Wichita State basketball coach Gregg Marshall punched player, hurled slurs at staff

So I knew something was up when they had six players transfer earlier this year. Now we know why.

Remember when people wanted him in Ann Arbor? Bullet dodged!

Idk about you guys, but if my coach punches me and I’m as physically gifted as an NCAA D-1 basketball player while my coach is a middle aged guy well past his athletic prime, Im fighting back right there - especially in the heat of the moment.

Looked up Shaq Morris, the player who was hit. Oh yeah he could snap a man.

Black people don't have those luxuries.  It's why a bunch of terrorists can storm a Capitol Building armed to the teeth and have the Senate Leader gab it up with them, but Philando Castile, who was a licensed gun carrier gets killed even after telling the cop he was licensed to carry and was carrying as he was obligated to do.

You've got to let cooler heads prevail in this situation. Would Marshall deserve it if he did fight back? Abso-friggin-lutely. Few would dispute that. But sometimes you've just got to be the bigger man and walk away, as hard as that is to do.

Especially if you're considering a future in the pros. I don't know if this kid is, but punching a coach back, regardless of the reason or circumstances, is not a good look when going in for an interview with a prospective team.

I'm sure part of it is exactly because this coach is not that physical imposing they don't feel in immediate danger, plus he is your coach, a guy you presumably like and trust.  It's not unlike a parent or boss physically threatening you; it's a shock to your system and sometimes you don't immediately try to defend yourself.

I met him once in Wichita, he seem like a nice guy who was not stuck up. He actually approached me since I was wearing my Michigan hat. He said we had a great program and I complimented him on his Shocker program. So, I'm a bit surprised but some people can seem nice but really are not. Yeah, back during the coaching search, I thought he'd be a good fit here, thinking what he can do with Wichita State type talent. I'm now glad the search did not pick him.

This is one thing that people don't understand nowadays.  You can't judge someone by what they say in passing, positive or negative. Some people are really good at disguising their true selves and others are just having a really bad day.  Until you take the time to get to know someone you can't judge them positively or negatively.

Anyone can be a dick or a saint for brief moments.

There's an impressive list of allegations. If even some of it's true, he should be fired and never coach again. It's very disturbing that such sociopathic behavior by a coach would be tolerated for so long. He seems like a Bobby Knight on steroids.

He will get fired and still be paid every cent remaining on his contract then almost immediately get a new job that earns him more. Top college coaches are untouchable financially thanks to good agents and pushover administrators.

In HS, if we fucked up, coach would split us into threes and do suicide prints until someone puked. Those were the days.

2020 Me. I intended Suicide SPRINTs... like the phone, not the red or blue one, but the yellow one.. not the pink one either... remember when there was an orange one?

Shaming the player’s girth, talking about family and girlfriends, using racial language and impersonations.

Yep. All things I personally witnessed competing in varsity Big Ten athletics. never saw punching and choking but anything verbal definitely happens right in this conference. I, and 14 of my teammates, were called C***S***ers in one single post game speech. Many of us were told at various times that we should have been aborted. I always wondered how the pro-life guys on the team took being told their moms should have had abortions instead of giving birth to them.

so yeah all of that needs to exit college sports and while I played entirely in the 2000s I suspect it’s gotten better lately. Just know that it definitely happens all across our conference in many sports.

Why should only the pro-lifers be upset about being told they should've been aborted?  That's a fairly horrible thing to say - and I spent 6 years on a submarine finding ways to one-up the slams that came my way!  It's one thing to say it when you're joking your way through a 4-month run underwater, it's a completely different thing to shout out when you're angrily screaming at a bunch of kids for screwing up a game.
