I find everything about this situation to be fascinating and its cool to be able to see what the people in charge of the situation had been thinking about. |

I've surprisingly had some success running the zone read recently. Mainly it's been against the computer and it still doesn't work all that great every game, but I've been able to put up good offensive numbers running it with both Michigan and Oregon's playbooks. Obviously, the blocking for the zone read is way off, so you can't really try to read the DE like a real QB would. So, instead, I try to look for a hole the way the quarterback is supposed to take it. If its there keep the ball, otherwise hand it off. Most of the time I hand it off, but occasionally I can get 7 yards or so when I keep will the QB. Also, mix up the run plays you choose and call some designed hand off, speed options, and the zone read that has the tackle pulling (QB Wrap, I think it's called), though I still hand it off most of the time on this play too. So, it's possible and I'd recommend trying to run it with the Oregon playbook at first which gives more of a variety of plays and formations, like many triple options out of the shotgun. To have success with the triple option, I try to determine if there is room to run outside with the QB and if there isn't then I hand it off right away. Hopefully this helps, though I don't blame you if you don't feel like trying it, because it does take practice to be able to recognize when to keep the ball and when to hand it off. |

If there's one thing I've learned from the way the MSM and even other national blogs have portrayed Rich Rodriguez, it's that it's hard to understand what is actually happening in a program from what the media says about it. |

While I tend to agree with your point, 107 MPH, really? That's ridiculous! There no way he throws anything over 103 and there is absolutely no way he hits it on any kind of consistent basis. As for the move, it's not terrible especially with all of the other young arms in the bullpen that can step in if needed. It's probably better than overpaying for some of the closers available, who seem to be asking for a lot and aren't all that consistent. |

I saw the game. The play that drew the PI penalty was a Hail Mary from about the Brown's 40 where Stafford had to scramble for about 10 seconds, dodging the three man rush, before bombing it to Calvin in the middle of the endzone. The pass was picked off, but Bryant Johnson was being pushed out of the back of the endzone, drawing the flag. Stafford was hit after he threw and was hurt, making the Lions bring in Culpepper until the Brown's stupidly called a timeout, allowing Stafford to come back and throw quick pass to Pettigrew for the TD. |
