Who will score Michigan's first TD against Ap State and what play will it be?
I'm going with a post from DG to Funchess.
if we kick off, Peppers.
if we receive, Norfleet.
If we kick off, maybe Wile. (after a few laterals)
Special teams TD, baby !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gardner bootleg (or broken play that Gardner runs in)
the latter--a four, five yard Gardner scamper on the seventh play of Michigan's first offensive series.
But from 20 yards out!
Funchess! That's my guess.
Frank Clark. Here is one of my favorite TDs in an opening game:
LOL when the commentator said, "once he got the snap it was over"
by far. But bittersweet, man, bittersweet. . . [chokes up, quits keyboard].
Since I posted about my dream of Peppers taking the opening kickoff back for a TD, I'm gonna say Norfleet since he's returning kicks.
wolverine devotee will run onto the field and grab the ball from the official before sprinting for the endzone
Is you know he isn't gonna fumble, what with all the receiver gloves and all.
but the excessive celebration call is a given.
I wasn't always Wolverine Devotee on here. My original name was MichiganFootballs2014Freshman. My first post here in 2009 (I was 14) was about how I'd lead RR's teams to 3 national championships and win 3 Heismans.
I changed my name on here after I realized my dream would never happen. I got hurt in 8th grade football and tore up my knee pretty badly. The following year the team I would've played for dropped the tight end position and consolidated with another team.
I've failed you all. I'm so sorry.
the confession thread was yesterday. But glad to see you are studying and missed it.
Can you send me your binder with the entire 2009 MGoBoard posts printed out? The one with your comments highlighted. I want to go back and see what 14 yr old WolverineDevotee was like.
the team has on, no one will realize he's not a player until he catapults into the stands.
On a reverse
I think so too. Norfleet on a reverse or sweep from about 40 yards out.
But we just learned yesterday that the jet sweep is a constraint to the base inside zone run game. So if App State starts packing the box I'd love to see Norfleet get it on a jet sweep and take it the distance.
Green is my prediction as well. If history serves, our first TD will be a run play from a running back.
Derrick Green over the top
Derrick Green over the top
Pick 6 or PR
After we force a three and out, Peppers takes it back to the house and strikes a Heisman pose. DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Gardner finds no one open, runs it in himself.
Gardner play action to Funchess.
If we get the ball first, I say Green. If they get the ball first, I say Peppers on a punt return. I cannot wait to see which of us is right!
Funchess on the 1st posssession, 26 yards.
I'll say Peppers houses a punt return after the D forces a 3 and out on App. St first possession.
i second this.
On a screen.
I say Funchess!
Chesson on a deep post. Funchess will occupy a deep safety that allows Chesson to get down the middle of the field.
Deveon Smith 15 yards out for the score. After a nice drive by the offense to open the season.
And breaking 5 tackles on the way, dragging one defender into the end zone with him.
He will have a 40 yard scramble to the end-zone, after avoiding a sack in the backfield. I think the defense will score some points as well.
Peppers punt return after a 3 and out to start the game on D.
Hill, wide open in the flat from 3 yards out.
Green from 10 yards out!
Off tackle on 2d and 6 from the 8 yeard line.
I'll go with Derrick Green
Pretty sure we didn't have an opening game in 2007...
If it helps Mike Hart scored the first TD against Notre Dame that year.
Funchess, 45yder after smoking his man and soaring over the safety coming over to help.
in on a bootleg.
Absolutely. Rips the App St RB in two and walks in covered in Mountaineer blood and somehow on fire.
get some work done in honor of your contribution. Welcome to the board, Frenchie.
after Peppers blocks a punt :)
Pipkins with a monster sack, fumble recovery for a TD. I guarantee it.
I'm gonna go with a scramble that leads to him just waltzing up the middle of the field into the endzone!!!!!
Deveon Smith will get it after a 30-40 yard gain courtesy of Mr. Funchess (my phone just suggested this spelling, score one for Apple) after which Mr. Smith will punch it in from the 5 yard line.
App State receives the opening kickoff. The return man gets the ball jarred loose and Delonte Hollowell returns it for a touchdown
I think you meant DELONTE HOLLOWELL.
to this too.
On second play from scrimmage.
Heart says De'Veon Smith from inside the 5.
