US KILLS CANADA
"They are what we are in hockey,..."
i don't know aboot dat, der buddy.
Oh I believe he's right there, buddy.
USA hockey team from 10 years ago, but not today.
Difference is that Canada actually has rivals in Junior hockey, Russia, Sweden... And if we catch Canada on a bad day, the US could easily beat Canada. We almost did it this year if not for John Tavares leading one of the greatest comebacks in WJC history.
I'm not sure there's any country in the world that could beat the US in football*, even on a bad day.
* American football that is.
They used to think that in basketball too...
The training for basketball is definitely not as difficult as the training for football. If there was a world championship of American Football, the U.S. would NEVER lose. EVER
Probably because it is "American" Football, and most of the rest of the world doesn't, unfortunately, give a shit.
"The U.S. roster of incoming college freshmen crushed France and Mexico in the first two rounds by a combined score of 133-0."
I don't know about you guys, but my national pride just swelled three sizes.
I guess, but what other country truly plays "American" football?
Its really only an American phenomenon.
texas... Its a whole different world there and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with them being part of the United States.
Yup I know man, I was being lightheartedly sarcastic. I would be equally affected if our Junior team got wrecked in international Jai-alai.
Not only does nobody else play American football but I think there's a chance the other teams didn't realize they could touch the ball with their hands.
Even Canada doesn't exactly play American football, what with the 110-yard field, three downs and rouges.
While I'm sure the goal of the event is to raise other countries' interest in football, this isn't exactly fair, is it?
"The U.S. roster of incoming college freshmen crushed France and Mexico in the first two rounds by a combined score of 133-0"
... and...
"I can get my 12-year-old sister out there and throw a 5-yard pass."
Probably not too far from the truth...
I believe his comment about the 12-year-old sister wasn't a shot at the quality of defense that the Canadian team possessed but rather the level of athletes he was playing with. He was stating that he was simply throwing 5 yard passes, and the rest was work done by his supporting cast.
Either way, doesn't make much of a difference
USA USA
...do any top recruiting prospects even play in this tourny? It sounds like it's a lot like the world's baseball championships for the US -- most the stars don't show.
I was wondering that too, the david wilson dude is the #4 RB according to rivals, though.
EDIT: upon second look, most of the dudes on that team are pretty middling propects... a few good ones here and there (wilson, chris norman, storm klein, etc.) but mostly 3*s.
"...and led top seed Canada 18-3 lead late in the third quarter."
Is anyone else wondering why on earth Canada was the top seed?
I too was wondering that. I'll have to look into it and report mt findings.
it's because before this game canada was 7-5 against the americans at the u19 level but thats when the americans used to play them with regional (ex:north carolina or something) teams not using their full talent. Since this was the first tournament though they decided to use national talent instead of regional.
Nice to see this, no surprises here
I am so intrigued by who could possibly fill Japan's roster.
sumo's
Probably all a bunch of electron slot guys. Rich Rod should start recruiting japan.
Ninja Football through and through.
Our quarterback had three touchdowns and no incompletions . . . granted it seems that the opposition was horrible but that's still darn impressive.
Obviously the Refs cheated- otherwise Canada would have won it going away.
If they would have bet beer on the game (good beer), it would have been closer.
I can't wait for the World Cup now that we're so dominant at futball!
..Oh wait.. wrong football.
Lui Passaglia must be PISSED.
Is there a tape of this out there? I'd kinda like to see it. I looked at the roster and I haven't heard of any of the guys on the US roster.
I have been wishing my whole life that American football would become a popular international sport but the reality appears that it probably is never going to happen in our lifetimes.
