I live in the NWA (ntNWA) Northwest Arkansas near the campus. I like the hire. The UA basketball program has done well, but can do better. The infrastructure is in place (gorgeous campus and area, strong fanbase, money, etc.). I'm hoping it takes them to the next level.

The basketball operations at…

The basketball operations at Arkansas topped $11 million, 7th in the SEC, and roughly half of UK in 2022. But there is a huge NIL infusion on its way.

8. S Rod Moore - Nose for picks.

I'm trying to determine if this is a compliment or a defining feature. Yes, I'm a dad who loves dad jokes.

The balance is as strong as the depth on this team. I found it interesting that of the first 16 players discussed, 8 are offense and 8 are defense.

Does this mean he will…

Does this mean he will return to MSU in time for their bowl game?

Even though it was a short…

Even though it was a short time ago, I had forgotten UM had so many transfers. I'm a teacher and coach of high school kids and maintaining a stable culture usually revolves around quashing rumors and old grudges LOL. I can't imagine the headaches these coaches have to deal with.

Saw that Hansen signed with UMass

I have vacillated from…

I have vacillated from wanting UM to be more active in the up-front NIL to UM is doing it right. After my initial anger subsided over "losing out on" so many commits, I agree that Harbaugh and UM are doing it right. Like you said, they are taking the money and running. UM is losing out on a few commits because of the up-front money, but I feel they will be better off in the long run.

I heard he hurt his knee?…

I heard he hurt his knee? Maybe an ACL? It's unclear...

I agree. I'm curious, though…

I agree. I'm curious, though, if a team has an egregious amount of departures, like TAMU, for instance, if that kills the culture? I know it's a "time will tell" type question...

Wow! Didn't see that story! Thanks for the link.

I just submitted my resignation and will retire in June! My twins graduate in May. My wife and I are taking the kids and leaving Michigan for the NWA (not that NWA) Northwest Arkansas: Fayetteville to be exact.

Ha! Close! Indiana beat us in a duel meet by more points than we beat them in the championship, so I think they have an argument.

Nah, mostly just enjoy reading what others write and argue about. Love the sport and wanted to give them some recognition.

Can't be relaxing out there! Must survive, lol!

I teach at a high school in a rural district. We just finished our second week face-to-face. I'm happy to report that we are healthy so far and praying it stays that way. Praying for the best for your girlfriend and her district. My wife is an SLP and starts back on Tuesday, too.

Michigan education is going…

Michigan education is going to be interesting. I teach high school in a rural district. We are going back 5 days a week all masked up and ready to go. We have a virtual option, but only a handful of students (parents) opted for that. My wife is an SLP in Oakland County. Her school and many of the large districts around her school have already chosen remote learning for the first 9 weeks.

It will be interesting to see if the schools returning face-to-face show an increase/have an outbreak.

In 2018, there were 490,917 public school students enrolled in Mississippi and 32,311 public school teachers.

.040% infection rate for students and .75% for teachers.

It's still bad, and bound to get worse, but you can see how people can use stats to fit a narrative.

Ok

Never said I was embarassed. The way they lost was embarassing. Any athlete losing that way would agree. FSU deserved it because they didn't crack under the pressure. UM has a great team and much to be proud of. They fought hard to get to this point. It's just disappointing how they lost. I feel bad for them...

What a joke

We handed them that game in about 10 different ways. Story of this team all year. Embarassing.

SC Coach?

Football is a brutal sport, but this is an inordinate amount of ACL injuries. I'm wondering if this calls into question our SC coach?

Thank you!

EMU grad, UM reject (not smart enough to get in). UM fan and all around great guy (that's what my mom says anyway)

Saw what you did there, Exile...

Winning would help...

Winning would help.

Yup

I'm the same way, GB Phil. Debate is great, a lost art. Cogent points by both sides is enjoyable to read. Posters that are castigated, though, for having differing opinions is nauseating.

Opinions...

It's sad that you think you may be banned for stating an opinion that may ruffle some feathers but is at least thought out. I agree with you a bit. I've been around UM football quite a while. I am used to UM winning. When they finished .500 in 1985? you would have thought it was the end of the world. Crappy records are commonplace now, though. I do feel entitled. I hate watching us lose, I'm not used to it, and sometimes the frustration levels come out. Frustration, however, that comes out in posts knows no age...

wow

Sounds painful.

