All great stuff. The Wolverine Walk would be pretty cool to see and would connect the athletic campus to the big house. I like the idea of the numbers on the press box. Would be cool to honor legends like Woodson/Howard. Oklahoma has a Statue garden. I’ve always wanted to see something similar.
Have you seen the game day locker rooms In the big house? Pretty basic and not in the same league as most of the other stuff out there. Usually it’s a big display area when recruits view the Big House. I don’t think it’s been updated since the mid 2000s.
I remember seeing posts about people not renewing their tickets during the RR and Hoke eras. I thought, how could you ever even think about doing that. You should be lucky you have them. Fast forward 6 years and I’m not even sure I want to spend 4 hours watching them on TV. Forget loyalty and that Harbaugh and Warde are friends. At some point you have to look at this from a financial standpoint point. Attendance will suffer going forward with Harbaugh as coach. The athletic department depends on football revenue and we are a deflated ballon right now. Take some advice from the lions.....
It concerns me he didn’t say this after the Michigan State game. This is what he is supposed to say when we lose big. Unfortunately Jim has lost the fan base.
All we needed was a first down vs Iowa and OSU at the end of both games in 2016 but couldn’t get it. Little did we know then it was the beginning of the end.
Someone once told me their Michigan fandom is a religion. I think it’s more of a sickness. There isn’t one Michigan fan right now who can be positive about what’s happening with this football team. Even Cody who checked in Herbstreet to his hotel was upset. So to answer your question, yes, please, let’s close this chapter on Michigan football and move on to bball season. I have a feeling Covid will delay that for us though...
This has always been my biggest fear. The solid unshakable fan based gets shook. I remember an article from RR years how attendance remained strong even when the product on the field was challenged. Back then there was always hope. Doesn’t feel like we have much of that anymore and I think fans are starting to understand we are much more like Tennessee vs Bama. WM is going to face a huge decision that will have major long term financial ripples on the entire athletic department if he gets it wrong.
People like us realize there are other things to do on Saturdays in the fall. Stop spending stupid amounts of money at the Mden. Big house averages 85k a game. I don’t pass the love of this on to my kids.
My biggest question is why have we had so many transfers and early outs. Are we promising playing time or setting the wrong expectations? Something that has always bothered me was a string of tweets from former recent players when Hill didn’t get drafted last year. They all seemed to imply there was a reason for it and tea leafs pointed to the staff. Next biggest question, WHY DID AUBRY SOLOMEN LEAVE.
Manuel is buddies with Harbaugh and will eventually end up giving him an extension. I’m sure given Covid, Harbaugh will be given a pass for this year. Even if they decided to end it this year I have a feeling the “Michigan Man” criteria will be a factor in his coaching search.
The logic of “this was always going to be a 5-4 season anyways” works if we are coming off a great year where we overachieved, but we are in year 6 with only a Citrus Bowl victory to show for it.
Year 6 and I still find myself being puzzled by multiple coaching decisions. Like why run the wildcat and take out your running QB. Or why continue to run man, or why waste 3 minutes at end of the game. I don’t think this gets any better from here. Time to start over.
At this point Don Browns commitment to man coverage is laughable. Keeping other teams honest with a mix of different coverages would make sense, however after watching the replay he rarely mixes things up. I remember back in 2016 vs Wisconsin where Jordan Lewis made that amazing one handed interception. I always thought, why was Don Brown running 1 on 1 coverage on 4&15 up 7 points? Answer: It’s all he is ever going to do, no matter the personnel or situation.
Well this was fantastic and the best info I’ve seen on here in awhile. I had a few things I wanted to ask if you’re still answering questions.
1) Do you think the flashy facilities plays a big factor? Yes the new renovations look good however I would still would rank us outside of the top ten in the country. Most places have truly innovative facilities, I’d give ours a B. The Woody Hayes Football Center is on another level. I toured the practice locker room in 2008 maybe and I know it hasn’t changed since then, and what is going on with the locker room in the Big House, looks like a visiting locker room.
2) I remember hearing awhile back that Harbaugh has gone to the president several times to have academic standards lowered several times. Is that a major point of frustration for the staff? If so what’s changed since Carr?
3) The main thing here that worries me is organization. You mentioned having 3 leaders who run this side of the program yet we seem to still have things slip through the cracks.
Either way great stuff. I’ve been a fan of recruiting since Joey Harrington was on the cover of NCAA.
