More great news!

For the first time in the storied history of Michigan Swimming & Diving, the Wolverines have captured the 200yd Medley Relay NCAA National Championship.

Miguel Ortiz, Bruno Ortiz, Sean Fletcher and Zachary Turk set FOUR records in the win. A NCAA National record, an NCAA Championships record, a school record and a US Open record! 1:22.27 was the time.

Michigan has slim lead with one day left in the NCAA Championships. The finals will be tomorrow. Michigan leads with 336 points. cal trails them with 301.5 points.

Would be an astounding feat and the first NCAA Championship since 1995.

was far superior to the ESPN3 coverage later.  ESPN didn't seem to be aware, or care, that some viewers might be interested in who finished third (or 4th-8th).  [I suspected Michigan came in third in at least one event, I think two, but didn't know for sure until they put them on the boxes for their awards.]  The streamed coverage is obviously meant for people who care about swimming, with graphics and audio so you know what's going on.  [The prelim stream was archived, so I could watch most of them before the finals.]

We should dominate the 1650 with the possiblity of outscoring Cal by 30+ points. They will outscore us in the 200back, we should outscore them in the 100 free. In the 200 breast, Funk is our only rep. We need him to score some points as Cal has 4 reps, ouch. The 200 fly should be a wash. We are seeded higher in the 400 free relay. Neither team has divers so Platform is a wash. So, we have to take care of business in the prelims. If we do, Michigan wins the national championship. The finals are on ESPN 3

We are well represented in the remaining events, as is Cal. The preliminary swims will be incredibly important in the morning session. Cal has more possible points over us in 3 events and we have more possible points over Cal in 3 events. As long as we take care of business in the preliminary swims, all should go well. The key event may be event # 15, the 1650! Michigan has an incredibly rich history in distance events with this year being no different. Go Blue!!!
