tOSU Happy Schadenfreude Holidays - Open Thread

Oh, thank you Santa, my Christmas came early this year.

I'll start off with that sanctimonious prick tOSU president Gordon Gee:

How do you like them apples, Buckeyes?

(+1 to anyone who still has an unread Gordon Wood book in their attic).

I woke my daughter up at

I woke my daughter up at 11:30 when I heard it on ESPN that made it sound more like a done deal.  She yelled out, "It IS the happiest time of year" and couldn't sleep for an hour afterward.

I take Gee at his word that the players weren't properly educated.  That's lack of institutional control and fostering an an environment of compliance.  The NCAA should drop the hammer on the school.

She didn't say " everytime a bell rings, a buckeye losses eligibility", but it would have been really cool if she did.

Irony

On ESPN they had Craig James (how's that for kettle/pot?!) discussing the suspensions.  He said that there would be more coming out in the next few days.

As an FYI, Clockgate is on

As an FYI, Clockgate is on BTN.... surprised?  Anyway, in it, they just showed Marquise Walker make a nice play, breaking a tackle for a TD.   I believe it was Bob Griese who added the following interesting quote: "That's the biggest difference in college football today, the CB on the play is a True Freshman, going up against a Senior.  He played HS ball last year, and now he's going up against a senior receiver."

Rambling? Off Topic? Yeah, I don't have much to add to this thread that hasn't already been said, and I'm bored as all hell at home.

Not to mention C Rog's expertise in the clink

I lost track how many times he went to jail. I thought Cato had a minor infraction somewhere in the past, but Charles Rogers definitely leads this debate in jailtime.

The happiest time of the year

The happiest time of the year indeed. Good to see those fucks get what's coming to them.

While I somewhat disagree with how the NCAA handled this -- The whole, "I didn't know the rules" gets them out of further suspensions -- I will take it. I will take it 100 times over. Perhaps a million times over. Fuck them.

It is simply a by product...

of an increasingly entitled generation.  They are kids making poor decisions.

It can happen to any school - it has happened to us.

But thank you Santa for delivering this to tOSU for Christmas this year.

(It's true, there is a Santa Claus)

Merry Christmas to all Wolverines

How come the suspensions are for 2011?

Since when are players eligible for current games but ineligible in future games? Seems a bit selective in the enforcement of penalties, no?

TP is a tool

And would have given us headaches that would not have been offset by enough wins ...
Best line I have seen on him was on MgoBlog on the post about him coming back for his senior season... Poster simply asked "where else was he going to go?"

O$U Tattoo jokes ... keep them flying

Being TP and getting a tattoo seems to go hand in hand these days. I wasn't surprised when TP showed me a symbol on his arm. "Please don't tell the Vest," he begged. "I won't" I promised. "By the way, what does that stand for?" "Honesty," he said. LOL

one question

I was discussing this with a friend last night: would the suspended players be eligible for a redshirt if, instead of playing the remainder of the 2011 schedule, they decide to sit out the entire year after the suspension's lifted?

I would most certainly hope not, but it sounds like a potential loophole waiting to happen.

I don't think any of the 4 starters would want to do that and wait 2 more years to enter the draft.

I've had enough

It's becoming very easy to see through the NCAA's crock of crap that they're running here.  They finally decide to start cleaning up the game with big-time penalties, but the integrity means nothing in the face of big money.  There is zero consistency and if there is a guarantee that there is a lot of money riding on something they won't touch it.

They are just as scandalous as all the cheaters out there by constantly thinking about how to put money in their pockets right now and not concentrating on how to set precidents on how to clean things up in the long run.

I like how ignorance is an

I like how ignorance is an alibi in this case, but misunderstanding whether stretching counts as practice time qualifies as a "major violation."  NCAA is a joke!

Makes me glad there are schools out there like Michigan, willing to take the honorable high road rather than the slippy slimey low road.  That's the only thing that keeps the NCAA a viable governing body.  I'm proud of the way Michigan owned up to their issues.

I hope it's obvious to more than just me, and that the rest of the world takes note how some programs have integrity, and others...maybe not so much.
