USC Sanctions
Per Bruce Feldman:
USC has been hit with a two-year post-season ban in addition to the loss of scholarships, among other penalties from the NCAA.
Hallelujah if that is true.
I can't help but feel bad for kids like Matt Barkley. While I despise USC unlike any other program in the land, Barkley seems like a humble kid with his head on straight and a ton of talent to boot. And now he is screwed because of the transgressions of others, and Lane Kiffin is now his head coach. I bet his head is swimming right about now.
ESPN doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about. They have reported three times now that a decision would be coming down when it wasn't. They are literally just throwing darts at the wall at this point.
This is the latest from the people who actually know what is going on at USC:

We'll all know soon enough, but ESPN seriously needs to just shut up until the official announcement comes at this point from either SC or the NCAA.

My thoughts exactly.
I would think a bunch of rich guys like that could afford a dart board.
A dartboard is way too confining. They need a lot more space to express themselves creatively (i.e. make shit up).
Loose a turn... Really?
Watch it again tonight. You really have to pay close attention.
I think he was referring to the misspelling of "lose a turn" not the mat itself
I've never really respected context clues.
I frequently do presentations for my government clients. I've got another one in a few weeks. They are the undisputed World Champions when it comes to "jumping to conclusions" (worse, they begin making half-assed decisions based on those conclusions).
This is now going to be a picture in the slide deck I show them next time. Hopefully, they'll get the message.
What exactly was found that they did? Those are some serious penalties. No bowl games for two years? That's gotta hurt.
Yes that hurts...in fact it still hurts...
Here is Matt Hinton's (Dr. Saturday) post on the topic from today, basically saying the same thing though it also says the penalties are expected to fall heaviest on the basketball program. It quotes anonymous sources at USC.

Bottom line on sportscenter says 2 year postseason ban as well as loss of scholarships...but until they at least put it on espn.com im not sure i believe it.
Well here you go...

Mmmm.... the taste of justice.
How big of an effect does everyone think this will have on their recruiting?
Does Seantrel immediately transfer, sitting out his redshirt freshman season somewhere to play next year?
We suddenly have an available schollie.
...it is being offered by the mathletic department.

If the NCAA wants to twist the knife, they'll do what they did with Alabama and allow a window of opportunity for players to transfer without having to sit out a year. Open the floodgates.
Dillon Baxter, Come on Down!!!
Sean Parker come on down
Sean Parker went to Washington, not USC.
Plus, Dillon Baxter was also a bomb-ass safety prospect, as well as being one of the best RB (if not the best) prospects in the 2010 class. Whichever side of the ball he plays on, he will be absolutely fantastic.
I think my nipples just got hard.
Please let it happen.
I beleive OSU was his second choice, so that would suck.
It probably doesn't, so I'd imagine Seantrel will stay put.
i think appealing could make the effect on recruiting worse. it prolongs the period of uncertainty.
That will hurt more than the bowl ban. Wonder if it's spread over several years.
probably 5 a year for 4 years or something to that affect. 1 year would essentially get rid of an entire class. Regardless, thats 20 roster spots now filled with walk-ons rather than schollie players.
If this all comes to pass I hope Pete Carroll gets hammered by the media. Not only for the violations but for leaving in the dead of night before it all it the fan.
most people would have done the same thing...
or would you have rather stayed only to get fired/reamed w/o any job offers anywhere?
I'm personally glad Kiffin's gonna go through some hurtin' the next two years..
Has anyone heard anything on whether Bush was declared retroactively ineligible? If the penalties are this harsh, then hopefully...
the postseason ban only matters if it doesn't start until the 2011 season. 2010 recruits can't do anything about it now, so it doesn't really hurt USC. and 2011 recruits would only have to live with missing a bowl for one year, which isn't such a big deal, because so few of them would be playing in it anyway. if 2011 recruits knew they would miss two bowls, meaning even if they redshirted, they still couldn't play, that might have a real effect on recruiting.
Well, assuming they can free up scholarships for the 2011 class. The scholarship reductions mean tha either USC takes a tiny class, or that people (Mitch Mustain?) will be booted off the team left and right.
Anyone know if this allows recruits to renege on their LOIs without loss of a redshirt?
Not explicitly, but they can apply for special circumstances.
Come on down
Does a postseason ban mean they could win the Pac10 but not be allowed in the Rose Bowl? If that is the case I am rooting for them to go undefeated.
ESPN is reporting the USC sanctions?
USC is the ESPN cash cow I figured they'd cover this up!
But in all seriousness, Bruce Feldman is legit (unlike some othe espn people who won't be named), so I believe him.
I hope Pete enjoys that maple bar. Looks like that guy in the background is about to go Pvt. Pyle on someone
