This Week in Schadenfreude - crowdsourced
With all the upsets yesterday it just reminds me of the Sunday post I miss most: TWIS
So I ask the readers of this here blog to bring forth your favorite bits of Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Iowa and Nebraska tears. Or who ever else has been miserable after Saturday. I thank you all ahead of time
Freeman showed his capability card Okla State. He n Rees suck. Harry sux. And because of them the team is terrible
flat out terrible. I didn’t sign up for players excited to see their new coach. I signed up for Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Joe Moore, Lou and Anti woke kick ass ball
soft. Unimaginative. Pitiful

"Fuck, I got so hammered yesterday I woke up on October 1st."

It's still hilarious and remarkable that they wouldn't wait for the buyout to be halved on October 1st. They had to dump him right then and there. It was a move with genuine anger behind it, I would say, and I can't stop chuckling in the direction of Lincoln.

One of his quotes from the presser was “I didn’t have any answers” for what Ga Southern was doing.
As the head coach, that can’t be your truthful response. I know the dude liked to throw everyone under the bus, so this admission that he was being outschemed by a Sun Belt team was enough to finally rip off the bandaid when everyone knew he had to be 3-1 after the Oklahoma game to have a prayer of being retained.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:33 AM ^
Not sure when that GA Southern game was scheduled, but I'm guessing it was done so when the Eagles were still a triple option team. They went through quite the transformation during the offseason, ditching their traditional run-oriented offense for a pass-heavy Air Raid look under new coach Clay Helton. I know it wasn't the first game of the season, but I can see it being difficult to plan for a team with an entirely new system and only one game of film to go through.
That said, lol @ Scott Frost.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
On the other hand, it's a team going through quite the transformation during the offseason, installing a completely different offense with probably most of the same players recruited for a triple option offense or transfers. Nebraska has been running the same offense (which was not bad) and defense (which was very bad) for several years now and have faced similar offenses in the past. They shouldn't have been that surprised.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:45 AM ^
Also, like, they're Nebraska, and Georgia Southern is Georgia Southern. They should be able to handle a weird scheme based on sheer speed/strength/size/talent advantage.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:37 AM ^
I definitely agree. It's almost as if Frosty Boy didn't even realize that GA Southern had switched schemes and was surprised when they lined up in a standard shotgun formation on the first play from scrimmage.
"Uhh, what? I thought these dudes ran the option? What the fuck film have we been watching?!"
September 12th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
They should be able to handle a weird scheme based on sheer speed/strength/size/talent advantage.
This is a funny/interesting comment compared to the amount of whining that goes on in here when Michigan schedules AFA or Army.
September 12th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
Well, as nail-bitey and irritating as those games can be, we haven't lost to Army since 1955 and we've never lost to Air Force.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
I feel like Michigan needs to play Army one more time. The 2019 game lifted our record vs. Army to 5-5 all time. While it pleases me that we no longer have a losing record vs. that academy, I would like to push the needle into "winning record."
Incidentally, that 2019 season evened our record with Army, our bowl game loss to Alabama moved our all-time record vs. the Tide to 2-3, so Michigan still had a losing record against 18. With our loss to Georgia, we now have losing records against 19 teams.
I don't think we'll have a chance to even things up with Cleveland A.A., Wesleyan, or Chicago Athletic Club, I feel like Michigan should start chipping away at that number by scheduling Tennessee, Arizona State, and Cornell. We only need to reel off 6 victories in a row against Cornell to even our record at 12-12.

Roll Bama Roll website does this on a weekly basis. Here is the meltdown from fanbases for week 1:
The week 2 one should be up tomorrow and Nebraska should be front and center

