Brian, which is/was a bigger pet peeve - refusing to throw bubble screens and take free yards or two first half foul autobench? Inquiring minds...

The only two games I see as near-guarantee losses are @Iowa and @Maryland, every other game Michigan *should* have a fighting chance or be favored.

Michigan should finish the first half of big ten play at 7-2, but it's hard for me to even count two "likely wins' in the second half (only @Minnesota looks like a win).

Penn State played Indiana without their starting QB or RB. I wonder if those two players were any good?
They lost to Northwestern.
They got clobbered by four touchdowns against OSU.
They squeaked by Maryland by one point.
While they may be a talented team, their resume does not instill the same fear or worry that Indiana or MSU did or OSU does. Michigan will take care of business.

My thought is take a gamble on Mo Wagner's upside. Play him as many minutes as possible to start the season and hope he develops into something resembling a mini-McGary to compliment Doyle. Donnal has looked atrocious.
All the positions 1-4 on the lineup and coming off the bench look terrific but making a run in the Big Ten or to the NCAAs won't happen without some talent emerging at the 5 and it's not coming from Donnal.

Don't forget the hit by Northwestern player on Rudock's helmet in the first half that was initially called targetting then OVERTURNED BY REPLAY.

My submission titled "Leave The Offense On The Field We're Going For It".
With all due respect to the immense writing talents of Heiko and Nick, Brady Hoke is not walking through that door.
There are a host of Michigan fans (rightly so) traumatized by the past. Well not here, not today.
Mighty Meeeechigan is installed by Vegas as a near touchdown favorite. There's a reason for this! Mormon Touchdown Jesus doesn't wake up by noon Eastern Standard Time (and he's actually been quite overworked so far this season). Jake "Don't Call Me Shirley" Rudock will stand tall in the pocket and deliver throws as of yet unseen as the whispers of an NFL first rounder BYU defensive tackle are just that, whispers. Ty Isaac and DeVeon Smith will take turns running over outmatched BYU linebackers as Michigan sustains drives with aplomb that would make even Lloyd crack a curmudgeonly smile.
Today is the day.
Jabrill Peppers is going to truck an unsuspecting slot receiver so hard on a third down that BYU has no choice but to stand aside and let him march down the field for a punt return on the following play.
Rashan Gary will witness an absolute devastating DLine attack from the Wolverines and know, deep down inside, he's next.
There will be a moment, probably in the second quarter, when the stripes miss an unspeakably obvious pass interference call. But every player, every coach, every one of the one-hundred thousand fans, and Coach's clipboard will know what happens next. I don't even have to say it. But it will *work*.
A peace and calm will come over the stadium from the resultant tirade. Order will be restored.
Zero turnovers. Four offensive touchdowns. One punt return TD. One more rousing chorus of The Victors and the faithful are rewarded and the traumatized shall once again know the feeling of domination.
Michigan 35, BYU 14.

Splitting my time between BLL and MGoBlog pre-season posts.
Just read the chapter on the tennis team. Oh. My. God. I thought I despised DeBord back when he was just Al Borges of the Carr regime. What a crony.

The best thing Izzo did this March was get into a region that didn't contain Kentucky, Duke, Wisconsin, Arizona, or Gonzaga.
That Virginia squad just collapsed under the pressure in March (start 28-1, finish 2-3). That Georgia team's best win was a 9-point loss to Kentucky, they beat no one all year.
I don't have confidence in either Oklahoma or Louisville to finish the job, either.

Michigan did hold Wisconsin to their lowest regulation points total (57) in Big Ten play and their second lowest regulation points total on the season. The UM defense is bordering on legit.

No way Walton gets that few minutes a game. Last night he had 24 minutes only because he was in foul trouble from the get go and that will not happen but once in twenty games.
LeVert/Irvin/Walton are going to be out there the entire game if it allows. What you'd like to see develop over the season is Doyle, Chatman and Donnal to play well enough to eat into Spike's minutes, relegate Max to the bench and to cover for any of the big 3 that happen to get into foul trouble on a given night.
LeVert - 38

I'll advocate for the Air Force game. Michigan won 31-25 but was one fourth-and-goal stand from being down with a couple minutes to play (AF tried some wonky fake field goal).
And Michigan's only offense that entire game came from Denard juking out the entire AF defense on two 70 yard TD runs. (Go re-watch those runs on the highlights, well worth it)
|1 year 13 weeks ago||2015||
It's going to be a growing pains year compared to the last two years of basketball we've been spoiled with. There will be ugly losses and they won't win any championships but they will make the tournament and are building towards a dynamite 2015 year.

Penn State being awful and the bye week offered a nice feel-good reprieve from an otherwise historically bad season. However, it was more sleight-of-hand than reality and this week reality bites.
|1 year 16 weeks ago||So you're saying he had a||
So you're saying he had a solid year in his first year as a starter under the tutelage of RichRod where Denard was put in a position to succeed and then both years under Hoke he was asked to do things he couldn't do and didn't develop.
Denard was never going to play QB in the NFL but he could have absolutely dominated the college game as an upperclassman but was never afforded the opportunity.
