On field + Blake flashing "65" after applying a nail into the OSU coffin.
Anger moment- When the 3rd "tush push" TD was scored on the defense vs Maryland.
Surprise- Josh Wallace quietly being a not just good, but VERY good BIG10 CB.
Favorite Feature- Duh ..UFR.. smash F5 every Wednesday at the cubicle .

Hope to hear from some of the others!

Mostly a Lurker, occasional poster...

On field? Interception against OSU to seal the game.

Anger? Watching Zinter get hurt... ):

Surprise? The 'no-star' defense reaching historically awesome levels!

Favorite feature? Other than everything? Neck sharpies are amazing!

Thank you to this wonderful site!!

I've been on this site since 2007, cycled through a couple accounts that I rage deleted somewhere in the RR/Hoke years. Realized I had this one dormant since 2013 (!). Probably for the best that I stopped commenting, mostly because I was insufferable.

Best moment for me was the interception to seal The Game. Anger would probably be third Q against Maryland. Surprise player - Kenneth Grant.

Favorite feature - season previews.

Thank you to Brian and the crew, and all of the fellow lurkers and posters out there. I love you all, it's been a journey

I've been reading this Blog since the very first few months of Brian starting it.  I couldn't get enough, but I didn't create an account until a few years later.  I had that account, but still didn't post much.  I then lost access to that account (forgot my password to the email that it was attached to), so then I created this profile.

Over the years, this blog has just gotten better and better.  Seth (in particular) has been a WONDERFUL addition.

Favorite on field memory of 2023? Mason Graham putting a Joe Moore winning lineman on his ass.

On field moment that angered you of 2023? Refs spotting the ball 3 yards in Alabama's favor.

Biggest surprise player of 2023? Donovan Edwards having little impact during the regular season was surprising.

Favorite feature of MgoBlog? The free Chinese food they send to my house every Friday.

I found MGoBlog right before the 2006 season when everyone was so excited Ron English was the new DC. We all know what's happened since then. I lurked until 2009 when I finally made an account. A few post/points but haven't posted in years.

I found so much solace knowing everyone at MGoBlog was going through the same emotions as I was during the dark times.

Thanks for everything Brian and company!

Favorite on field memory of 2023?  Beyond the national championship, favorite memory was Sherrone Moore’s post game interview after beating PSU.  2nd favorite was from that game when it was very clear dropping back and throwing the ball wasn’t going to work so we decided to run it and continue to run it.

On field moment that angered you of 2023?  That we could only play 15 games.  Bring on Georgia.  Bring on FSU.  We will beat them or die trying.

Biggest surprise player of 2023? AJ Barner

Favorite feature of MgoBlog? That it’s still around.  So many sports sites from way back when are gone or absorbed by big media, it’s nice to have a specifically focused site filled with awesome analysis and unvarnished truths.

This looks like as good as a place as any for my random thought/question...

Michigan won as many games this season as MSU and OSU combined.  Has this ever happened before and if so when?

Newton Gimmick

January 12th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^

Last time it happened was 1947, before MSU was in the Big 10.  Michigan was of course 10-0; OSU was 2-6-1 and MSU was 7-2.

Since then, there have been three close calls:

1971: 11-1 UM, 6-4 OSU, 6-5 MSU
1988: 9-2-1 UM, 4-6-1 OSU, 6-5-1 MSU (all three ties were against Iowa)
1991: 10-2 UM, 8-4 OSU, 3-8 MSU

Michigan also accomplished the feat in 1940, and several times up through 1925.

I just finished the MGo Podcast, and the last 30 minutes had me reflecting on my 15 years on this site.  Thank you to this community for this whole journey, because the past 15 years have been an adventure. It wouldn’t have been the same without you. My Bama father told me about the site, and I haven’t been able to stay away, since.  It was the recruiting posts that hooked me

Everything has been coming up Millhouse for 3 years. I started dating my current girlfriend 3 years ago, and she had no idea what she was getting into with my fandom. We’re 40-3, and defending national champs with her. She graduated from the University of Arkansas, and the only school she supports is Michigan. She even has a Michigan onesie with a buttflap (she’s a personal trainer, so it’s very nice).  We watch games with one of my closest friends from Michigan and his Ole Miss wife, who went to a Little Rock all-girls private school with my woman (she also only supports Michigan).  For all of you, I’m gonna keep her around for as long as it takes to keep winning

I just wanted to post something after listening to the last portion of the podcast. If you haven’t listened to it, do yourself a favor and do so.  I’m just so happy I found this place, and all of you nerds.

Big time lurker here. I am obsessed with this site.

Favorite: Rod Moore ending The Game.

I believe I was most angry at myself for the majority of PSU through Alabama games. So stressful to watch, and I would constantly ask myself why in hell do I do this. So happy it paid off, and I was doing the right thing the whole way through.

