Time for a Mich vs Iowa Open thread
I don't know who noramally does these but I thought it would be a good idea to open a Iowa v Mich thread.

If anyone finds a link that is working can they please post it? I'm stuck in upstate NY on business and don't have BTN.

Iowa basketball always struck me as a poor man's Michigan. They, too, were a pretty strong program (though not quite as good as us) until their coach (Tom Davis) was pushed out in the late '90s, at which point they fell apart and have never fully recovered. They've gone through a few coaches since then and have trouble filling up their home arena (whereas they've never had trouble selling out in football). They've followed the same basic course as us, but they always seem to be just a little worse than we are.

I could be wrong, but didn't they have a few good years under Alford. I recall them winning the big ten tourney sometime during his tenure.
February 19th, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
That was their only tourney appearance under Alford - and they only made it because they won the BTT. Alford was much less successful than Tom Davis. They were an annual tourney team under Davis.

I didn't watch much basketball during the Tom Davis time, but I did look it up and Alford maybe 3 NCAA tourney appearances, and 3 NIT visits. His best year was 05-06 went 25-9 tied for second in the conference and won the conference tourney pretty good year.

While we wait for the game update on CMU and are old friend Trey Zeigler. CMU currently leads Niagara 40-38 halfway through the secong half in an ESPN bracetbuster game not being shown on any ESPN channel... For the year Central sits at 8-17, a major disappointment. Trey is actually having a really decent year but it really doesn't seem like it with the way the team has played and today he's shooting 2-9 from the feild and 1-4 from the line.
February 19th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
I'm sure Zeigler is okay, but I don't think I'd trade Hardaway for him. It's win-win for both schools.

For sure

This is going to be a tough road game for us...gotta beat Iowa to keep the tourny hopes alive.

Anyone with live stream links?
February 19th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
Since when do you not have to type your four digit pin with the card swipe to get into the dorm room, though?
February 19th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
That goes back to at least 2005, probably earlier.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
That always made for an adventure after a night of shenanigans.
February 19th, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
I'm still doing the 4 digit number this year...
February 19th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
This team is growing. They're not very good UNLESS they get to the basket and utilize Morgan. Make good decisions with shot selection, which has been a problem all year. If they do those things and limit second shots, which are all things that require making a conscious decision, they will always be tough to play.

No Doyle = No Butterfly.
This is looking like a good day.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
That dork and Martin on football are at the top of annoying jokes. When will there be an option to just hear crowd noise and no play-by-play guys?
February 19th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Well it's good Stu is starting off well
February 19th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Actually, I'm a little confused with Stu. He was right under the basket to get an offensive rebound, but before it hit, he started sprinting across the court to defend. I may not be the best basketball strategist, but why would he just give up his ground like that. Could have been easy points as the ball landed at the area he vacated.
Michigan looking good so far up 11-4. Morgan getting some good moves going.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
Right? ;-)
February 19th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
Haha awesome falling tip pass to hardaway for 3!
February 19th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Hahahahaha.
Excuse me, but thats poetic justice after a weak blocking foul on the other end. Glad to see our three point shooting is back.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Textbook falling-down-slapping bounce pass and assist from Morris to Hardaway there!
February 19th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
I'd give Morris an assist from his stomach
February 19th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
He punched the ball forward to Hardaway. That counts in my book.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
3 3's already for the Blue. Starting up hot 11-4.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Morgan looking strong on the boards already.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
Jordan Morgan having a great start. Keep it up!

February 19th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
Awesome start, just wish a couple of those 3s would have gone down on wednesday though.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
One more freeking 3. Was 3-for-15 really THAT much to ask?
/General-Bloodymindedness-of-the-Universe rant
February 19th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
I miss the Rotel commercials.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
or getting to the basket. That stuff will ALWAYS work, but the 3-point shooting typically does not. The 3s will always be there, but to make it the first option is bothersome.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Very un-butterfly like assist from Morris there
Good start on the road. Love the intensity

This new university that joined the big ten has a weird name.
Mediacom U? WTF?
February 19th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
I assumed it was their previous coach, Larry Mediacom, whom retired after being so successful that they had to rename the court in his honor.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
Not the best X & O guy.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Zack needs to get a little closer to the 3 line
But our guys are getting smothered, when are we gonna get one of those calls
February 19th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
make a wide-open shot?
February 19th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
Following a nice start, JB goes to his hopeless lineup where Smot plays the 5 and gets abused for 6 straight points in the paint. Am I the only one sitting on my couch thinking that Horford should be in every time Morgan sits? Really infuriating that they keep trotting this hapless line out there every game.
February 19th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
That Morgan is playing well enough that we miss him when he goes out. Didn't think we'd see that this year.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:59 PM ^
I think Novak needs to take a break from shooting the ball for a while.
February 19th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
I was thinking the same but for Stu and Smotrycz.
February 19th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Just pound it in to Morgan untill they stop it plz.
February 19th, 2011 at 5:06 PM ^
Play inside-out!
