What 3 Things Have To Happen to get the W Next Week?

Submitted by Eli on November 23rd, 2019 at 9:08 PM

First of all a shoutout to all my Michigan Brothers that came to Bloomington for the game. It was great to meet and talk to so many Michigan fans. That was worth the drive and I'm glad I went. Staying in Indy for the night.

What 3 things need to happen to get the W next week? I will go first...

1. NO turnovers for us and we need to force at least one.

2. Fast start. We cannot fall behind.

3. DPJ needs to have his moment. Punt Return for TD, me thinks.

All of these are possible, but damn it is going to be tough. I am going to try to be optimistic this week.

Penn State showed that OSU is not invincible.  That game was far closer than many predicted.

Addendum: for the record, I agree with the trio posted above.

1. Dobbins has to be held to under 120 yds

2. No turnovers

3. Something Michigan has seemed unable to do against OSU, not allow the EZ big play tds.  If they can make Fields work the ball downfield, they can win

Some off the wall ideas:

  1. A special teams play, e.g. recovered onside kick or punt fake pass.
  2. Break OSU’s tempo.
  3. Beware of a halftime protest attempt similar to what happened in New Haven.
  4. Eliminate the Fox Sports play-by-play commentator, e.g. hack his microphone, to render him, and perhaps Urban Meyer incommunicado.
  5. Play like there is no tomorrow!

Depending on how crappy the weather is, it may hamper us more than OSU.

3 takeaways from PSU/OSU game:

1.  Exploit OSU’s issue with ball security by stripping the ball at every opportunity

2.  Spy on, not just contain, Justin Fields

3.  Patterson must play his best game as a dual-threat quarterback with better pocket presence and run decisively

The entire OSU team needs to come down with dysentery.....

But seriously, find some way, any way, to keep Fields in the pocket. I sure as hell am not banking on that. He’s going to convert several third and longs. We need to accept that now. But maybe force him to a draw in this area?

Second, find a way to force some turnovers. PSU showed today that it’s possible. You can rattle these guys. Maybe find a way to do it on the road and maybe it permanently gets them out of their comfort zone?

Third, you’ve got to put Black, DPJ and Collins in a position to carry this team. They’re your best players. They’re your best chance. Got to get the ball out fast, but get the ball in their hands and let them make plays. Haskins and Charbonnet aren’t getting very far next week.

Lastly, and for bonus points, they’ve got to believe this can happen. I know that sounds stupid and cliche, but OSU holds two decades of confidence in its hands. You can’t walk around on eggshells in this game. Take some chances. Play to win. What do you have to lose? No one in their right mind expects you to win.

Make Fields beat you with his arm.

Slow Dobbins.

Don't let Chase Young make some momentum changing play.

It'll be hard though as they are on PEDs.

Poor weather, time of possession to keep their offense off the field, a couple turnovers.  Edit side note: don't talk shit and proclaim this is a statement game.

1. First man to the ball has to make the tackle. Spread offenses crush you if the first guy misses.

2. Get two turnovers.

3. O-line blocks well enough for us to take shots downfield.

1. Limit Fields on the ground especially in high leverage situations. If he gets 3-4 yards occasionally fine. Our team has to prevent him from converting on third and medium to long.

2. Pass protection has to be good enough such that we can take advantage of our wide receivers. Must double Young and try to make it so that he doesn’t adversely affect the result.

3. Harbaugh and the coaches have got to recognize we’re going to need to score points in all likelihood to pull this off. If we are 4th and 2 or 3 in plus territory we may have to pull the ripcord and go for it.

1) Win the turnover/field position battle which leads to 10 points.

2) Patterson has to keep the ball and run several times to keep the defense honest. Quick passing decisions to mitigate Young's effectiveness.

3) Dobbins will get a fair amount of yardage, but make him work for it. No big plays. Contain Fields ability to run for big/crucial gains.

It’s quite simple and always is with football.

1-win the turnover battle

2-win time of possession

3-no stupid penalties or dumbass gimmick plays when you are driving that kill it

4-need some big returns on special teams

5- sweep the leg Johnny

1. Time for Patterson

2. No time for Fields

3. Win the turnover battle

I'm confident that if we do these 3 things we WILL win. It'll be very hard to do all of them though. With that said, the 3 of them are not independent of each other so if we do one, it'll be easy to do the others.

Wolverines going to get their arses handed to them. Sorry, but that is just the way it is. I wish it weren’t so.