"I didn’t sign up for players excited to see their new coach. I signed up for Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Joe Moore, Lou and Anti woke kick ass ball."
Since you're Notre Dame, you're much more deserving of Gerry Faust, Bob Davie, Ty Willingham and Charlie Weiss. Go Marshall!!!!
September 11th, 2022 at 11:08 PM ^
The tell with him is he only celebrates the white guys.
September 11th, 2022 at 11:58 PM ^
Unless I missed somebody, all of Notre Dame's coaches have been white except for Freeman and Ty Willingham. And there aren't a whole lot of people celebrating the 21-15 Ty Willingham era.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:17 AM ^
The real tell is that he said he wanted “anti-woke” football… whatever the hell that is.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:28 AM ^
"anti-woke" means he doesn't want a black dude coaching.
September 12th, 2022 at 7:40 AM ^
Could mean something different. The guy is younger and arguably handsome. He's a better coach for TV, but maybe not for actually winning football games.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
It's 100% code for "I don't want this black guy coaching my team."
What the fuck else does "anti-woke" mean in this context lol? He wants to jail transgenders and keep women in the kitchen from the football field?
September 12th, 2022 at 8:42 AM ^
No, it doesn’t
September 12th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Wait?! I thought he was Asian
September 12th, 2022 at 8:15 AM ^
Good news then, because ND played like they were asleep.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:17 AM ^
And sometimes an anti-woke meme is a pretty obvious tell.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:46 AM ^
Have they had a non-white head coach worth celebrating?
The “anti-woke” thing is much more of a tell.
September 12th, 2022 at 7:00 AM ^
This right here on both accounts.
The point was clear w/o adding the 'anti-woke' dog whistle.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:19 PM ^
I don't have a reference, but my favorite TWIS from the past is the one where a Rutgers fan reported that his dog shit on the rug after being scared by his loud screaming.
September 12th, 2022 at 11:43 AM ^
Well, my kid peed on the couch because he fell asleep a half hour before the Jordan Poole shot and woke up when I started screaming and jumping around the house. So that sort of thing can go either way.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
What does your "Anti woke kick ass ball" mean? That sounds pretty f'n racist, bro. Maybe Freeman sucks, but Charlie Weis and Bob Davies also sucked. I'm sure Notre Dame didn't hire him in an effort to be "woke".
September 11th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Oh shut up.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
I will def take your advice as most people do to anonymous internet sources. Thanks.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Just no
September 11th, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
They aren't my words. I think you missed the point of TWIS.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:25 PM ^
Got it. Didn’t realize you were quoting. Apologies

Ever vigilant. A lonely sentinel dedicated to eradicating all hints of ism's wherever they may be found.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
A beautiful sentiment.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:26 PM ^
Yea. I spend all my time worrying about this.
September 12th, 2022 at 2:44 AM ^
Beyond misattributing it to OP, this being downvoted is asinine. No one asking for "anti-woke football" (what the fuck is that?) In the context of a new black coach has good intentions lol.
Michigan being generally blue means I forget how many bitter old men frequent this place.
September 12th, 2022 at 7:09 AM ^
Can be a great place to talk FB, BB beer, golf, other school's f'ups etc. but a tough place to touch on social justice and fairness issues even when they overlap with sports.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:58 AM ^
My favorite part is the "anti-" aspect. It's not even the more neutral "non-woke," which, in the context of football still makes no sense. But what would anti-woke football even be?
"This run off tackle on first and 10 is designed to dismantle the BLM movement. On second and 8 we will close all gender neutral bathrooms. Then, our third and 4 play will return same-sex marriage to state legislatures."
September 12th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
Yes, all things that give you sad and frowny faces in your tummy tum are racist.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
I take it you misread the OP. Italics means he's quoting from elsewhere.

Re Frost's firing (from CornNation.com):
Scott's 5 football seasons were like the Kubler-Ross stages of grief for fans.....
- 1st season: denial
- 2nd season: anger
- 3rd season: bargaining
- 4th season: depression
- 5th season: acceptance
September 11th, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
This is from a few years ago, but dang all that Nebraska losing has gotta hurt worse than what we went through with RR.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:36 PM ^
Definitely worse that RR. Frost was one of their own.
September 12th, 2022 at 12:53 AM ^
Frost got 100% support from all media, former players, and former coaches. Rodriguez got a giant "eat a dick" from about 95% of that group around here, most especially the Free Press hit job that pretty much killed his program.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:53 AM ^
RR is a sexual predator who left his alma mater for money and wasn’t a good coach.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:42 AM ^
And, unless he suddenly changed his spots when he came to Tucson, our local media seems to have looked the other way on his off-field behavior.
People need to let go of the idea that he was some kind of victim.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:43 AM ^
No, poor Rich was a victim. That canard will live for ever on this blog
September 12th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
RR killed his own program.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:43 AM ^
Nice touch with the Wendy's logo.