Ethiopians

He cares (cared RIP Sam) about ETHIOPIANS! BECAUSE THEY TRY TO GROW STUFF IN THE SAND! AND NOTHING GROWS IN THE SAND!

Well...

I agree there are many fair-weather fans. It's much easier to cheer for a team that is good. But if you look at many of the "negative" posts, many of the posters have been here for a long time. I've been a UM fan since my childhood and will continue to support my team. We are not fair-weather fans. It's just that many of us allow our passion to get in the way of rational thought sometimes. I know I'm guilty. I've been very spoiled by UM (I remember the one year we went .500 for the first time in forever and people were jumping off cliffs) and this season, the last decade, has really raised my apathy, hell sadness, to unhealthy levels. Think I'll take your advice and just take myself away from the forums for awhile.

BTW, UM swimmers are ranked #1! Yay, non-revenue sports!!!

Now that's funny

Thanks for making me laugh. That is priceless.

Into the Pool

"For every negative play on offense this Saturday, we will run laps...in the outdoor pool!"

One tradition would include awards for biggest splash on cannon ball entries.

We would approach the media and all pressers wearing Speedos (sorry about that visual)

Clubbing

someone with your Philosophy Thesaurus doesn't help either. Have you considered why a coach with so much experience would run a play that has gained nothing over and over again? How about OSU last year giving the game ball to Borges for his pathetic game plan? Maybe our coaching staff, like you, needs to go back to basic thinking instead of trying to impress us all with their bloated intelligence.

Jay Bilas defending refs...

I love punishment so I turned on ESPN. Why is Michigan so hated by those guys? Wow. Jay Bilas said we shouldn't even be talking about the Burke block because Bohannan, screw spelling, was "getting mauled" on every play.

So proud! Youngest team out there. Never gave up. We were beaten by a good team not refs. It hurts now but we were treated to something special this season. What a great team! Go Blue!
Because

people like me, who also could not get into Michigan, are not worthy of rooting for Michigan teams because we didn't get into the school? Get over yourself.

Yup

Niether team had any divers qualify. That's an area Michigan hopes to improve on. They scored points in every swimming event except the 200 back. But there are also 3 diving events that we scored no points in, so we can get better still! Incoming class is strong but we lose 6 national qualifiers to graduation.

National Champions!!!! Drinking Thread?

Still two events to go, but Michigan has it locked. Congratulations Men's Swim Team.

My brother lives in San Fran and shipped two wonderful portions of Pliny the Elder. The first one has been opened. YESSSSSSS!

Oh, and let's go Wichita State! Kick the crap out ohio

Yup.

EMU surveyed 700 Huron Indians 5 said they were offended, so they switched. Go figure. EMU was just a job to me. Commuted for 4 years. I've always loved Michigan, but just wasn't smart enough to get in; hence, the "UM Reject" moniker. I can laugh about now. I still have my rejection letter. It reads like, "Thank you for applying, you weren't even close. Buh-Bye."

HA!

You got me! Class of 94'

Distance Team!!!!

No way! 57 points in swimming at the NC is crazy! Wow! congrats Jaeger national champion in the 500 and the 1650! Missed the record by 3 seconds, but he is only a junior, so look out next year.

Nice side story, Wiscy swimmer wins the 200 back, their first national champion in 54 years. And my Alma Mater Eastern Michigan came up 4th, Hurons, yes!

Michigan is now in firm control..Go Blue!

The Call...

My son and I were listening to it on 950 on the way home. We were sitting at a stop light when he hit it. We were screaming looking forward, turned, continued screaming to each other. Was broken from my euphoria when the light turned green and I didn't know it. The guy behind me obviously wasn't listening. It was great call. I, too, would love to hear it again.

Interesting Prelims

Cal is swimming out of their heads; Michigan, for the most part, is swimming at or near their seed times. It's interesting to see the coache's different philosophies in that Michigan has more talent and is deeper than Cal, but becasue Cal tapered perfectly for this meet and have dudes swimming into points who were nowhere near that with their seed times.

