Who missed the last 20 seconds of Minnesota NEGBANG

Submitted by MGoGrendel on

The State of our Threads just got posted, but it does not contain at least one, loud, F-bomb eminating from my family room last night.  With the last 7 years of roller coaster expectations and thundering disappointment from what used to be our football team, I turned off the game and threw down the remote after the Minnesota “touchdown”.  I went to bed mad - like so many times before.

Then I wake up to the Seth’s write up, the two (!) POSBANGS, multiple replay videos, and this:

Great win for the team and a building block for their progression.  It’s fantastic that we got the Jug back!

Shame on me for doubting.  Who else missed the end -- on purpose?  Post your confession and take your down votes!

I was at a Halloween party that (inexplicably) didn't have ESPN.  I was watching the game on my phone and a few guys huddled around that.  I turned it off after the "TD" and thought it would be better luck to be surprised if Michigan won (plus women get annoyed when you don't pay attention to them).  I checked in about 10 minutes later and couldn't figure out what happened.......so I frantically searched  the internet for an explanation.

I finally figured it out and got home around 2:00 to watch the end of the game on my DVR.  Of course, I set the recording for three and a half hours.......and the final play happend around the 3:35 mark.  Fortunately, I was able to catch some highlights before going to bed.

I really don't know what to think about Michigan after the game last night.  I realize that Minnesota caught a lot of breaks (catching deflected passes, completions into VERY small windows....).......but that's a bad team and it's a bit concerning that it came down to a goal line stand.

Jerry Kill built this program and returned it to respectability.  Hiss assistants have been with him for more than a decade.  Every player on the team committed to Coach Kill; they all played with intensity.

Add the night game atmosphere and you have a perfect opportunity for an upset.

I paused the game and moved on to chat and ESPN box score. I could not watch at the end. I was at the MSU game and it took a toll on me. So, I missed the last 2 seconds real time, but watched it in a few seconds. Man, I am getting old and losing a month of my life watching M football. But, it is worth it.

Like others, I've learned over many years that you watch until 0:00 if you're in front of the TV or, if you're at the game, you stay until the very end unless there is no way you can avoid it, and even then, you do what you can to avoid it.

When I think of the people I know that left Braylonfest early, for example, only to find out later what they missed, I tend to feel bad for those people. When I think of the people who walked out of the Virginia game in 1995, only to miss an incredible comeback, I feel bad for those people. I guess in my view - good or bad - you keep going until there is nowhere else to go.

that discusses the process of learning to win. It progresses from losing close games to learning how to win close games. I really feel it is appropriate to this years team. Sadly, I can't remember the author, and my Google Foo is not up to the task of finding it. I think this win will pay dividends in the future.

Never turn off a game early. We get so few games a year, have to go the full 60 minutes.

Now I did have my finger on the power button as I was not going to watch Minny go grab the jug.

When I thought Minnesota had scored the game winning TD, I left the room and didn't come back until my dad started yelling that we won the game. It was a candy ass move on my part, but I keep telling myself that if I had watched we would have lost lol

I almost did. I was watching with dvr and a few minutes behind real time. Saw the "touchdown" and figured the end would be painful so I watched on fast forward, then saw them lining up at the one and paused to see whether they were going for 2, looked at the score and said wtf?? So rewound and watched.

I saw Stribling get beat in slow motion, and I just hysterically laughed like Darth Sidious. It was either that or break shit. My wife and kids thought I lost it. I'm just pacing the whole house cackling, then my son says "Dad! It's over! We Won!" Of course the dolts at that four letter network didn't show the replay, so I thought he read the score wrong. To bolster their belief that I had officially gone insane, I told them that Minny had scored and it was out of reach. I walked in to see the players celebrating, and the the graphic stating the 29-26 victory, and my head aslploded.

If there is time left and a feasible comeback, hell even if there's not, you have to keep watching.  The games that really stick with you tend to be in these situations, but only if you see them live.

I will frequently turn off the TV and follow along on Twitter. I know it's lame not to watch but I find if I don't see the actual loss take place it doesn't impact me as much much. I still follow what is happening but I get to celebrate or commiserate with fellow fans.

As long as Michigan still has the lead or a chance to keep the lead, no way am I going anywhere.  In this case, some people may have quit when it looks like they scored, but didn't.  I began to believe when they went to review, and especially after I saw the replay.   Then, with our D, and Minnesota on the other side, anything can happen. And fortunately it did.

A few times in the past when Michigan was behind my several scores very late in the game, I've turned it off though.  I can't stand watching the other team celebrate.

I was sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire streaming the game on my phone. AAA guy arrived right after the Minnesota final "touchdown," so I missed the ending. Needless to say, felt rock bottom. Then the texts started streaming in. My spare tire will henceforth be known as the Wilton Speight Memorial Spare Tire.

turn it off for some reason which surprised me. Because I have in the past turned off games often in less stressful situations. I'm a "I can't watch this, arggh, I need to calm down" type guy.  I just had this weird sense that everything was going Minnesota's way and eventually the luck would have to turn our way. I genuinely had this small belief that Peppers could take the KO return to the house or at least into FG range.

I decided after the MSU game that I wasn't going to bother trying to stream games live unless we win out until OSU. So I watched the entire Minnesota game the next day, after I knew the outcome and had read all the writeups. Saved myself buckets of stress. Highly recommended.
