You are the Michigan OC - what are your first 10 scripted plays?

Submitted by Promote RichRod on

I have no idea if we actually script plays but whatever:

  1. Fake QB draw / deep slant
  2. QB lead draw (left)
  3. Zone read
  4. Flare to HB (Smith)
  5. Rollout right - curl/flat combo pattern
  6. QB power offtackle
  7. Zone read with option to Odoms bubble
  8. Edge pitch (Shaw)
  9. Delayed QB draw
  10. 5 wide send Stonum and Hemingway deep

I love that designed QB counter draw that we saw against Indiana.

I also love that "oh hey, there's no one open. I think I'll just run for 70 yards and a touchdown" play.

1) Tate as QB, Denard at WR.  WR screen to Denard

2) Tate moves to WR, snap to Denard, read option with smith

3) Denard to Tate back to Denard (the old QB pass back)

4) Tate goes back to bench.  Denard up the middle

5) Read option with smith

6) Fake run deep slant.

I love this for the first 10 plays of the first half since they can't prep for his speed.  However my theory as to why we aren't scoring as much until the final possession (see IU and ND 2nd half), rests with our RBs and playcalling to our WRs.  So if this question was altered to 2nd half my answer would be

1. Denard or WR or RB

2. Denard or WR or RB

3. Denard or WR or RB

Repeat as necessary, with Denard receiving only ONE called run per 3 downs.  If we mix in more carries for Shaw, and passes to our WRs later in the game, it helps Denard's effectiveness and our overall balance.

Really, I don't understand why we aren't doing this.  It seems so simple to me.  Oh well, I'm glad I could add something of value to the board.

Finally, someone honors Jack Kennedy with the last TD of the game!  Go Kennedy!  Wasn't he voted most likely to be President by the team?  I'm sure it has nothing to do with his name and all to do with his leadership characteristics.  Seriously though, I hope he gets in someday.

I'd like to see Lewan hatin' on that Jones donkey, or Omameh pile driving Jones into the ground. A couple plays with either or both of those happening and Denard sets new rushing records.
