Anybody have a place to watch

Anybody have a place to watch in Kaiserslautern? Stuck at ROB and the game is not on AFN.

Love the gnats. Can't wait to

Love the gnats. Can't wait to finally see Michigan sports in southeast Georgia!

Thank goodness!

A lot of undergrads needed your tutelage.

Duty station

Where was his duty station while in the Navy?  For example, if he established residency in California while in the Navy, he would be entitled to in state tuition there.  If he had kept Michigan as his permanent residence, which you can do no matter where you are stationed, you maintain the right to in state tuition.  If you establish residency somewhere else, which many in the military do for lower tax rates, auto insurance, etc, you gain the benefits of that state.

Offensive fouls

I believe aOSU wasn't called for any offensive fouls. Has that ever happened for a road team in the Big Ten?

Chiddy

Good game for Chiddy.  Wondering how she'll adjust without getting to bat behind Dorian, but I think she is ready to lead this team and maintain her production.

Patrick Omameh

Patrick Omameh

Omameh

I wouldn't be surprised to see Omameh as a captain.

just win

My friend's dad is on the Sugar Bowl selection committee.  He said as long as we win, we're in.

80 kids from my graduating

80 kids from my graduating class go to App. I hate going home.

moving up

ASU is currently investigating a move to the FBS subdivision.

Just us.

Just us.

It is so great to be able to

It is so great to be able to complain about officiating instead of Bob Bradley after a game.

Elbel

As a student, I would hate for them to take away Elbel.  There are very few options for student recreation already.  Taking away that field from students would eliminate the best field available for student use.

Danger Nesbitt

Danger Nesbitt is actually Stephen's older brother, also a Michigan student.

Friday breakfast at

Friday breakfast at Biscuitville (I know the founder's daughter), lunch at Chick-fil-a, dinner at Bojangles, and Cookout as a late night victory celebration.  Then drive to Greensboro to go to Stamey's on Saturday.

Plane tickets from Detroit to

Plane tickets from Detroit to Charlotte are well over $600 dollars for the weekend.  Are there any wealthy alums who want to subsidize student trips to Charlotte?  I will pay for my own Bojangles, Chick-fil-a, and Lexington style BBQ.

sustained fan support

To answer your question, it will take continued success from the team.  A good product on the court will lead to better fan support.

The renovations should help a lot too.  Making the overall fan experience better will pull in more fans from the non student population.  Additionally, I've heard that the athletic department is willing to expand the bleacher section to both sides of the court, but that they need to have consistent enought ticket sales that they know that half of the premium seats won't be empty on television.

My HS

That's my high school.  We haven't had a major D-1 prospect since Darrell Jalloh played for RR at WVU.

overlap

If this happens, we are going to have to choose between traveling to Pasadena to watch Michigan in the Rose Bowl and being in Ann Arbor for a great showcase for the city.

B's is great.  Both of those

B's is great.  Both of those have an excellent waitress pool of ECU coeds.

It was obvious you knew what

It was obvious you knew what you were talking about, but I wanted to make sure that the MGOmasses knew the difference.  That would be like a UNC or Duke basketball fan coming up here and getting Bo and Woody confused.

I have been to Bullock's.

I have been to Bullock's.  Also, check this out:  http://www.ncbbqsociety.com/trail_map.html  I did the eastern half last summer and I'm doing the western half this year.  Growing up in the middle, I have an appreciation for both, but my uncle ran a Lexington style place for 3 years, so I have always had that as a preference.  Especially a nice coarse-chop with hushpuppies.

NC BBQ

To be completely accurate, not all NC sauce is vinegar or mustard base.  There are 2 distinct styles of sauce, Eastern and Western.  The line is drawn around Burlington/Greensboro.  Western style is tomato based.  Eastern style is mustard/vinegar and many restaurants take pride in using no tomato at all.  I'm from the middle ground and get the best of both worlds, but there is a fierce divide in the state.

Seconded

I did research for him and took his Pacific Islands class.  He's an excellent teacher and very entertaining.

Replays

It was really cool to have video boards.  Yost needs to have some.

open competition

I believe he said it would be an open competition for the kickers, not an open tryout.

Shaw-Tate

I know that they are really good friends off the field.  Maybe there is a chemistry thing there?

Bear

The bear is very significantly historically for the region.  It has it's own Civil War heritage, just like the Tennessee Volunteers or North Carolina Tar Heels.  The three Ole' Miss students and alumni I know are in favor of the bear.

I grew up with Duke

I grew up with Duke basketball, Dad was an alum, and went to plenty of games at Cameron growing up.  I can still name every Duke starting line up from 98-06.  When we played Duke twice my freshman year I was whole heartedly cheering for Michigan both times.  When I went home for Christmas, I hide 20 copies of the Michigan Daily from our victory over Duke in my dad's office.  He actually found one this morning and gave me a call.  My college has definitely trumped my childhood team.

