Agreed.  Was kind of thinking the same thing, at the end of the day, sports to me are really just entertaintment.

TRIGGERED!

I've been…

TRIGGERED!

I've been lurking since the early days, about 2005.  I've had a few names here, which I've long forgotten.

I used to coach football which had me very glued into the UFRs early on.  I don't have as much time to dig in as I once did...

On field + Graham with that club--completely obliterating Minnesota's O-Line (This is the first thing that came to mind)
Anger moment- Tie between the Thaw thing and giving snaps to walk on types during non garbage time, notably against Alabama
Surprise- The Orgi Cat turning into as much of a thing as it did--and how effective it was
Favorite Feature- Currently the Podcast, which is the most I have time for at the moment

Yeah agreed, get-ups are a bit of a chore to even get the form down correctly.  It's such a good test of core strength and mobility let alone the strength to get the weight over your head!

Used to be very into kettlebell training and setting PRs with Turkish get-ups was always one of the hardest things.  I got up to 40kg/88lbs but that took years of trying and all I remember was feeling like my arm was going to rip off my body.  The thought of doing double that weight is ridiculous.

Pale Saints caught me off guard. Love it

Yeah he was brutal. Called a tackle a sack one time. Saying the wrong tackler or not acknowledging the tackler or someone who made a play.

I wasn't sure if the TV…

I wasn't sure if the TV production crew was parodying themselves, by the end, with that clip of RGIII running the stairs for the 100th time...but it made me chuckle they kept showing it.

Yeah if I was staying…

Yeah if I was staying downtown and was going to splurge on a meal, I'd go to Manny's or 112.  Mannys is super close to the Hilton.  112 is walkable.

If you're looking for a…

If you're looking for a place close to the airport, I'd recommend Tiffany's Sport Lounge in Saint Paul. Less than 15 minutes from the airport and is pretty laid back midday on Saturday's.  I've watched a handful of Michigan games there and it's rarely very busy.  It's a Kansas bar but you might find some other Michigan fans hanging out there...

Less laid back, I'd recommend seeing where the Michigan Alumni Club is hosting The Game.  They usually have a dedicated Bar.  Not sure where it's being hosted now, it's been a few years since I've been.

I'm kinda in the camp of …

I'm kinda in the camp of "remains to be seen."  I think the degree of transition cost will impact his legacy.

Great speech and well…

Great speech and well deserved.

I love this offense.  So many contributors and guys who the coaches trust with the ball in their hands.  One thing that has impressed me about the way they've managed the team is when a guy has had a rough game or had some ball control issues, they stick with them and let them keep playing.  There is clearly a lot of trust between the coaches and players.  Championship level chemistry and Gattis is clearly cultivating a lot of that.

It'll be fine, Seth said, on the podcast,  he was peeing in the injury tent or something.

I heard the same thing. …

I heard the same thing.  Also heard that he blocked off some time after practice to show him some of the nuances of fullback!

Had a similar thought…

Had a similar thought. Coaches don't exactly live normal lives. Coaches wives are often times purely business managers who sacrifice a lot to have their husband basically not be at home. None of us know their dynamic but it wouldn't shock me if she either doesn't care, looks the other way, or is into it...

not that I care too much, it's fun to watch Urban face plant.

One thing that stuck out…

One thing that stuck out today was how well organized the team seemed. No dumb penalties or substituting that required taking timeouts. This team is a lot more disciplined (so far) than the last few Harbaugh teams.

I appreciate this post.  That was a memorable ending for sure!  It was great seeing Alvarez pissed off/frustrated on the sideline.

Terrible news. I took a class from Coach Debord back in the early 00s and ran into him a few times after at various coaching clinics.  Always approachable. Like others have said, very nice/affable guy and despite his often frustrating playcalling he was an excellent coach/teacher. He will certainly be in my thoughts.

Really bummed to see this.  …

Really bummed to see this.

Remember seeing him in AA back in the day.  He was recovering from the flu iirc.  He came out and basically said "I'm sick and I have no material"  and encouraged people to shout topics at him.  Completely random and hilarious.

I think the presence of Craig Ross would have made this much more tolerable.

