Will Michigan Get In The Top 10?
We were #14 going into this week for both AP and Coaches. I feel like winning on the road as an underdog in convincing fashion should give us a good bump despite Wisconsin not being ranked. Plus 5 teams ahead of us have lost as well (#ChaosYear):
3 Oregon
8 Arkansas
9 Notre Dame
10 Florida
12 Ole Miss.
That gives us a great shot at cracking the top 10 this week. We'll definitely jump Arkansas, Florida and Ole Miss, but I think there's a chance that Oregon doesn't fall far enough or that ND only drops to 10 given that it's a "quality loss."
Penn State is the only one left still in action, but they're looking good against IU right now. Would love to see us climb the ranks. If we make it, OSU will jump up there too and the B1G will have 4 of the top 10. So proud of this team. It feel like we've earned a good ranking this year instead of just relying on high expectations and pre-season rankings bumps.

Without question!
Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Florida all lost. They were all just ahead of Michigan in the rankings, and nobody behind Michigan did anything special to jump over UM.

That ND loss made my Saturday. It just doesn't get any better than to see a UM win and a "holier than thou" loss.
October 3rd, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
I love it that ND lost, however, everyone needs to pump the breaks on the Cincy hype. Go look at their schedule. It is horrible. I really hope they lose a game so they don't make the playoff.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
What was the point of the playoff? if a Boise, Cincy or UCF can't get in every once in a while.
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
Lol, asked and answered.

At least no one will complain that our titles are bad? It's too perfect.
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:20 PM ^
Don’t care. Just keep winning. Beat Scott Frost (and his mom).

And his hard hitting players

Haven't seen you on here in awhile. What's up, Doc?
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
An SEC team is 5-0 and just beat #10. Doesn't that mean Kentucky will jump us (and a lot of others) to be #3?
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:30 PM ^
Their win against ULM certainly matches up with Bama over Mercer or UGA over UAB. Go ahead and give em #3.
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:26 PM ^
Tune in to the next thread to find out!
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:32 PM ^
Not sure UM will pass Oregon. Oregon was #3, and their big win was against the team UM must defeat every year, but never can defeat. I think most voters will keep Oregon ahead of UM.
The other 4 teams that were ranked ahead of Michigan, I expect Michigan to pass in the polls tomorrow.
My prediction: Michigan is ranked #10 in the AP and coaches poll Sunday afternoon.

Oregon has looked like garbage ,the past couple weeks, they lost to a backup QB today and Stanford lost its best 2 WR in this game as well .
Winning at the shoe is a better win than in Camp Randle, but 5-0 is better than 4-1 ,with that loss to an unranked team ..Michigan 9 , Oregon 11 is my guess, because they will have the SEC teams drop 1-2 spots, because they played Bama Georgia
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
More than ever, I don't care about the rankings. Beat Nebraska, slaughter MSU, annihilate PSU, and finally get the monkey off our back with OSU. If that happens, we'll be ranked. If it doesn't, Michigan just continues to be "hot" or "good" in Sept. and maybe Oct., when it doesn't matter.
October 2nd, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
Remember, to make November matter you have to win and develop in September & October. Looks to me we are doing that so far. ?
October 2nd, 2021 at 10:50 PM ^
Yes. It's part of the "Nice Things" package we earned for this weekend, by beating down Wisconsin at Camp Randall today.
October 2nd, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
It means a lot. Recruits track this stuff. The higher and longer we stay in the top 10 counts.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:38 AM ^
Damn good point. RANKINGS MATTER.
The faster, and longer you can stay near the top of the rankings, the more likely the committee will consider your team for the playoff.
For every person who basically posts "The rankings don't matter, just keep winning" you are telling everyone reading your post you don't understand the mechanics of making the college football playoffs. Rankings matter. Get over it. Deal with it. #GoBlue

It’s hard to imagine UM being left out of the playoffs if they win the B1G, but with Alabama & Georgia probably taking 2 of the playoff spots, that leaves 2 for the other 4 conferences/Notre Dame/Cincinnati. Style points will be required…
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
I have to believe ND is out with the home loss to Cincy. They will be 11-1 at best any big wins - Wisconsin, UNC, USC were there best chances but none are ranked as of right now.
Unless the Big Ten teams all knock each other out, I think it's more likely a second Big Ten team has a better playoff resume than Notre Dame
October 2nd, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
I don’t understand the preoccupation with moving up the rankings, especially after the late-season disappointment of the last few years, and after playing almost no one this year.
But I realize others think it’s meaningful. Enjoy!

