"It's a lot easier being a drug dealer than an AAU coach" - this guy. Tell me something I don't know. I mean, don't think but have never tried either.

This is really, really reaching. It smacks of an inferiority complex. He left out an "n" in his name? Guess what, even though Meyer coaches OSU, he is human. Pick more worthwhile things to make fun of Meyer about.

UM will start the season 0-0. You can bet all the marbles on that.

9 are headed to Alabama. 6 + 9 = 15, 15 = ~25% of 62. A quarter of the kids already committed are going to either Alabama or Clemson.
|2 days 22 hours ago||Yeah, I dont know. I am not||
Yeah, I dont know. I am not sure its so much about scholarship #s but more about exposure, primariy national TV coverage, perhaps secondarily internet coverage on sites such as ESPN. The more popular programs get more coverage, and the more those teams win, the more coverage they get. And then the more popular they become wth recruits. Its a vicious cycle, and I have no idea how to fix that.

I am not "hand-wringing" as a Michigan fan, but as a fan of college football. I think broader discussion of the field is allowed here.
|2 days 23 hours ago||If you mean the changes||
If you mean the changes passed recently, I agree. I havent heard of any other seriously proposed changes, or propositions that have a chance of being passed that relate to parity.
|3 days ago||I get the relationship to||
I get the relationship to on-field performance, but I think it's still somewhat surprising. I think it also raises a question about parity. If ever there was a time when something needs to be done to encourage parity, it seems to be now.

The presence Alabama has on the Rivals list is unnerving. They have also had the #1 class according to Rivals from 2008 - 2015, excluding 2010 (they had #5 class that year). I wonder if throughout history we have ever seen another period of dominance in recruiting that Alabama has accomplished in the past several years?

What reports? I haven't heard anyone say the DL is going to be great or is "that good." They say the defense has a different attitude than last year. And tonight they looked a lot better than the OL (just like last year). I think everyone is in a wait-and-see mode.

I dont agree with a lot of what Brian writes, and have not been shy about expressing this. But he just schooled me on York. I was wrong in my harsh statements, and Brian is right about having empathy for him (while also having sympathy for the victim) and trying to understand a person before dismissing him for a bad decision.

I am not blaming Jones, but he clearly knew the punch was coming.
|1 week 1 day ago||I just get that impression||
I just get that impression from him setting himself up for the punch, from Jones's apparent knowledge that the punch was going to be thrown (suggesting some communication - verbal or non-verbal), and just from the whole of his micro-movements. I obviously could be way off base, which is why I framed my comment as I did. But it just seems like he has taken this approach to potential conflict before. Perhaps not.
|1 week 1 day ago||Sorry, but a close look at||
Sorry, but a close look at the video clearly shows that the punch was premeditated. He set himself up for it at least once before throwing the actual punch. It was not a reaction out of fear. That is clear.

One troubling, yet ancillary, issue is that York's actions look like he has done this sort of thing before. It has no bearing on this incident, but he sure looks like he knew what he was doing (as did Jones).
|1 week 1 day ago||It doesnt matter what was||
It doesnt matter what was going through his head. If he was thinking about shooting the guy, but punched him instead, are we supposed to feel better? Are people supposed to accept a higher level of risk of being attacked based on the childhoods of the people around them? You may think about pushing someone into the path of a moving truck every opportunity you have, but the question is, do you act on it? He needs to be in a place where he can learn impulse control, and not at the cost of unsuspecting citizens.

You point to a blip on the radar that has been identified as Michigan, and then say that Michigan is flying under the radar. I'm a bit confused. The only radar we have right now are these pre-seson BS rankings.
|1 week 2 days ago||I'll withhold from getting||
I'll withhold from getting "heigh" on defense until about game 5 or 6. If we were carrying over a top-rated defense from last year, yeah, we would be justified in a few tokes. But now? I dont think so.
|1 week 3 days ago||I understand talking about||
I understand talking about individual players not living up to their potential in terms of different position groups, such as Green and Thomas. But I dont think we should be pointing to individaul players as being at fault in terms of the OL. At this point, the OL problems extend across years, and seem to be a coaching issue (whether it's technique or culture).
|1 week 6 days ago||How about everyone just not||
How about everyone just not panic at all? Do you know how often the bumblee jerzeys are brought up in conversation outside of fanatic boards like this one? Hardly ever. If you and everyone else are worried about "tradition", worry about the traidition of being a winning football program, a huge part of which invoves attracting recruits. And recruits, kids 15 to 18, love uniformz. Attracting recruits is the one of the most important things for regaining a tradition of winning. We are not Alabama. Unfortunately, we can no longer attract receruits by guaranteeing them wins and bowl games/playoffs. Unfortunately, the AD has to rely on bells and whistles, which old timers, i.e., anyone who was a fan before 2007, tend to find opprobrious. Perhaps that approach will change. I hope that will change.

Was Hutchinson known to be a dick in games or to his teammates (or both)?
|3 weeks 1 hour ago||The author assumes that||
The author assumes that progressive incompetence = chemistry issue, and game-by-game variability does not. Yet, he does not provide any argument as to why game-to-game variance is not related to poor team chemistry. We can have poor team chemistry, yet factors may mask that on a game-by-game basis. Playcalling may mask that. The opponent may mask that. For instance, the team will likely come together to fight for higher level reasons, such as beating State or OSU, but still have general poor chemistry that will plague them in other games. Also, the author seems to discount the relationship between off-the-field chemistry and on-the-field chemistry in terms of playmaking. Which, anyone who has played a team sport will counter.
And the argument that it wasn't just chemistry is a no-brainer. We know its never one variable. That's not an argument. Variables interrelate, and act in concertedly viscious cycles.
In other words, I don't buy the author's arguments. It might not just have been Lewan, but that doesnt mean it wasnt chemistry (plus other factors).

If I could only use this mgoblog machine for other purposes....Hmmm....

"With the exception of Gibbons"
You can't jsut throw out the primary example. Hoke's handling of Gibbons was vastly more questionable than any of Meyer's questionable handling of players. In today's climate of anti-sexual assault, Hoke f-ed that up, royally. And I think it calls his character into question. Although ultimately PR doesnt matter, if you want to say it does, then Meyer has the edge here. Actually, he has the whole blade.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||OSU obviously leads in all||
OSU obviously leads in all relevant categories (PR is irrelevant).
OSU has gone through one coaching change since 2001 (the Fickell year doesnt count). UM has gone through 2 since 2008. OSU brought in a proven winner. UM brought in an unproven coach who is using UM to prove himself. Those are the key differences in terms of where these programs are.

Once I forced myself to read his annoying one-line sentences (did he teach this in his class?), all I took away was a collection of lines that are loosely connected to each other, all trying to make some larger point that its the AD's fault in addition to technology. Which made it all feel like the workings someone who feels he as been wronged by "the system." Next thing you know, Bacon is going to be sending special packages in the mail to the AD.