That's why I always try to…

That's why I always try to watch Gus if he's on, he's nothing special 90% of the time but those one yard runs or dramatic readings of commercials make it all worth it.

Basketball seems to bring out the best version of Gus though.

My assumption is that at the…

My assumption is that at the college level, position coaches are given a certain level of autonomy on teaching technique, since that is like one of the main things they should be contributing. What to focus on technique wise might be a different story (cleaning up dumb penalities due to bad technique.)

Gattis might want to be more hands on during positional work w/wide receivers and I would have to imagine Harbaugh would want that since they're really going to need to lean on that group more next year.

on a side note...

I find analyzing who is really holding their weight as a position coach to be kind of tricky since we don't see practice.  You never know what guys aren't putting in the effort or just aren't understanding the playbook or have bad habits that can't be undone. I'd be very curious to know what kind of metrics Harbaugh has to hold guys accountable upon review.

fwiw, I've seen tape of…

fwiw, I've seen tape of Loeffler working with Brady when he was a grad assistant and have heard Loeffler talk about it (I took a football coaching class at CMU when Debord/Loeffler were there.)  Brady had to make a lot of adjustments to his footwork since he was relatively slow and Loeffler helped him improve upon that.

I coached HS football for a few years and talked with other coaches about that same tape.  Michigan would (probably still do) share drill tape with coaches looking to improve technique and I think that was one of the ones that made the rounds.

I can't imagine Leoffler NOT using something like that as a resume builder.

Loeffler was a big piece of…

Loeffler was a big piece of Brady's early development and it seems like he's done a good job of capitalizing on that.

Hasn't exactly had the most awe inspiring career otherwise. I think he's "just a guy" but who knows, he might be a better HC than coordinator.

agreed

Morris is my favorite. Thin Blue Line, Vernon Florida, Gates of Heaven...in addition to what's been mentioned. Herzog is right there too

Totally agree on the

Totally agree on the announcing.  On top of continuing to bring up the push, Tillman said that Kinnel should have been tossed as well!  I normally laugh off bad announcing but yeesh, that was straight up offensive!

I can't remember where I

I can't remember where I heard or read it, but supposedly one of the reasons they still use it is to have the players show that they've continued to hit the gym hard between the end of season and the combine. Considering it more of an endurance exercise vs a show of power.

Till he lifted his hand up, I was convinced his hands and feet were tied and he was trying to wiggle his feet free...

I only hope that if I'm ever taken hostage, my captors treat me so well though... it looks like they've had him on a steady diet of brisket for the last week.

Edwards recounting the

Edwards recounting the recruitment of Ty Detmer is one of my all time favorite recruiting stories:

"We’d had a pretty good run at quarterbacks when he came along. We tried to recruit a kid named John Elway. We tried to recruit other big names out of high school. We couldn’t even get them to come for a visit. So this kid down in Texas had all kinds of stats. He threw more in a game in high school there than we did for a couple of seasons… He committed for a visit. Between his junior and senior year, he and his father took a trip to look around. The first time I saw him, they opened the door and there’s this little guy there. He had an Adam’s apple bigger than his biceps. He probably weighed 145 pounds or something like that… We sat down and his dad, who was also his high school coach, said, ‘Well, coach, if you want him, he’s yours.’  And I’m thinking, ‘Something’s wrong here. I wonder what film they sent me.’ … I looked at him and I was expecting to see John Elway and I saw Pee Wee Herman. … He came after his senior year, and he wasn’t in camp four or five days when Norm Chow came in and told me, ‘I think we’ve got something very, very special here.’"

RIP

My favorite moment from the

My favorite moment from the Samuels highlight reel is when their team runs an option play, there are three guys that have the QB and Samuels dead to rights.  Instaed of the QB charging up field to salvage whatever he can, he pitches back to Samuels who reverses field for a 55 yard touchdown, evading six or seven dudes. Absolutely ridiculous.

Powerful admission.

Coached HS football for five

Coached HS football for five years, during and a little bit after college.  Some of the most fun I've ever had.  It's been about 10 years and I miss it all the time.

I would recommend coaching (at any level) it to anyone who has the desire to try it. Coaching gives you (at least it did for me) a completely different perspective on the game.