Biggest surprise was how tremendous Stew looked by the end of the season.

UFRs by far my favorite. Thanks Brian, Seth and all the other contributors. This site has provided so much enhancement to the season.

Favorite on field memory of 2023? 6-5. This backbreaker was right when we needed it most. We had managed to go the whole season without losing a key piece like so many of our previous seasons, and this felt like a spiral right back into that. Seeing the team get right back up off the mat and drive it down the enemy's throat was a real turning point in my belief that this season wasn't going to be like the last two.

On field moment that angered you of 2023? Watching the offense sputter and spurt for most of the season wasn't particularly fun to watch, and made the leadup to big games pretty stressful. I get that it was in the name of conservatism and gamesmanship, of course.

Biggest surprise player of 2023? James Turner, to be honest. I thought we would return to #collegekickers and was surprised that he had beaten both Samaha and Doman to the PK job, despite those guys' crooting ranks.

Favorite feature of MgoBlog? Where else on the internet can you get such a unique blend of statistical analysis, emotional catharsis, creative writing, and pure, honest fandom? You can lurk this site forever and get just as rich an experience as those who actually use this board.

Favorite memory is not-so-legally sneaking onto the field for the second half of the under the lights 2011 notre dame game. I’ll tell the “cool story bro” story at some point. Not yet.

Favorite on field memory of 2023?

You stole mine - Blake flashing Zak's number after the TD.  Chills.

On field moment that angered you of 2023?

Pick a time when Sherrone abandoned the run in the CFP, especially in short yardage situations.

Biggest surprise player of 2023?

I didn't expect Kenneth Grant to be the goliath gazelle he turned into this year.  Such a Dude.

Favorite feature of MgoBlog?

Gotta be Oppo Watch!  Eternal gratitude to Bryan for his labor of love.

Lurking?  I was reading this blog for 9 years before I made an account, mostly so I could upvote those of you that add so much to this place.  IRL you can find me lurking in the rafters at Yost, hopefully with my ‘cue the muppets’ shirt on, which is reserved for the really good days.
On the field?  Blake’s spinning TD in OT at the Rose Bowl

Anger?  watching Ryan Day lobby the refs on Roman’s touchdown catch.  Okay basically I was angry at him all day, anyway.

surprise? I will admit, after the previous season, I waited for the head-scratching loss to an inferior team, all year, that never came.  It’s college football, it happens.

favorite feature?  I don’t have the attention span for neck sharpies or UFR, but I will check daily for Brian’s gamer.  He’s the best.

What’s up lurkers, one of my best buddies turned me on to this site and I’ve visited everyday since.

on field +: touchdown pass to Loveland vs MSU. It looked like men vs boys on that specific play.

anger moment: seeing Jake Thaw back to return a punt in the rose bowl.

surprise: A.J. Barnet being sick.

fave feature: the diagram on FFFF. Wish there was one for every team in cfb.
much love to everybody, we reached the mountaintop!!! Go blue.

TRIGGERED!

I've been lurking since the early days, about 2005.  I've had a few names here, which I've long forgotten.

I used to coach football which had me very glued into the UFRs early on.  I don't have as much time to dig in as I once did...

On field + Graham with that club--completely obliterating Minnesota's O-Line (This is the first thing that came to mind)
Anger moment- Tie between the Thaw thing and giving snaps to walk on types during non garbage time, notably against Alabama
Surprise- The Orgi Cat turning into as much of a thing as it did--and how effective it was
Favorite Feature- Currently the Podcast, which is the most I have time for at the moment

First lurked in late 2007 right after Lloyd announced his retirement.  Became hooked because the content was so much better than anything I had ever read.  Lurked for a couple years before signing on. F5 key is pretty worn, 98% from this here site.

Favorite on-field memory of 2023:  Tipped pass to Mikey Sainristil in the Alabama game. Still can't believe how that turned out.

Anger moment:  Cheap shot on Alex Orji vs MSU.

Surprise player: Kenneth Grant.  Did not realize that he was that great of a player.  A freak.

Favorite feature:  Game previews.  Really brings my expectations to within reason and makes the game experience more mentally manageable.

Lurking away, here for the love of the avatar.  MGoBlog trivia, who remembers history of the bear?

edit: Lloyd retiring brought me here and the content kept me.

best moment of 2023- Rose Bowl win.

67-65 M-IL shootout was too wild for me

Been around since the Haloscan days; but I didn't have it in me to live in that sea of chaos other than the occasional "We need to hire Brian Kelly" during the Rich Rod coaching search.

On field: Stuffing Milroe in overtime. I was at the Rose Bowl and it was in the endzone I was sitting in. That'll stick with me.

Anger: Honestly, still too happy to remember the bad at this point.

