“Michigan is the school I wanted to go to my whole life, and I just love the University of Michigan." Straight from the horse's mouth. We would have a great chance to pick him up if T Rich backs out or Reeves picks someone else.

Which makes me ask the question: Why isn't he already committed?

It brings up thoughts of the unseemlier side of recruiting. Some of these kids are getting pulled this way and that by people who don't have their best interests in mind. Not saying this is going on with Yuri, just that I find the quote a little puzzling

Didn't the staff tell Armani Reeves that they want one more "elite" corner? With more and more people viewing Anthony Standifer as a CB/S tweener, it would make sense that the staff would go after a true corner that is the claiber of Reeves or Wright if they have the room.

I know the sites haven't picked up on him yet (except Lemming/Maxpreps who has him in the top 100), but Standifer is a very good CB.  He's got size, speed and skills.  He might not be "elite" but he's really good.  Look at how picky ND has been able to be with CBs in this class and they had an offer to him as well.

about the coaches thinking Standifer is more suited for safety rather than a quality judgment?  And perhaps seeing the incoming class months after their commitments, they know they've lost Kellen Jones and may see a projected DB has physically developed in a way that may make him more helpful as an LB.  And since they've got good LBs lined up for the next year, why not find another CB now?

Pure speculation, of course.

Great point, however I don't think I'd necessarily take that into account. Yuri is the same approximate height and weight as Standifer. If they have good hips, I'd imagine Mattison will keep them at corner. Maybe I'm wrong, but the corners won't have as much safety help in the 4-3 as they did last year. If they're 6+ feet, it should greatly help us in one on one situations where the corner and wr are off on their own. With that said, it will be nice to see them line up in the same time zone as the wide receiver this year.

on the georgia boards are pretty confident about yuri...colorodo and rutgers are also other players. He plans on taking an official to michigan though and these comments are encouraging, no doubt.

Yea Georgias the other team he's high on and also getting an official besides Michigan, and of course Rutgers is right there in his backyard so of course they're recruiting the heck out of him. But clearly Michigan is his best offer by far.

that we could be better off with corners the size of Yuri and Armani. I like t-rich but am slightly concerned over his speed in relation to size. I know #2's don't come around often, and that our recent history with tall corners is less then stellar, but if you hit on a 6'+ corner the results are much better then a 5'9" guy with avg. speed

It might be better overall to take Yuri over Terry, but it would undermine Hoke's recruiting strategy of first one to commit gets the spot. The coaches have to remain committed to the player if the player is committed to them. Otherwise what incentive is there for a kid to commit early to Hoke if he knows the coaches like him.

I like Yuri over Richardson as well. I don't think it undermines Hokes recruiting at all though. Terry said he commited, but since said he's now iffy with other visit talk. That means not committed to me and the coaching staff has to look out for themselves. If he isn't 100% Michigan then move on. I personally think Richardson will be gone which is fine by me, because I like Yuri and others better anyway. Don't force an issue because friends committed and that's where you're from. If he wants attention so bad and to look around, by all means, go ahead. Michigan will be just fine with of without Terry Richardson.

I thought Reeves is under 6'0?  Standifer, if he stays at corner, would fit the height requirement you're talking about.

If you go back further, we have had some great +6'0 corners like that Woodson guy.

both ESPN and Scout reported that Leonte Carroo committed to Rutgers. While this probably doesn't hurt Michigan to much (though he did have an offer I believe) he is a teammate of Wright's.

From what's been said by TomVH, this really has nothing to do with Richardson. This is not an either Yuri or Terry proposition. I realize that we have an incessant need to speculate, but it seems like there is no need in this case. We seem to want them both. Good for us.

I understand your version may be slightly more logical, in terms of a timeline-based version of the articulation of events, than the poster's version of the story that you replied to. But, unless you have some first-hand knowledge of the coaches' decision making, how can you so demonstratively say, "I am absolutely right, and you are absolutely wrong"?

...if Wright has always wanted to come to Michigan, and he's that highly rated, why the disconnect until just recently?  Seems like it should have happened months ago, or at least more mutual interest along the way.

I don't understand why everybody is saying we should definately not pick up another corner in this class.. If we can put two shut down corners together on the field at one time, how is that not a good thing. Even if Richardson stays I say we pick this guy up.
