Today's Schedule of Games
A Big Ten showdown in Happy Valley, and a lot of subplot games with upset potential this week (Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Kthx).
Here are some highlights:
At Noon on FOX: #2 Ohio State at #13 Penn State. It’s dumb to do the “We beat team [fill in the blank] by more/less than Ohio State did” as a predictor of how we will do against them. Different teams play each other differently. But I’m going to do it anyway as I watch this game. It would be awesome to watch Ohio State struggle with Penn State in areas where Michigan had no problems, and see that maybe Ohio State does not really have it all figured out running the ball and defending the run like they claim. Penn State won’t win, but here is hoping that they can give OSU something to think about and fret over as November 26th looms ever closer.
Also at Noon on ABC: Notre Dame at #16 Syracuse. Any time Notre Dame loses a game, it is good for us. We constantly compete with them for top recruits. Any Notre Dame win is a nauseating media-driven Return To Glory ™, especially with a new coaching regime. Spare me please. So I’ll be rooting hard for a Syracuse win and a Notre Dame loss. Plus Dino Babers seems like a cool guy, and Syracuse deserves a break because they got chumped hard last week by the refs “Ohio State treatment” of Clemson. But . . . the world is not a fair place. This will be an ugly Notre Dame win.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: Florida at #1 Georgia. The "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party". This has typically been a big game nationally, but it’s under the radar this year. Courtesy of Florida. They looked like they had a pulse early in the year, but it was a false dawn. I’ll take a peek at this game for the pageantry of it, but it won’t be much of an actual football game. Georgia wins big.
Also at 3:30 PM on FOX: #9 Oklahoma State at #22 Kansas State. This is a game to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title. This game hinges on whether Adrian Martinez can play, and play 100%. He’s the difference maker (suck it, Scott Frost). If he can go effectively it will be a KSU win. If not, THE OSU will win it. I’ll be optimistic here and go with KSU to win.
Also at 3:30 PM on ABC: #17 Illinois at Nebraska. Nebraska is a quirky team that has some talent (suck it, Scott Frost). They have not put all the pieces together yet, but they are capable of it for a game. I think this will be that game. They will play inspired and focused and take down Big Ten West leader Illinois in an upset. The winner of the Big Ten West could easily have four losses when it is all over. Even Northwestern is not actually out of it. Stupid. Embarrassing. Fun.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #19 Kentucky at #3 Tennessee. Kentucky specializes in these kinds of games where they look like a real ranked team in the middle of the season that looks like they could pull off a big SEC upset. But they seldom do, and by season’s end their attention is turning to basketball. They won’t do it today either, and Tennessee stays on a roll.
At 7:30 PM on ABC: Michigan State at #4 Michigan. If I’m Sparty, I am arm-punting Rocky Lombardi-style on every play and hoping for astonishing catches by Reed (or astonishing pass interference calls against Michigan). On defense I am putting 10 in the box and run blitzing like crazy to take away Harbaugh’s “favorite way to win”. There is a 95% chance they will lose in humiliating fashion doing that, but there is a non-zero chance they can pull off a win. It’s happened before. I hope that Harbaugh is not too stubborn to take what they leave on the table and club them to death with it. Our favorite way to win should be to not let them hang around and think they have a chance.
Also at 7:30 PM on SECN: #15 Ole Miss at Texas A&M. Nobody is talking about this game, but if I'm Ole Miss I am nervous as hell. Texas A&M is erratic to say the least. They lost to App State . . . but then they nearly beat Alabama. You don’t know what team you are going to get week-to-week and that’s why Ole Miss should be nervous. I’m predicting the upset here: Texas A&M in a convincing win.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on ESPN: Stanford at #12 UCLA. This week is a half-off Pac-12 After Dark Special. It’s only meaningless to Stanford. UCLA is trying to stay in the Pac 12 title hunt, and will play like it. Only 200 people will be there to witness it, but UCLA will win and stay alive in the Pac 12.

October 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Ohio State struggling on offense again like last week.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Penn State is making them one-dimensional.
October 29th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
Having great corners helps Penn State against OSU more than it helped them against Michigan. Michigan is built to beat OSU and Penn State.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Holy shit, Penn State dodges a bullet.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
If only PSU had an offense.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
They should go halfsies with Iowa and buy one.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
OSU still looks soft. I think we'll be able to run on them.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
We gonna slap that Buckeye ass, in a world famous fashion.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Nice job PSU. OSU once again trying short throws to use their receivers speed. Field shrinks and they can't get good plays. Where the hell was that kicker kicking that ball. Back to Columbus?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
I was expecting ISU Oklahoma to be the least interesting game of the day by far, I wasn't expecting the Mountaineers vs the Horny Frogs to get interesting, though. Looks like they could give TCU a game today.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Clifford is whining at a receiver because he threw an INT?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
On a ball, that if caught, was well short of the first down.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
JFC. That wouldn’t have been a first down anyway. Awful play calling and worse execution.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Shit. I'd only these teams would stop throwing the ball right to the Buckeyes.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Seriously Penn state?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Clifford with awful reads on 2nd and 3rd down. Play design on 3rd didn't help.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
get Clifford out of the game
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Cliffy, NO!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Damnit get it together Clifford
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Frames Janklin...
Run the fucking ball.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Might as well bring in Allar at this point, Clifford is broken
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
What a surprise. The universe gift wrapping another win for OSU.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Clifford had all day there. That is the best you can do? You didn't see the defender?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Clifford is broken. He's got the Devin Gardner symptom. Just too many hits
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Two early thoughts. PSU is only Western Division good. OSU defensive line can be gashed.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Petras or Clifford.
Discuss.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Can there be a walk on third choice?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Lol how does every team play their worst against OSU? Decent interception but that was such an awful throw after staring down his receiver for a full 5 seconds.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
PSU players are blaming each other already, if you watch the eye balling and verbal exchange... at least on offense
October 29th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Penn State morphing into Iowa before our very eyes
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
He's 5 of 6, so far, except 2 of those completions were to the other team..
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Why do teams give OSU so many turnovers? Their offense can score enough all by itself
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
PSU throwing picks on OSU when the run game is getting chunks...smh
October 29th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Bottles the mind.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
More like Janklins the mind.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
After that it's time to play Allar. Maybe they can actually punt and play D instead of giving the ball away at the 40.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
I guess Clifford is playing is “career game”. Shittiest game of his career.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Ohio State's defense is driving down the field about 10 yards at a time. Winning the Iowa way. How is it possible that Ohio State resembles Iowa???
October 29th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Because Penn State's offensive game plan resembles dog shit.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Hopefully media pundits can get off Clifford’s jock. He’s holding back psu
October 29th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
This is good, though...
hopefully OSU comes into the game thinking the D is fixed after not playing 1 offense all year...specifically one that challenged them to stop the run.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Clifford sucks. Any success he had against Minnesota was more about Minnesota sucking ass.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Harrison is becoming a problem. What they need is another couple of five star wide receiver recruits…oh, wait!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
That wasn't prior to the snap. If they can't get the replay call in early enough, too bad. They shouldn't stop a play that has already started.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
After OSU's first 2 conservative possessions, they all of a sudden start making easy down the field passes for big chunks. I don't understand why they don't just do that all the time, because it looks so easy.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Run to set up the pass?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Not sure why OSU does not start Williams. He is by far the better RB.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
That’s a touchdown
October 29th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
I keep hearing how good PSU’s secondary is, and all I’ve seen today is them getting torched.
Harrison is going to be a problem for us.
