CFP Watch Party Finder - Huntsville AL (and elsewhere)
I’m stuck in Huntsville AL on a work trip for the Championship game, and there isn’t a single Alumni Association chapter in Alabama, so I’m struggling to find a good Michigan friendly watch party. Some decent sports bars, but with love to be at one with a critical mass of fellow Wolverines.
The existing sticky Bar Locator thread and map is pretty stale. Feel free to use this thread to find fellow Wolverines in other out of the way places!

My wife is part of the alumni association, and the Louisville chapter is having this. We happen to live right off Shelbyville road and are thinking about going.

That’s one of the closer Alumni Chapters, and it’s a 4.5 hour drive 😬
(I think the closest is Nashville, but that’s still 2 hours away)

Nashville will be at Slider House

I’ll be in Orlando for client meetings Monday through Wednesday. They knew better than to schedule a dinner that night. Anything around that area where I can be around other Michigan fans?

I have friends who are part of the Alumni Association of Central Florida, and they watch the games in Winter Park (20 minutes North of Orlando).
We watch the games with a medium size group with Jim Brandstatter's niece, in the county next to Orlando (Brevard County/Space Coast).
Now, I am having to scramble and find a place to watch the game in Escazu, Costa Rica.
Here is the link to the Alumni Association:
https://alumni.umich.edu/communities-clubs/central-florida/game-watching/
Enjoy the area and if you are still around Sunday or early morning Monday, take the 45 minute trip on 528 West and watch Sunday's 3:00 PM SpaceX Falcon 9 launch, or Monday's United Launch Alliance's 1:45 AM Vulcan launch.

Costa Rica, wow that must be tough.
Anyone watching around Ljubljana? I think it'll be around 4 am on a school/work night :)

I know that there are Michigan alumni in Huntsville - there’s at least one in my office. So there should be something around here - you’ll want to check Madison, too, which is Huntsville’s bedroom community.
Maybe look on facebook?
good luck.

Thanks, struck out there so far unfortunately.

You can always email the alumni association (I used to be the Dubai representative years ago, but I don't really have any personal contact there, not unless Brodie Remington is still fundraising for UM).
Or you can find the one other alumni by doing exactly what you did here and have it in a living room. Just be careful you don't end up being pranked by some salty Bama fans :p*
*I went to the Bama "game"** in Dallas and the Bama fans were a delight, I believe I've shared my story on the board before but TL;DR = I shared a cab with a Bama family (they prebooked a beautiful SUV) and she turned out to be the first(or youngest, something exceptional) Female Alabama Supreme Court Justice. She not only let me hitchhike with her entire family (little kids) she also paid for the entire ride (even though my cheap airport hotel was a significant distance in addition to her Four Seasons dropoff) and we still keep in touch. She never brought up our terrible loss nor did she, the kids nor the husband show me anything other than kindness.
**"Game" is in quotes ala PopeLando "offensive" coordinator "Brian"...

This forum went from humble brags to sad destinations so gradually, I hardly noticed.

I never visited, but worked with a bunch of people in Huntsville. By all accounts, it's a fairly cool town that's stuck in Alabama.
January 5th, 2024 at 10:18 PM ^
Between NASA and Redstone Arsenal, it’s one one of the most educated cities on the planet. No better place to get a beer brewed by a PhD student in a STEM degree program. But yes, it’s very much stuck in Alabama.

I used to live in Huntsville and I agree, it is a cool town. I enjoyed living there. Apparently most Alabamians don't consider Huntsville to be part of Alabama, so that should be your clue that it is actually a cool city.

Here you go! Good luck finding fellow Wolverines as you travel the country.
January 5th, 2024 at 10:18 PM ^
Thanks! Unfortunately, it’s listed by alumni chapter, and Huntsville (or anywhere in Alabama) doesn’t have one.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:34 AM ^
*Yet*... you know what you need to do now.
January 6th, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
If I ever find myself there permanently, I just might. But just weeklong trips a few times a year for now.

There's a joke in that first paragraph I just know it.

I'm heading to Vegas for work that afternoon and I believe I'll have to watch during my layover in Seattle and on the plane. So if anyone is in the Seattle airport Monday evening, let me know.

My friend, I feel for you. We lived in Madison (Huntsville's one suburb) from 1987--2001 before moving back to AA. With all the engineers employed there, I can't believe there still is not an Alumni group.
Good luck, and Go Blue!

I went to a watch party in the SF Bay Area for last year’s semifinal. It was on NYD and was specifically listed by the San Fran alumni association as a watch party and not just a michigan game watch location. Unfortunately, a bunch of alums showed up but the placed was closed for NYD. So double check and call ahead for Monday.
I just had knee surgery I doubt I will leave the house to make a watch party this year, but you never know.
Btw, when I filled out the pre-op intake form just before and they asked me what I what I want to be doing after recovery, I thought of Corum (same surgery) and I wrote “up and running in 6 weeks win the Natty in a year”.

I’m in the SF East Bay…
January 6th, 2024 at 4:35 AM ^
Same. I don’t feel like going into the City on a Monday. I will likely be at Canyon Club in Moraga (home of the Gaels)
January 6th, 2024 at 5:35 PM ^
The official East Bay watch location is Bobby Gs in Berkeley
January 6th, 2024 at 6:37 AM ^
I’ll be stuck in A2 watching with a bunch of future alumni in Crisler Arena. The food and drink selection will definitely be better at all y’alls parties whether in Huntsville or Dubai.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:49 AM ^
maybe true, scanner, but the energy and enthusiasm from a few thousand of the school's present students would be pretty tremendous, too. hopefully far more than making up for the lack of adult beverages.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:36 AM ^
You'll be fine. I'll be watching it on my phone in a hotel room.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:56 AM ^
I'll be in Manhattan Monday for work..Anyone have info on Watch party NYC?

I don't give a piss bout nothing but the tide!!!!

Huntsville has a very high percentage of transplants in the defense and space industries, so I was hopeful there’d be an alum chapter, but no dice.
The Fightin’ Poisonous Algae crowds are strong there, but not quite ubiquitous.
January 6th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
Dang. PA only has Philly and Pittsburgh.
Nothing around Harrisburg/Hershey area.

gbdub,
We have a watch club here in Huntsville but it hasn't been very active this year; we met for every game last year. If you are on Facebook, the group is North Alabama UofM Fans. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/121351124881823/). There are just under 100 people in the group.
There are a lot of Michigan alums here in Huntsville and a lot of non-alum, transplanted Michigan people fans as well. I have been here for 33 years.
We had family in town for the semifinals and secured the club room at our apartment complex and it was a pretty good place to watch though we had to bring in our own food and drinks. We may do the same for this game. Otherwise, we will probably watch at Drake's on Whitesburg - and hopefully they will turn up the sound on the TV's.
Send me a PM if you are interested. Wait, do we have PM's on this site? If not, we can figure out an alternate means of contact.

Ha, username checks out. Thanks for the reply and info! I just put in a request to join the FB group so we’ll see if that works out.
I’ll be staying over by the Bridge Street center near the Redstone main gate. Will be traveling with some family so I’m somewhat dependent on what they are up for. If I didn’t find anything else I was looking at either the Brass Tap or the End Zone.
No PMs on this site but you can email me - my umich uniqname is garrickw.

Does anybody know of any bars or places in Detroit that are putting on a special event for the game?
