What people sometimes forget is that this is Brian's career. If he thinks commentors are hurting the mgoblog brand, he should ban them.
In summary, Dave Brandon is proud of you Brian.

I am surprised by the calls to start Spike. I do like his offensive game, but his defense is epically bad. If Beilein decides Walton can't get the job done, I think Caris will become the starting PG, or at least the one getting the most minutes at point.

Yes, but he's been injured. If Granderson can be had for less than $10M/year, then I say go for it.

The sound goes up because it's a big bowl.
And for big games it is loud: see the 2013 ND game.

Yup, we should totally let students, who have been going to games for just a couple years, take all the best seats. Screw the alums that have donated thousands of dollars and have been attending games for years.
The place is loud enough for big games -- our games against OSU, Indiana, MSU and Duke typically all have great atmospheres. Is Crisler the loudest arena out there? No, but Michigan gives it's students about as good of seats as anyone else, and some of the noise issues, especially comparing Crisler vs Hilton, are due to acoustics and not just the location of the student section.

Utah's basketball program has been much more successful than BYU's over the past 20+ years.
BYU would bring a larger TV audience, but we all know the reason the Pac 10 passed on them - anti-mormonism.

Marketing isn't about football, it's about the other 20-some sports. Michigan football sells itself, but the other sports need help to get people to come to their events. Martin's viewpoint is too football-centric.

Disagree on Spike. Walton is the far superior defender, and that will get him the starting nod.

Delany's just going to throw out these schedules once he brings the Texas and Georgia markets to the BTN with the addition of Rice and Oglethorpe University.

In the old days underclassmen would receive split season tickets if student tickets were oversold. The new policy avoids split tickets while allowing all students to attend most games that they want to.

Like Saban is aware of his not-football related surroundings anyway...although he would help keep Austin weird. That's for sure.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||This is a mistake, at least a||
This is a mistake, at least a PR mistake. Due to the new policy EVERY ticket will be claimed and they'll have hundreds of students denied tickets to every game. If you think students are unhappy now, wait until they are shutout of every other Big Ten game without compensation.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||If this is correct, then||
If this is correct, then there will probably be less double selling not more. It's just making the double selling more transparent. I bet just about every ticket gets claimed though.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||I'll have to edit that. I||
I'll have to edit that. I meant if students are denied tickets they should receive a refund.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||They have NEVER refunded||
They have NEVER refunded students for unused tickets.
The questionable part of it that I see is the potential double selling of tickets.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||I think I did, and then I||
I think I did, and then I received a partial refund after the tickets were issued. I'm not sure why fronting the money is a "key issue"....
|11 weeks 5 days ago||I only received student||
I only received student tickets to half the football games in '97, so I say suck it up students.
I DO think students have a legitimate gripe if they are not refunded for games they cannot get tickets to. It doesn't explicitly say that students won't receive refunds to games not attended in that Daily article, so maybe they will.
Those who are complaining that they've attended every game since they started going to school 25 years ago and Brandon is screwing them over - it sounds like you're likely to get tickets to every game anyway, so stop whining.

It is extremely rare that a team, outside of Alabama, will have 2 Brandon Graham caliber defensive lineman. You're talking about a mid-1st round draft pick that would have been a pro-bowler his rookie year if he hadn't blown out his knee.
I think having 2 All Big-Ten caliber lineman, and 2 solid starters should be the benchmark for Michigan. Michigan is at 0 and maybe 2 right now, and that's the problem. In 2 years, I think this could be a pretty good group, but they are not talented as a group to have so many 2nd and 3rd year players in the regular rotation.

The limo bit was lame and shows Bacon's slanted presentation of the facts.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||I'd be interested how much of||
I'd be interested how much of Michigan's marketing is directed at non-revenue sports vs Football, Basketball and Hockey. You go around town, and most of the ads you see are for Gymnastics, Woman's Basketball and other non-revenue sports. Michigan Stadiums big screens are mostly used to promote non-revenue sports.
My point is, Bacon, Martin and Duderstadt are missing the point regarding marketing. Brandon knows that UM football promotes itself. OTOH, other sports need help, and he's clearly spending money on the non-revenue sports that can attract fans - soccer, gymnastics, woman's basketball.
Martin's comments are especially telling. He didn't ask for a salary, but what Michigan got was an AD that was ambivalent and treated the job like a hobby. Brandon may be a self promoting arrogant ass, but he does care about the program and is heavily involved, and I think has done a very good job, minus some legitimate gripes.

Winston is on pace to never throw an incomplete pass in his college career. Anything less will be a disappointment.

He was a good every down back in 2011, but in 2012 and against CMU he's been average.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Nonsense. I said he's not||
Nonsense. I said he's not going to carry a run-dominated team. That basically means I do not think he's an All-Big Ten running back. Fitz is NOT terrible, and the only way you could think I implied as much is if you live in a binary world where everything is either awesome or sucks.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Overreact much? I didn't say||
Overreact much? I didn't say he was terrible. Just not a guy who's going to carry us.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||I'm with you on Fitz. He'd be||
I'm with you on Fitz. He'd be a good 2nd or 3rd option on a good running team, but his instincts and top end speed are not that great for a guy his size. I don't think you can be a run-first team with him as your primary running back -- at least the 2013 version of Fitz. With that said, I'm not willing to annoit any of the other guys as our savior after only a handful of carries.

Fat Tire is disgusting. Some of their other beers are decent though. I personally wouldn't put them in the top 25.
|20 weeks 5 days ago||Stuart commanded around 3,500||
Stuart commanded around 3,500 men at Gettysburg on day 3. Jackson had over 25,000 men at Chancellorsville. That comparison is silly. JEB could have been a nuisance, but not much more than that on day 3. That's not to diminish Custer's performance at Gettysburg, which is rightly celebrated. Lee had little chance of victory after day 1 and none after day 2. He should have withdrew on day 3, instead he wrecked his army.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Ugh||
People bitch about Martin and Brandon all the time, but they were/are GREAT ADs. They're not perfect, but they made some tough decisions and are leaving the program on solid footing. You see far more Tom Goss' getting hired than competent types like Martin or Brandon.
