Week Five - What will you bee watching - or following?

Submitted by Amazinblu on September 26th, 2023 at 10:45 AM

After an interesting week four - this weekend's matchups offer additional insight to conference play as the number of undefeated teams decreases.  Entering this week's play - there are 27 undefeated teams.   These games are on my radar - with an interesting Friday night game to start the action.

Friday evening:

  • Utah (10) at Oregon State (19) - 9:00 pm

Saturday noon:

  • USC (8) at Colorado (19) - noon - USC's defense vs the Buffs offense - who has what?
  • Florida (22) at Kentucky (NR) - noon - Kentucky is 4-0.  The winner might compete for the SEC East.

Saturday afternoon:

  • Michigan (2) at Nebraska (NR) - 3:30 pm - Go Blue!
  • Georgia (1) at Auburn (NR) - 3:30 pm - Should be an "easy" Georgia win - or, does Auburn have something in the tank.
  • Kansas (24) at Texas (3) - 3:30 pm - Can Lance and Kansas upset Texas in Austin?

Saturday evening:

  • LSU (13) at Ole Miss (20) - 6:00 pm - A must win for Ole Miss.
  • ND (11) at Duke (17) - 7:30 pm - Is Duke for real?   Will ND have a hangover?
  • South Carolina (NR) at Tennessee (21) - 7:30 pm - Can South Carolina upset Tennessee on the road?   Will Milton have another solid game?
  • Michigan State (NR) at Iowa (NR) - 7:30 pm.  Will this be the equivalent of looking for a wreck at a Nascar race?

Are any of the above of interest to you?    Other games you'll be following?

Enjoy ... Go Blue!

Oh buzz off with this thread. Honestly, seeing your title, it stings a little bit. You are really poking at a hornet's nest, posting like this. But, to bee real, I would say: can't people just double check their thread titles before posting?

As for a real answer: I will watch UM; MSU/Iowa will be a real buzz kill.

The first time I went I thought it was overpriced. The taste was nothing special and the restaurant was dirty. Everything felt sticky from the tabletop to the catsup packet.

But my wife liked it so we went back. The second time I went, it was fast food nirvana, so I don’t know what to think.

I understand that when you're a biased media type you gotta keep your junkies hooked but MSU has to be up there with A&M in thinking they are a much bigger deal than the reality.  Even if MSU could triple Freeman's salary (which is a big if given the fact they've had financial issues before), why would be take such a massive drop in resources and outlook?  Now, maybe ND would let him walk because he seems like a guy who can be outcoached by Ryan Day but otherwise there are more realistic good options out there than thinking you could woo away a young guy just because you were stupid enough to overpay for a shitty coach last time.

I have a feeling that even MSU wouldn't replace one weird sex pest (Tucker) with a guy who covered up spousal abuse by an assistant coach and was caught getting a lap dance in a Hooters after a game while an NFL coach.  There are students at that school who would (rightfully) burn that athletic department down if that happened.  Maybe I'm wrong and they'll just go after one of Art Briles's kids, but it feels like they'd have to hire the most boring, no-issues guy around after Tucker.

I get seeing something in Jordan Davis and Kayvon Thibodeaux, even if I think Thibodeaux was a bit overrated coming out of college and hasn't shaken that tag thus far early in his career.  But Malik Willis is already on the outs at Tennessee in basically a year and feels like a poor man's Joe Milton (big arm, some athleticism but accuracy issues).

I'll be watching M obviously then two of three teams I love to rage-watch hoping they'll lose.  Go Duke & Iowa although I must admit rooting against MSU right now feels almost cruel.

Oh F that - hand a hundee on him Cade - Get young Brian that new contract he so richly deserves.

I was impressed with the fight of the MSU defense in the second half against Maryland.  You talk about humble pie.  When they panned out on that stadium there MIGHT have been 7,500 people in there.  They were playing for absolutely nothing but pride and held Maryland without additional points for seven straight possessions before that interception sealed it.

So the sheep here can joke about MSU as much as they want, and i am partially one of them.  But i have to say, i think MSU did play their asses off and did not quit.  I DO think they played hard.  I just think they are not that good, and the offense and coaching is so horrible, they put soooo much pressure on a defense that is actually trying IMO.

The defense does have parts, but the whole is just not good.

They didn't "quit" but I was also left with a sense that Maryland wasn't all that good.  Maryland isn't a Washington-level team but MSU's defense is atrocious and their offense has a couple of pieces and they were somewhat in this game way longer than they should have.

That said, it'll be interesting to see if any MSU players hit the portal this week.  They've got their 4 games in and still redshirt.

I love an underdog so I might even root for MSU if not for, institutionally they didn’t feel a single shred of shame or remorse for straight-up jumping Michigan players. I have zero assurances it won’t happen again. It might even get worse.

So no, fuck them, may they suffer humiliating defeat after humiliating defeat until their stadium is completely empty. I’d be the first to welcome them when they simply stop being shitty toxic pieces of shit, but I’m not waiting around for it.

MSU isn't good, but they looked better to me against MD than I thought they were going to—I thought the game was closer than the final score indicated. If the game was in EL I could easily envision a Sparty upset, but I'm reluctant to predict that in Iowa City.

I was thinking it was in East Lansing. You're probably right then - not sure I see them pulling it off in Iowa City but I think it'll be closer than expected

Or maybe Noah Kim will throw 4 picks against Iowa's cover 2 and it'll be a blow out. I could see it going either way
