What's your dream matchup for a Michigan game.

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
So what would be your dream matchup for a Michigan sports team? Include opponent and venue and any other description you think will be helpful. I've got two to put out there. Probably not what may be common but they're mine. 1) Michigan hockey in the finals of the Frozen Four at Ford Field this spring against an east coast power like B.C. I'm a huge Michigan hockey fan and I'm jealous of what I saw at the Final Four with the Sparties getting to have a national final in a huge venue that was essentially a home game. 2) I'd love to see Michigan vs. Notre Dame in New York. Would have loved to see it at Yankee Stadium but the chance to see New York City taken over by Maize & Blue and Blue & Gold and be a college football town for a weekend would be something and I know our New York alums would represent and have been dying for the chance to see the team.

Cosign for football. There's no one I hate more than OSU; therefore there's no one I love to play more than OSU. For hockey: MSU at Yost. Especially when Ryan Miller was in goal. MSU at the Michigan Stadium might top it though -- the Cold War was fantastic.

I would like to see Michigan play USC in late November in the middle of a blizzard and the temperature in the teens at noon. I have always wondered how these teams from warm weather would perform in conditions like that.

You know, I was going to say something like: "USC plays ND every other year in South Bend and some years it is probably cold" and then I decided to look it up: You have to go back to 1959 to find a date when USC played in South Bend in November, all of the games since have been in October, which is usually not that nasty in terms of weather... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_%E2%80%93_USC_rivalry

My brother in-law and I have discussed this at length. We just want RichRod to basically say on TV some time that they'll play anyone in a home-and-home series if and only if the home game for Michigan is in November. Nobody can insult Michigan for not playing better teams if Michigan is willing and the other teams aren't. I really do get upset that the Pac10 (mostly USC) plays in perfect weather all the time and then all their bowls are either indoors or in the south. They never have to play in the cold! It's one of the things I hate the most about college football. Of course it doesn't help the Rose Bowl is a home game for the Pac10 team every year.

No kidding. As a die hard UM-er who grew up in Ann Arbor and went to UM, living here in Atlanta is like being on the moon. I would just love to take a road trip to Athens and to shut those SEC homers up....and the broads....oh the ladies. I do have to give them that. Also...I would have absolutely loved to see UM vs. OSU in the BCS championship game in 2006. I think we smoke them in a rematch on a neurtral field.

Agreed 100% on both points. I spent a year in Atlanta and would gladly go back. Fun times. I think a lot of times though, Michigan girls are more friendly. Midwest Hospitality vs Southern Hospitaly... I'd say midwesterners are nicer to strangers whereas once you meet people from the South, (while they're nice initially) they certainly do warm up to you.

I already have two tickets for NEXT year's game with OSU. I've never been to a game in Columbus, but to go down to enemy territory, have OSU higher ranked, but Michigan stomp them, in their own house, yes, that would be my dream game. As much as I want the win this year, I would be shocked for it to happen. But to win decisively against the Buckeyes after having lost six years in a row . . . that would be the ultimate. I also believe Michigan will never again lose so many games in a row, so that game will be an incredible release and source of joy.

Michigan vs. Georgia Tech. I would love to see the fully implemented spread read zone option versus the archaic power of the triple option. I also love Paul Johnson as a coach, and felt he was the only other logical choice besides RichRod to reinvent Michigan. Plus his Navy teams were probably the greatest things to watch ever. 400 yards on the ground like it was nothing.

I would love to see UM beat USC in Miami for the National Championship. On a variation of an earlier comment, let's see how USC does with unbiased officiating and no homefield advantage. With RR at the helm, I actually feel that UM shouldn't get blown out by USC anymore. I really got sick of hearing USC players talk about how they knew what Carr was going to run before he ran it. Also, USC seemed to have a lot better conditioning program. I think RR has corrected both of those situations, and USC will be in for a big surprise the next time they strut into a game against UM.

There have been many years where I wanted to prove that Michigan was the best football team in the state. A victory over the Lions @ Ford Field would be football porn for me...

Well this is a dream right? Then it would be all of the best players from the past of Michigan versus all of the best players from the past of Ohio State. Every player would be in his prime. The game would be played at Michigan stadium in early fall. The entire crowd besides me would be all topless super hot Swedish chics. The coin toss would be done by the newest Detroit Lion, fresh out of retirement, Barry Sanders. After the coin toss he left on that unicorn from CLASH OF THE TITANS.....but that is all just a dream.....

(1) Michigan v. Army @ Yankee Stadium (Neutral Site Away Game Against a Service Academy) re: we are one game behind them all time and need to get even (2) Michigan v. Texas @ Michigan Stadium (Home and Home Series) re: we need to revenge that Rose Bowl heartache P.S. Not to pick on Uconn, but why couldn't we have gotten Army for the home opener in 2010? At least there's some history there.

lets go back in time Michigan Vs Nebraska Jan 15 1998, after all the bowl games were over I wish they could have played this game, because I believe the coaches voted Nebraska national champions because Osborne was retiring and just to be fair the game would be played in St Louis, that way each team would have about the same travel

Michigan shitstomping Florida in Gainesville. Florida is the new Thug U and Urban Meyer is a whiny bitch who in a recent poll would be smacked in the face by 98% Americans.

I would've LOVED to see U-M play ND in Yankee Stadium in NYC...when I lived there...but I know believe my dream matchup would be: Michigan v LSU...the current coach v the man who could (should?) have been coach at U-M)...in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl!! Almost happened in 2007, when Carr was still coach, but I would LOVE to see that matchup and, while it might never happen, with the new rules, it's more possible than ever! Not in January 2010 but, perhaps, in January 2011!

I like the nebraska idea, but I would also go with playing tennessee from that same year. The osborn thing wouldn't have mattered if Fulmer wasn't pissed about his pretty boy manning not getting the highsman and voting us so low in the polls.

Im a Michigan fan living in Oklahoma right now. These guys are pretty passionate about Oklahoma football. Not as passionate as michigan fans but they are still pretty crazy. They have a uniform here. Heres what i mean by that. Any time you step out of your home or go to a store all you see is guys rockin cacky cargo style shorts, an oklahoma shirt, a oklahoma backward baseball cap, and some running shoes. Atleast 85% of guys you will see out and about are wearing the uniform. Anyhow, this would be a good matchup, i would love to see Michigan destroy OU, especially if they played the game at OU.

A night game down in Baton Rouge would be amazing, and a return night game in AA would be as well. Yes, I know it's not ever happening. #2: Home game in November against USC for all the reasons already mentioned. #3: Home and home against Texas; Austin is a great place #4: Home and home against Tennessee: two huge stadiums

I'd love to play a home and home against Texas - the #1 and #2 schools as far as winning. Agreed that Austin is an awesome place. Plus my best friend went to UT and the shit talking from the Rose bowl needs to come to an end. For Basketball - UNC, in the national championship - a win and bye bye sparty, it was a nice run. Hockey - Either a western conference team or an east coast power in the NC, in Detroit as was mentioned above.
