Zavier Simpson signed by OKC Thunder to 10-day contract

I really hope Zavier sticks in the league. Does anyone know if he's been throwing up hook shots in the G-league this year for the OKC Blue?

The Oklahoma City Thunder plan to sign guard Zavier Simpson to a 10-day hardship exception, league sources told @hoopshype.

He's shooting 35% from 3 which is not bad for a guy who could barely break 30% at UM.  He's only attempting three per game but still a pretty good improvement for him.

Kinda off topic from the OP, but it is crazy what the bottom of the NBA is doing these last few weeks.  Just blatant tanking.  Check out some of the box scores from an OKC, Magic, Portland ,etc game. If you recognize more than a couple players getting minutes I would be surprised.  OKC is probably the worst offender but they screwed up a few nights ago and beat the Suns!  They probably are signing simpson to make sure that doesn't happen again.

I think Simpson can play in the League. Rajon Rondo made a career for himself and his offense leaves a lot to be desired. Zavier can run a team on the 2nd unit. He could be a guy who gets about 12-15 minutes per game on a team with good shooters. When the team needs an offensive spark, Simpson can come in and push the pace, get out on the break and get some easy baskets for others.

Rajon is 6-1 with a 6-9 wingspan.  He's also one of the best passers in his generation and every coach and player say his on-court intelligence is off the charts.  He's mercurial and seems like a handful, but he's a far better player than Zavier could ever hope to be, both physically and mentally.

I would say that Zavier Simpson has an extremely high basketball IQ, and is an exceptional passer. Rondo was able to defend a wider array of players than Simpson can. But, Simpson is an outstanding on-ball defender, as well. I do understand Zavier's limitations. He wouldn't be a Rondo-type starter, but he could be a nice pace pusher off the bench.

Simpson is a close second for me, especially being from same town as him, But it's hard to top Trey Burke and that 2013 tourney run. For me, that Kansas game was the most memorable individual performance since I've been really paying attention to Michigan athletics. Hassan Haskins now holds that spot, but Trey Burke is still right there.

Had a great debut too! At least according to the box score (didn't watch the game). 10 pts, 5 ast, 3 reb, 1 stl, and 2! blocks.  And the thunder made a huge 4th quarter comeback to beat Portland (which is good as a Pistons fan for lottery purposes).  As much as I loved Zavier at M I never thought he would make it to the league. Very happy for him.  Obviously not ready to give up on his playing career but I think he would make a great coach someday if he ever chose to do so. The ultimate floor general PG.

As a side note I challenge any casual NBA fan on this board to look at that box score and see how many names they recognize outside of Zavier.  If its more than 3 then kudos to you.