Head says Funchess on a post.
I'm saying Shane Morris to Devin Gardner. Yeah that will happen.
Gotta be Gallon, lol...DAMNIT!
Blake Countess on a pick 6.
3rd offensive play of the game:
3rd and 5 from the App St. 25 yard line...
Jake Ryan blitzes up the middle and sacks App St. QB, forcing a rolling/bouncing fumble that ends up hopping into...
Brennan Beyer on the fumble recovery, takes it to the house easily from the 25, ushering in the 2014 Michigan defense that is a force to be wreckoned with.
(A pick-six happens later in the game as well, taken to the house by Raymon Taylor, 74 yard return)
This D will be exciting, can't wait to see it in action on Saturday!
Play action rollout from about 45 to chesson. Typical nuss play.
Dymonte Thomas on a blocked punt return.
Kenny Allen fake FG keeper
scores on a skinny post ala Manningham's game winner vs. Penn St. I think Manningham was a freshman as well.
We kick exclusively field goals on the golden legs (yes, both of them) of Matt Wile, whose sniper accuracy and 95-yard range proves all other offensive plays inefficient. Michigan averages 63 points a game in non-conference play, only to see that number drop 9 points to 54 during the B10 season. Michigan's only loss comes to Rutgers when a small October hurricane sits almost directly on top of High Point Solutions Stadium for four unfortunately-timed hours, causing Wile to miss the 59 yard game-winner. Final score: 49-48 Rutgers, led by Nova's 6 TD passes and one 84 yard scamper TD.
So to answer your question, no one. No one scores a touchdown. Wile wins Heisman though, so that's cool.
So we'll go 11-1 and win the B1G Championship, which means that we'll get into the CoFoPlayoff, and if we don't lose there...
Justice Hayes on a 3rd down screen pass.
Robinson for sure..
I think we score first on a DG scramble.
AJ Williams check-down on a broken play at the goal line
Gardner rolls right, throwback screen to Justice Hayes (Ala Vincent Smith) for a 26 yard TD!!!!
on an 80-yard fly route, first possession.
and either Jabrill INT or 3 and out and Jabrill PR
To not answer the question, I think Michigan's first points are a field goal by Wile. Get the ball first and stall in the red zone. Then maybe Funchess touchdown on the next drive to go up 10-0.
in the wildcat takes it 30 yards.
On a kick-off return! My man will end a long drought and start the game day beat down!
Jake Ryan catches a ball tipped by Frank Clark at the LOS and runs it in for a TD.
Orrrrrrrrrr The Funchise on a slant from 7 yards out.
M defense on field first, forces punt. Peppers returns punt 67 yds for TD.
I recall Anthony Carter did this the first time he touched the ball in his first game as a freshman.
After what we discovered about the news strategy for developing longsnappers in the Sugar Bowl, I am shocked that no one said Scott Sypniewski. After all, in a pinch, the LS is good for some short receiving yards, right?
Realistically, however, like others I have a suspicion that the first TD will coincide with the first opportunity to shout, "ALL OF THE DEVINS!"
Kerridge on a 1/2 yard carry up the gut.
Everyone doubted me when I said Joe Reynolds would score our first td last year...
I will go with Darboh on something like a 3rd and 6 from the 10. Quick out that he turns up for the score.
AJ Williams 12-yard TD reception from Gardner with 9:47 remaining in the 1st.
I like this offense to use Darboh as a quick out guy, with Chesson on the same side blocking, and Funchess attracting too much attention opposite. 8th play of the first offensive drive, with about 11 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter.
Should be a magical year.
Pass to Green out of the back field. Great blocking down field and he makes a guy miss and out runs the rest for a 30yrd TD!! Book it!
Denard, after he fumbles the snap. Oh ? This year?
Peppers. After a quick 3 and out by the D, Peppers introduces himself to The Big House with a punt return for 6.
AJ Williams. Nobody will see it coming.
Wilson doing his best kovacs impression with a fumble sack, Ryan with a Brandon Herron scoop and score.
Funchess attracts a crowd with a zone and Jehu catches a drag underneath and then strides in the last 15 yards.
Maybe need 25-to-1 to bet Jehu though ....
Peppers returns the opening kick 93 yards for the TOUCHDOWN.