Surprise: AJ Barner. Exceeded my wildest expectations in replacing All

Feature: 1) UFR. It's the best. 2) Neck Sharpies. Seth is the closing thing I've got to compare to the glory days of the Smart Football blog. 3) FFFF. Alex does great work and is an immense credit to the site. Brian's yearly opening column has meant a ton to me over the years and should be mentioned, but it doesn't seem to fit the prompt very well, so it gets the hat tip.

Favorite on-field memory the 4th down OT stop of Milroe. I think I jumped high enough to clear a Powerwheels Hummer in my living room.

Favorite on field memory of 2023?

Without a doubt the interception that ended the OSU game.

On field moment that angered you of 2023?

Favorite on field memory of 2023?  The OSU game-ending interception.  I grew up in Toledo so I know how insufferable OSU fans are.  Beating them a third year in a row after years of futility - yep, that’s my favorite.

On field moment that angered you of 2023?  Not much to be angry about - maybe when the Penn State player tried to troll us with the fake binoculars bit?

Biggest surprise player of 2023?  I am too casual of a fan to have a surprise player.

Favorite feature of MgoBlog? The podcast - I listened and re-listened to many episodes this past year.  A lot of the X’s and O’s stuff goes right over my head but I still enjoy it - keep doing the Lord’s work, fellas!

Man, I feel old.   I don't know when I found MgoBlog, but I recall starting to follow blogs in early days of the Internet and found a Michigan recruiting one.  I remember checking for daily update on the recruiting progress of Grant Irons, brother of Michigan badass Jarrett Irons.  Grant Irons eventually went to Notre Dame, and graduated in ND class of 2002.  So, I have been around since then. (I don't think that was MGoBlog, and when it folded, it referred readers to MGoBlog?)  I kept making accounts and forgetting log ins so never accumulated many points.

Favorite memory of 2023?   Attending the Purdue game with my younger daughter.  She had a great time, we did well, and was a really awesome UM experience.   Or maybe seeing Blake Corum giving out turkeys and raising 20,000 toys.  On field?  Hmm, maybe it was Semaj Morgan against Purdue cause he ran right by me.  Or, Morris running in the first touchdown against Bama when he just blew by everyone.  I knew then we wouldn't be out atheleted by "SEC".  I started to believe.  Or the 4th and 2 against Bama where Blake went for 50.  Or Roman's catch on the deflection.

Worst Memory -- Zinter going down.  Wow, how can you not feel horrible for a guy who snaps his leg playing a game for us to watch?

Suprise Player? I will go Barner.  Probably cause I had low expectations  after the Indiana years.  But wow, was he a player.

MGo Blog?  The humour, wit, creativity and just great writing.  I learn so much about football from Seth and UFR or neck sharpies.  "Opponent Watch" is amazing writing and always makes me smile.  The comments invariably have some witty points.  Insightful notes.  And the retorts to the less than clear or thoughtful posts bring a smile to my face.  In sum, it makes fandom seem more rationale, more comprehendible and definitely deeper and more rich that watching the team on TV.

Go Blue!

Favorite on field memory of 2023?

Absolute destruction in East Lansing, 49-0, no mercy. So overdue!

On field moment that angered you of 2023?

This is more meta but the completely unnecessary night games. Bowling Green, and to a lesser extent Purdue. Should both have been a noon games.

Biggest surprise player of 2023?

Kenneth Grant. Knew he'd be good, but didn't know he'd be that good! A dominant season.

Been lurking forever - since at least when we moved back to Michigan in 2006. One of those dudes who always lurked but never even set up an MGoBlog account until this fall, when I couldn't take Signgate any more and needed consoling. Mine:

Favorite on field: The Milroe stop in OT. I'll admit it, I was listening and couldn't watch. I had Karsch and Jansen on and the TV muted, but they weren't synced and ESPN was a full play ahead on the delay. Hearing Jansen go nuts after the stop was worth it.

Angry moment: That first Chop Robinson sack of JJ v. Penn State. That game had so much riding on it, with everyone assuming its result would suggest the degree of competitive advantage, and I thought sure we were doomed. Glad I was very wrong.

Biggest surprise: Keon Saab. Recency bias, probably, but damn.

Favorite feature: Love the Roundtable. And Brian's posts generally talked me off the ledge during Signgate.

-J.J.'s picks against Bowling Green

-Still love FFFF

Stats: 12.5 years

1000pts

On Field: Very tough, so many great plays this year. I have to go with The Don’s tds in the championship. I am very inspired by how he handled himself this season. Could have packed it in, but he was a consummate team player and I was so happy for him to make such a meaningful contribution.

Anger: Special teams in the Rose Bowl. I was calm when they got the ball down 7 however.

Surprise: Semaj. Just an absolute “Disciplined Athlete With Grit”

Feature: 1A Annual Hail to the Victors magazine, hard copy obviously.
