Such a wonderful, cathartic win!

At my first Rose Bowl in 1972 I saw Michigan get upset by Stanford. The last two years Michigan has beaten OSU and won the B1G Championship, only to lose to Georgia or TCU in the CFP games.

Now we can move on, sweep out the past and look forward to the future. Now we just need to learn how to snap to the ball for PAT kicks!

Well, now Michigan may cover…

Well, now Michigan may cover the points, along with holding the total points under.

As I followed the pre-game & game coverage, the bias for tOSU was obvious. So, I enjoyed listening to the Varsity Network’s play by play announcing with Doug Karsch and Jon Jansen instead of the network coverage. As visually appealing the coverage may be, the sound of good announcing is better. I still miss Jim Brandstatter & Dan Dierdorf from past years, although I’m sure they were around to witness this event. I want to also thank Sam Webb, Ira Weintraub, and the crew from the Michigan Insider for their passionate coverage. Maybe in a couple more years winning, the BigTen Network may less of a petulant supporter of tOSU.

I wonder how many people would enjoy real-time, synchronized local play-by-play audio with streaming game video, instead of the dregs of the network? Enjoy the afterglow and joy of this victory!

Oh Woody Hayes is spinning at high RPM after this game. Thank you Michigan for a wonderful game. So, we will wait and see what team Michigan will meet in Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship. In the meantime, let us savor the feelings of joy and catharsis.

Just remember that our opponents would love more film on McCarthy. One reason I think McNamara is having a tough time is the defensive schemes change when he come in the game. They know his tendencies and the play calling tendencies. Warren does not have much film to prepare from.

No, Jim Brandstatter not a bad announcer. I preferred his commentary to many ABC/ESPN announcers. I grew up watching Michigan Football in Ann Arbor, probably before you were born. I prefer the wisdom of the ages to the Cancel culture with their revisionist ic history.

No one comes out of this situation clean, yourself included. Now unless you harbor an allegiance to that team down under, please retire your pitchforks and torches to more constructive efforts.

Some off the wall ideas:

  1. A special teams play, e.g. recovered onside kick or punt fake pass.
  2. Break OSU’s tempo.
  3. Beware of a halftime protest attempt similar to what happened in New Haven.
  4. Eliminate the Fox Sports play-by-play commentator, e.g. hack his microphone, to render him, and perhaps Urban Meyer incommunicado.
  5. Play like there is no tomorrow!

I started growing my beard…

I started growing my beard over a year ago, the itchiness will go away after a few weeks with good care. There is some genetic variation as with male pattern baldness. Some people have thin sideburns and can’t rock the full face beard evenly. Your mileage can vary. When starting out, I found a lot of different beard starter kits out there. I started with a kit I bought at Ulta, the Billy Jealousy Beard Kit, which includes beard wash, beard conditioner and a good boar bristle brush for $25.

I found a good wooden comb at Striking Viking:

You may like some some beard oil or beard balm, too. Try to find a barber, who does automatically want to give the marine induction shave and haircut. One clue can be whether they have beards (Sorry, gals, but experience counts, although don’t ignore an honest woman’s opinion.)

There are several good beard/long hair barbers around A2 and Detroit.

The itchiness comes from…

The itchiness comes from dryness and using hair shampoo on your beard. Get some beard conditioner, applying some every day. Use a separate beard shampoo, and wash your beard only every 2-3 days. Brushing your beard with a boar bristle brush helps too.

Army Game - smelling salts…

Army Game - smelling salts for future performances...

Not to go off on a rant, but Michigan did pay Army West Point $1.5 millions compensation for the privilege of coming once to Ann Arbor with a return game at West Point. Would you really want a return away game next year or perhaps two years hence?

The offensive line is a work yet in progress. Runyan was in street clothes and Steuben awaits ACL surgery; so, Right Tackle guy (Mayfield), who is a redshirt freshman might be doing a fairly good job for his age. Oh, one more thing, Tru Wilson was also on the sidelines, Charbonnet was the best pass protector of the RB’s. What’s wrong with that picture?

Yes, Shea doth have a case of fumblitis. He doth not carry the ball on option this game. Could it have something to do with some aforementioned lower extremity injury last week, which he suffered while carrying the ball last week, not to mention the first play with the F...... (I will not write the six lettered word.) Alternatively, are you prepared for a lineup with Dylan McCaffrey as starting QB with Joe Milton as his backup, because Shea has suffered a significant injury?

The wide receivers run and catch the ball (most of the time) with a good distribution of variety in receptions. No jet sweep returns, no receivers running into each other. Hey, even Daxton Hill got involved with a fake punt reception. I will take S.I.S. any day, instead of S.O.S.

The special teams do their special things. Punters punt the ball without blocks or fumbles, so far. The kickers kick the ball over the goal posts, not under them, usually so far. The punt / kick receivers are learning to catch the ball and HOLDING onto it, or leaving well enough alone. So far, this is good karma for the special teams.

And the defense has kept the rushing yardage within reasonable limits. Army does not pass much, and in the end that was their undoing. Nothing to harp about here. Just Don Brown getting the defense to do Don Brown things. Be happy.

I disregard the point spread prediction and lack of ranking.  This Army football team has come a long ways from six years ago. In late September, 2014, Army went to New Haven, Connecticut to the Yale Bowl for the centennial anniversary of that football stadium. They played the Yale Bulldogs, and lost the game in OT 49-43. Under Jeff Monken for his first year, Army would go 4-8. There were many similarities between that Army-Yale game and this year’s Army-Michigan game, go ahead look it up. Army has beat Navy three years in a row and went to a bowl game last year after achieving ten wins.

One more thing, until today, Michigan had an overall losing record against Army. Army had won the first five games in a row during the mid-twentieth century, when Bo had not even become a coach at U of M. Michigan has won the last five straight games since then. The overall record for Army - Michigan is 5 - 5, without any ties. Not bad.

(For the record, Yale has a winning overall record against Army 22 - 16 with 8 ties and an even overall record against Michigan 2 - 2 without any ties. Yale has 907 overall wins; whereas Michigan has 955 overall wins; Army has 693 overall wins; Notre Dame has 920 overall wins, and Ohio State has 913 overall wins.)

So, let us continue on the road to 1000 overall wins.

My favorite pizza restaurant is Sally’s Pizza in Wooster Square, New Haven, CT.  It has hundred year old brick ovens.

I prefer to make my own pizza at home, including my own pizza dough and marinara sauce.  There is a good recipe for pizza dough at pizzatherapy.com.  Regardless of what kind of pizza, I use a large pizza stone in the oven; they also work well on gas grills.

2) votes on posts, either net total or itemized up and down, are not visible.  No effective way to vote on posts as well.

OL rebuilding

If the incoming freshmen do not manifest any immediate solutions at either tackle position, I assume they will be redshirted for strengthening and conditioning, but will not see the field until 2019. Educate me, if I at fault.

Nonetheless, for 2019 recruiting, my wish is for 4-5 4* recruits, equally divided between interior and tackle. That does not include TE or FB. Pass protection is a priority, but we must develop a strong running game as well.

Finally, If McElwain cannot help us with recruiting the SouthEast, he must excel with receivers to earn a second year.

Wow!

Just wow!