Sorry we're having fun after winning
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:17 AM ^
Beat Nebraska
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:21 AM ^
8 or 9 is what I'm expecting tomorrow afternoon.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
Don’t really care at this point about rank- just win every Saturday and things will work out. Just win.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:51 AM ^
I want to be this way, but still want us to be ranked. Humans are complicated
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:06 AM ^
It would not surprise me if we get bumped up to number 9.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:08 AM ^
Odds are good that they will be in the top 10. ND has been playing with fire all season, so I think the pollsters will drop them to at least 15. Zero quality wins and they could easily be 3-2 or 2-3 right now.
Oregon is a question mark. They have an impressive win on their record, so they might stay in the top 10. But geez, the Pac-12 can't catch a break. Three weeks ago, they were the toast of college football. Now, they're a quarter away from having only one ranked team. And the B1G is about to have four teams in the Top 10.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:42 AM ^
No lower than 12. No higher than 10. IMO. This is a top 10 team atm. Just not sure the rankers will put us there.
Great game. The D is rolling!

3) Penn St , 4)Iowa , 7) OSU , 9) Michigan ,10) MSU is my guess ,from what ive seen today and the season so far
October 3rd, 2021 at 5:41 AM ^
A top 10 team with Jim Harbaugh as coach? Impossible if you reread all the preseason posts from the end of last season to today. I would say a lot of you are eating crow right now. Go Blue! Beat Nebraska!
October 3rd, 2021 at 10:14 AM ^
What a stupid post. So a partial season of slightly over-achieving erases multiple seasons of badly under-achieving? Just enjoy the success and hope like hell the season doesn’t turn as quickly as the Rutgers game did.
October 3rd, 2021 at 6:38 AM ^
Frankly, all I am worried about right now is "The Gauntlet"TM of games (basically beginning with MSU until OSU). Hopefully because next week is a night game we do *not* have to play a white out in Happy Valley. Two night away games with our schedule is some buuuuuuuuulllllllsh*t.
October 3rd, 2021 at 8:32 AM ^
Nebraska is a night game and PSU will not be, as UofM would have to agree to play at night in Happy Valley.
October 3rd, 2021 at 7:32 AM ^
Does a Bear shit in the woods
October 3rd, 2021 at 8:14 AM ^
I posted in the other post that got deleted but 8 is possible but 9 probable. Saw a prediction at 7 which may be a bit much.
October 3rd, 2021 at 8:15 AM ^
No, and we shouldn’t be. We’ve played two MAC teams, Rutgers, and two other Power Five teams with a combined record of 3-5 and a loss to an FCS team. We have no QB, no receivers, and questionable defense. This 5-0 start is a total mirage.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
You remind me of a fart I fear to be wet, but is instead just atrocious.
October 3rd, 2021 at 11:47 AM ^
Not a total mirage. But Western has since ripped off 4 straight with Ws at Pitt and reigning MAC east champ Buffalo.
is the defense questionable? In what game have they failed to pick up the slack? At Camp Randle is a good not great W this year.
I think the ability to find Johnson and Wilson to pick up Bell’s production would be crucial. Especially against the penn St secondary. If we can’t sustain a passing game we get destroyed in that game.
you can only play the games on the slate and I’d give the offense a C good second half at Wisconsin, lousy second half at Rutgers and defense an A overall, disruptive and making key stops. Total mirage it’s not.
October 3rd, 2021 at 8:25 AM ^
Don’t care and no offense to the OP. High rankings in the last 20yrs have been a curse to our program. I’ll ride the #14 ranking all year long.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:01 AM ^
To get to the playoffs, we're going to have to beat OSU, MSU, PSU and probably Iowa. No way can you run that table and not get in.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:30 AM ^
We’ll be 10. They can’t drop Oregon past OSU.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:45 AM ^
Ole miss lost to Alabama. That is considered a win
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:51 AM ^
Should be winning on the road is hard. Winning on the road against a very very good defense is deserving. Wisconsin defense is really good their stats may not reflect it because they’re too busy cleaning up the mess from the rest of the team but they are legit.
October 3rd, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Michigan will move into the top ten for sure. Probably will get ranked #7 or #8 based upon their defense. GoBlue!!
October 3rd, 2021 at 11:09 AM ^
If we do, and I could give two shits. It won’t be any higher than 9 and nor should it. Beat Nebraska and get a bye. That’s the 2 week plan.
