Haha.....suspending a player for the Spring Game is one of the most hilarious things I've heard in a while.
Attaboy, Mark!
April 28th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
But I mean, he was only cruising around with an unregistered firearm. What's the big deal? He was out probably trying to prevent crime!
Sheesh, this board is always jumping to conclusions!
April 28th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
Er, it was a registered firearm.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
Don't let facts get in the way of a overused meme
April 28th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
My bad!
April 28th, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
the more pertinent question may be, why does he feel the need to carry a registered firearm around on MSU's campus? how many 19 year old kids have firearm permits?
April 28th, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
given the criminal history of his teammates, maybe packing heat isn't a bad idea.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
Haven't you been paying attention to the types of people on his team? You'd carry too if you had to practice, socialize, and live with those people
What do you mean 'those people'...oh, Sparties, nevermind. Carry on.

In order to obtain a concealed weapons permit in Michigan you have to be at least 21 years of age. How does he have one if he is 19 years of age?
I even checked Ohio's laws which are the same, since he is from Ohio and all.
Just because a gun is registered (owned by the original buyer who filled out the proper paper work), doesn't mean he can carry it. You must have a CCW (concealed carry weapons permit) to have the gun in your possession while it is loaded and concealed.
In Michigan a CCW is no longer tied to one gun, it is tied to the person who took the certification class; and they may carry any gun that is lawfully registered.
As with most Spartans, is he older having served a few years in jail before college?
April 28th, 2011 at 12:48 PM ^
He was born in 1988.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
Even if the gun is registered, he has a duty to let the officer know about the gun as soon as the officer makes contact with him. This is so the officer isn't surprised when they find the gun in the vehicle. BTW, what does he need a gun in E. Lansing for exactly?
April 28th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
One of the first lessons they teach you at Michigan State is that nothing bad can ever come from a concealed weapon. Just ask Plaxico Burress.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
Having lived there for a couple of years, probably to keep the jersey chasers at bay.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:23 AM ^
you may get 98 days in jail but hell at MSU all you have to miss is a scrimage - well done sparty
April 28th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
Do we expect anything else givin the track record of dicipline there?
April 28th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
nope it's exactly what we expect and that's what makes it even more hilarious

Last Sunday at our church the Head Coach of Bucknell Wrestling spoke about how he had turned his life around. He talked about how right before his senior year at MSU he was charged with 3 counts of Possesion with intent to Deliver MJ.
He wasn't immediately thrown off the team, but was told that if he was still facing a felony he would not be attending school any longer. In a meeting with the DA his lawyer mentioned lowering to misdimeanors. DA said, 1 maybe, 2 doubtful, but 3 no way.
(Insert Church part here)
By trial date it wasn't 3 counts, it was one misdimeanor and he was a B10 Champion his Sr year.
I'm not bagging on Wirnsberger, just showing that Sparty did this long before Dantonio got there
April 28th, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
It is pretty obvious that no MSU player will miss a game unless incarcerated. I guess Dantonio sees crime as teaching moments. Kids do stupid things sometimes, but what goes on in EL is beyond pathetic.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
I don't get it. In what universe does it make sense to not tell a police officer you have a licensed weapon? What reason is there not to disclose that information? All you have to do is say, "Just FYI, I have a licensed concealed weapon in my car right now."
April 28th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
Considering he was driving on a suspended license, I think rationale thought was not was on his strong suits.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
If you have gone to the effort to get the license, all you need to do is mention it as soon as you can to the officer.
Without a CCW, which he didn't have, unless it was properly stored in his trunk, is still a illegal.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
Fortunately, we can rely on the Freep to take a righteous stand against this gross corruption -- Not!
Did you just slip in a "Not" joke there? When I was 10, my Michigan friends and I had t-shirts made that said "Go State!" on the front and "Not!" in big letters on the back. We were the coolest...that was over 20 years ago though.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
Mark and MSU belong together, I hope he coaches there forever.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
I get the impression that his interview went something like this:
"What would you do if one of your best players was sent to jail, and was released the day of a game."
"Was he released before the start of the game?"
"Yes."
"Play him. Duh."
"Ok, great. What if it was a backup, and you had an opportunity to make an example of him."
"Play him. Duh."
"Alright, sounds like we're on the same page... Sign here."
April 28th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
That Dantonio guy sure is a disciplinarian, huh? /s
April 28th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Even though these transgressions should count toward the Fulmer Cup, so much of Sparty's criminal activity takes place during the season (and, therefore, doesn't count toward FC) that it seems appropriate for a well-respected site like this to create a Dantonio Cup (to include in-season arrests).
April 28th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
The Fulmer Cup doesn't give the total picture, MSU has the timing down.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
April 28th, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
To be fair, these things sting like crazy when you make good contact.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
that's what she said.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
They also work as fantastic beer/wine/liquor bongs. Just stick the glass bottle into the hole.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
What sick sadistic bastard came up with that yellow jagged one? That thing would hurt like hell.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
Those are actually the least painful. Less surface area for the slap, and the spines compress a bit when they make contact.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
BlockM, do we even want to venture a guess as to why you have such vast knowledge of the noodle...?
I thought everyone had FUN-oodle fights as a kid? Or if your AAAmich as an adult using it as a beer bong.
April 28th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
As long as Dantonio keeps slapping the wrist of his players, the players will continue to keep getting in trouble. Dantonio is lenient it's almost like he's encouraging his players to keep getting in trouble with the law.
You've created a cycle of disobedience, Dantonio, and it's just going to keep getting worse.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
that there are no MSU folks who realize this. Some of us do.
I see Saint Dantonio as an enabler. He may not encourage criminal behavior, but he certainly ls quick to let anyone who can help back on the team ASAP.
Maybe they should call it the Dantonio Cup instead of the Fulmer Cup.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
'Cause every second chance deserves a second chance.
April 28th, 2011 at 12:24 PM ^
I don't see a big deal with this one. We're talking about a citation and a low level misdemeanor. I can't say driving on a suspended license is the right thing to do but what further punishment would you want?
The firearm doesn't bother me. He should have let the officer know and he'll pay a fine but he obtained it legally and if he has the proper identification, then I don't see an issue there. I own several guns and I'm pretty old school about firearm laws. He should have been thinking better though, for sure.
The fighting is a much bigger issue since you can do harm to others. Driving on the suspended license though is pretty stupid. Even if he suspends him for a game, the kid would just sit on the bench as usual. We're talking about a guy that recorded 6 tackles?
April 28th, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
The rational Sparty? They make those?
April 28th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
this should bother you. His license will be revoked, and he's lucky it's only for 6 months. I can't think of one good reason to not be forthcoming, and people who do dumb shit like this make it harder on the gun owners who do things the right way.