Denard Robinson

is too fast

Denard Robinson

is too fast for the Irish.

five-hundred two yards.

Nothing was premeditated.

Nothing was premeditated.  There was a lot of enthusiasm after Shaw's touchdown, but his teammates came over and made sure he stopped celebrating before the refs had to become involved.

As a Carolina boy in Ann

As a Carolina boy in Ann Arbor for school I get excited for signs of home like that.  When I am home, I get just as excited for signs of Michigan.

Cheerwine?

I'm from Greensboro, NC and I was just wondering if that was Cheerwine you brought from the South or if you found it in Michigan.  I've always been under the impression that it could only be purchased in the Carolinas.  If it's available here, where did you get it?

To be fair, everyone in NC

To be fair, everyone in NC calls the Hurricanes the Canes.

Agreed

I agree completely.  I had the benefit of good coaching in high school and was recruited to walk on by a lot of my local schools (Duke, App St, UNC, Wake Forest).  They actually told me that I was  technically about as good as I could get thanks to that coaching, but had also just about exhausted my potential.

When it comes to recruiting kickers, they tend to find the raw guy with the big leg and hope he responds well to coaching.  There are a lot of variables, especially since you have to make the transition from kicking off of a block to kicking off grass.

For punting, they can take any large kid with a soccer background and turn him into a monster with good coaching.  I was told that to be an ideal punter I would need to grow atleat 5 inches and gain 50 pounds.

Does anyone know if it is in

Does anyone know if it is in stores yet?

Page

Page high school was as dominant as they come in the late 80s and early 90s.  It looks as if they are starting to move back to prominence, but with the redistricting of the late 90s sending a lot of their better neighborhoods to Western Guilford, (my alma mater,) they will probably never be as good as they were before.

Hornets

I grew up a Hornets fan and losing that team was devastating.  They were good when they left (Baron Davis, Jamal Mashburn, Jamal Magloire, PJ Brown).  What makes is worse is that they now have hometown hero Chris Paul and the Bobcats are stuck with Raymond Felton.

I stopped by all the Ann

I stopped by all the Ann Arbor bookstores today to try and pick it up before an 18 hour train trip.  Alas, they do not have it yet, but I hope they do when I return in a week.  It should give me something to look forward to.

Woody

Any of the numerous Tar Heels on the board want to second my nomination for Woody Durham?  He and Mick Mixon were a great tandem for UNC sports and Mick is now doing great things as the play-by-play guy for the Carolina Panthers.  I'm making this nomination despite my childhood allegiance to Duke.

Of course not.  I wasn't sure

Of course not.  I wasn't sure quite how to word it, but they generally have the ability to take a few more chances on a situation because their families have the financial means to help them out.

In my non expert opinion, it

In my non expert opinion, it kind of depends on the school.  I think less affluent schools are more likely to send a lot of players to the same place because the players need to trust that the schools are going to be the place to take advantage of their opportunity to move beyond what may have been a rough childhood.  In other words, if a teammate has had a good experience it seems like less of a risk.

Kids from wealthier families may take looks at more schools and feel comfortable knowing they have the family support if football doesn't work out.

Those are just my thoughts and they could be way off base.

School Districts

Mecklenburg County had a school of choice program for a while that allowed Independence to stock up on talent and win 7 consecutive state championships.  Now that the program has been limited the talent in the area is distributed a little more evenly.  Northern Guilford is turning into a recruiting hot bed as well and Cal may have the pipeline there after flipping Keenan Allen away from Alabama on signing day.

Butler pipeline

Butler and Charlotte Independence have been winning 4A state championships as long as I can remember.  Having a pipeline into the Charlotte area (one of the most rapidly growing in the country) would be great for the future.

As there are technically no bars in NC

Any sports themed restaurant will have the games.  Buffalo Wings and Rings in Greensboro ordered BTN for me last year just so I could watch the Delaware State game over fall break and dropped it the next month.  That is our Southern Hospitality at its finest.

The MGoStore should have

The MGoStore should have bumper stickers.  That would be awesome.

Actually, it was a women's

Actually, it was a women's club hockey player.

From NC, dad went to Duke

I grew up with the Duke-UNC rivalry and the intensity is year round because all the graduates live and work with each other.  Until about 2003, ESPN ranked UM-OSU number one and Duke-UNC number two.  Then ESPN bought the broadcasting rights to Duke-UNC from Raycom and our recent futility against OSU began.  Our losing streak combined with ESPN's self promotion have caused that game to be so loved by ESPN.  I do think that UM-OSU is a better rivalry, but Duke-UNC is special and is the basketball equivalent of the game.

Frost

The drive from Charlotte to Ann Arbor really isn't that much further than the drive would be to Auburn.  It takes me about 9.5 hours to get to Ann Arbor and it takes about 7 to get to Auburn.  Either way, it isn't a day trip.
