today.  Go Blue!

Call me a pessimist, but with the overwhelming majority saying it's going to be UM, and the fact that McGary has been been pretty private about the whole situation I'm just getting a bad feeling.  We know his coach like UM and his parents like Duke.  We know what Mitch has said in his blogs, but I think all of the pro-UM sentiment is simply conjecture and guesses.  I give us a 60% shot right now, but I'm ready for both possiblities tonight.  Ultimate i think having GRIII in the class is what pushes him to commit to UM.

I just get the sense that most people think that MM is already a done deal.  I explained myself poorly before.  I think having GRIII gives us slightly better odds (60%) but I still think there's a very good chance he picks Duke and it's not as definite as a lot of journalists have made it seem.  I did a very bad job of explaining that before.

Any chance he announces before 5:45?  I'll be in transit thereafter and would like to know before I leave work.  Maybe I should call him to ask him to move the press conference along . . .

Pretty funny reading from ESPNHS...

http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/boys-basketball/

They have the final pitch from fellow commits from three final schools.

The following quote from GRIII caught my attention...

You’ll get so much more attention here. We’ve got a great academic reputation, of course, and we’ve got some of the best looking girls in the country. Everything that you want and need is here at Michigan.

I am guessing GRIII really has not spent much time on the campus...

I've visited a couple SEC schools now, and have found the girls to be quite overrated. They are definitely more friendly down there, but really nothing special in terms of looks.

The problem Michigan has is that there are very few blonde girls. For someone who didn't even look at brunettes before coming to school here, it definitely took some adjusting. Once I started looking at the brunettes, I realized that there are actually some very attractive girls.

The biggest difference is the amount of time girls in the South spend getting ready for even the most mundane of occurrences. Putting on a dress will give (almost) any girl at least a +1 bump from yoga pants, uggs, and hoodie.

As a brunette female, I had the same problem - not enough blonde guys. And not enough hot guys. Not enough guys with great bodies, or even better, body builders. Not enough guys who wore muscle t's or mesh tank tops or who spent a ton of time working on themselves. But after I came to school here, I realized that you could just close your eyes and pretend you were with a hot quarterback. Oh, it took a 12-pack to get to that point. But I got there.
