An out-of-towner's thoughts on Michigan

Submitted by SportsBrewKings on
I'm honestly not sure what I'm trying to say in this post... I'm sitting in my Michigan hotel after a 12 hour drive straight from South Carolina, typing this from my phone. I couldn't sleep last night. My nerves are shot. I'm excited, anxious, nervous, confident, worried and tired. I've got a stomach full of energy drink, Cheerwine and Hungry Howie's pizza. I listened to WTKA (or WKTA?) through my Droid the entire drive. I blasted The Victors as I entered Ohio and screamed obscenities at the entrance sign. I have no clue what to expect tomorrow...but I do know this; it is an absolute privilege to be a Michigan fan. I drive for one game a year and the excitement never gets old. I feel honored to call myself a fan of this team and to share this special bond with the Wolverine family is something I am very proud of. Like I said, I have no idea what I'm trying to say but from this misplaced South Carolina-born Wolverine, it makes my day to simply give a "Go Blue" to you guys in person. This is such a special place for me and no matter what hardships this team goes through, there is nothing better than celebrating the euphoria of being a Michigan fan. I wish I could be here for every game. I wish I had more time to bond with Michigan fans. Thank you to the fans I encounter who make my annual trip so memorable. We share more than just a common interest...we share a passion for a team that most will call arrogance, because win or lose, WE ARE MICHIGAN. Tomorrow that team will run from that tunnel, slap that banner and remind us yet again just how honored we are to call this a Michigan family. I will be amongst you, this misplaced Michigan fan, cheering for those winged helmets. Never take this place for granted. Watching Desmond strike that pose turned me into a Wolverine at the age of 6. I am so thankful for that because I can't imagine cheering for another team. I am thankful to this University, our tradition, Coach Rodriguez, the legacies of coaches past and the bright future ahead. Thank you all for your hospitality and lets run the Huskies out of the Big House tomorrow. THOSE WHO STAY WILL BE CHAMPIONS. Go Blue!

I know the feeling.  This is the only time of the year that I regret moving away.  Cherish every second that you're this weekend, soon enough you'll be back to bar stool arguements between Clemson and 'Cocks fans that for some reason think anyone outside of this state cares about them.  Go Blue!

I wish more fans felt this way:

This is such a special place for me and no matter what hardships this team goes through, there is nothing better than celebrating the euphoria of being a Michigan fan.

And as a fan stranded down in Texas, I am extremely jealous that you're up in Michigan right now, gearing up for the game.  Go Blue!

"as I entered Ohio and screamed obscenities at the entrance sign"

Oh memories, me and a buddy used to roll down the windows when crossing back into Michigan from Ohio and berate the state. Have to force myself to sleep soon,  need to go for a run in the morning to offset the tailgating. Nine minutes till gameday.

Hail!

From Greer, SC, glad you are up there to represent. Enjoy the game tomorrow, and thanks for the thoughts. I'm sure you must be riding sky high for this trip. Go Blue.

I'm from Greensboro, NC and I was just wondering if that was Cheerwine you brought from the South or if you found it in Michigan.  I've always been under the impression that it could only be purchased in the Carolinas.  If it's available here, where did you get it?