The 1650 is key. As ehatch stated, if Michigan just holds their seeds in the 1650, we should be up 50 going into the remaining events. The remaining events should break down like this:

After the 1650, we will lose points (20 at most) in the 200 back as Cal has an A finalist and Michigan will score nothing.

In the 100free Cal has an A finalist seeded above Michigan's A finalist (on paper we would lose a few points), but we have a B finalist and Cal doesn't, so it should be a wash. We should still be up about 30 points.

Worse case scenario in the 200breast could have us lose 27 points as Cal placed 2 in the A final and 1 in the B final. If Cal goes 2-3 (they won't beat the 1 seed), Funk takes 8th and Cal dude wins the B final, we lose 27 points. So, we should still be ahead regardless, but if it shakes out like that, we would be up about 5 points.

We should gain points in the 200 fly. We are seeded first in the A final, but the Cal dude should win it (he easily won the 100 fly). However, we have 2 A finalists to their 1 so we will outpoint them. We also have a B finalist and Cal does not, so we will gain points.

Niether team has divers, so, yeah.

So, like ehatch said, we are in the A final of the 400 free relay and Cal is in the B final. As long as we don't DQ, we will outpoint them in the event and win the NC!

Thanks to ehatch for posting! Our swim team is incredible and has been for years.

Me Too

Miss being in incredible shape. I've played many sports but swimming killed me. The 2 a-days for 3 straight months were murder/great! Not nearly good enough to swim on the college level. Love watching them because you know how hard they work for very little recognition.

Remaining Events

We should dominate the 1650 with the possiblity of outscoring Cal by 30+ points. They will outscore us in the 200back, we should outscore them in the 100 free. In the 200 breast, Funk is our only rep. We need him to score some points as Cal has 4 reps, ouch. The 200 fly should be a wash. We are seeded higher in the 400 free relay. Neither team has divers so Platform is a wash. So, we have to take care of business in the prelims. If we do, Michigan wins the national championship. The finals are on ESPN 3

Swimming! Yes!!!!

We are well represented in the remaining events, as is Cal. The preliminary swims will be incredibly important in the morning session. Cal has more possible points over us in 3 events and we have more possible points over Cal in 3 events. As long as we take care of business in the preliminary swims, all should go well. The key event may be event # 15, the 1650! Michigan has an incredibly rich history in distance events with this year being no different. Go Blue!!!

What a Day!!!!!

Great win from a team with so much heart! They may be a young team, but, wow, they don't look like it! UM Swimmers going for national championship tomorrow, too!!!!

You should study!

That's how I became a UM Reject, Wal-mart Wolverine. The beer was better than the study! On second thought, have one for me too!

JOY!!!

I usually just hang out and read the blog, but I'm here for the POSBANGS!!!!! Wooooo! Michigan Swimmers up 30 going into the last day tomorrow. Poised to win the national championship!

Agreed...

I follow recruiting but I didn't know the identity of the first pic. Who is it? Can you imagine he and Mario next to each other?

First Impressions

It's great to see the amount of talent with interest in UM. I'm glad the coaches were able to fill much of the offensive needs early so they concentrate the remaining schollies on d. I can't wait to see what Mattison et al will do the talent coming in. I'm most interested to see the epic battles forthcoming at the lineback position if we land a second straight year of beasts!

UM Reject is not deragatory towards UM. It refers to my inability to get into UM out of my stupidity in high school. Now a high school teacher, I spend lots of time helping students make the right choices to get into places like UM.

Thanks, Manchild!

Thanks so much for posting this, manchild! I would have but I am a lowly man of few mgopoints. Our men's swimming program is arguably one of the most successful sport's program at the University of Michigan. What is scary is that once we land some top flight divers, we will be a perennial swimming powerhouse nationally!

A word to the Mgo community. My monicker, umreject, is not a negative towards the university, rather a constant reminder to myself to try harder. I screwed around in high school and though I grew up loving UM, I wasn't good enough to get in, hence the reject. (I received my undergrad and masters down the road at EMU). Now I'm a high school teacher and espouse just how important it is to get into a great university.

Go Blue!
